If that is Ben Stokes in this video, then he can't play for England again, unless there is exceptional evidence to show this was self defence.
can't play for England again
i'm struggling to muster such outrage myself. not sure why...
certainly silly to be out that late with the potential for such a situation.
will be interesting to see how they handle this, as frankly he's one of the best players in the world. doesn't mean he should be treated any differently... but he will be...

Aussies didn't ban Warner when he thumped Root in a nightclub. I don't really know the circumstances of the Stokes affair though so there may no comparison.
He got a few tests ban from memory.
I see where you're coming from, but he could easily get a stint inside for that, and I'm not sure Strauss and his clan will have back in the England fold if that's the case. They've already shown with the likes of Pietersen that cricketing talent isn't the only thing they take into account when allowing someone to play for England.
Doesn’t look good. He has to be big enough to walk away, even if he’s provoked or has been verbally abused. Known faces from sport etc are easy targets by the ****wits that frequent these bars.
Going to be tough getting out of this one. Unless the person hit drops all charges. Stokes may still get a ban and could miss Australia because of it. If he’s convicted, does Australia allow those with a criminal record into the country?!
It certainly used to.![]()

I’m not talking about your relatives mate in the 1700/1800’s. The street urchins that were sent to the colonies. I’m talking about now you fool!![]()

Fair play to him for standing up for his mate if the 2 others started this. There was perhaps a moment when he could have walked away but why not teach a pair of cowards resorting to using dangerous weapons a lesson? Can't blame him for making sure they weren't a continued threat if that pair had been the instigators, why take the chance on walking away if they are likely to attack him from behind or something? At least he didn't pick the bottle up and use it.
So will their punishment be
Miss the meaningless One Day Match v West Indies on Friday ???
The Trouble for Stokes is that Strauss (unlike Vaughan) has a very Old School Approach to
Everything
Including Discipline
Agree 100%. Presumably, though, Stokes's eventual punishment will be a lot heavier than that of Hales if, as it would appear, he was not directly involved in any fighting. And rightly so in my opinion. These players are representing the country which puts them firmly in the public eye as role models to youngsters. Getting into drunken fights is not acceptable and would be sufficient to get most people fired from "normal" jobs and it should be no different for international cricketers/footballers etc.

Why don't we wait until we hear the full story before we condemn him.
Stories ranging from defending his mate to sticking up for two gay friends who had been harassed. It may all be BS but give the bloke a chance
They are, he’s suspended on full pay. The video evidence doesn’t help his cause though. What preceded this punch up is just mitigating evidence. I’m sure the ECB won’t come to a rash decision and will wait for all the evidence before deciding his cricketing future. The Police may now proceed with the ABH though and he could be facing time. If it was joe public, they would be.
Oh dear, now footage has emerged of Ben Stokes imitating Katie Price's son Harvey. Not good Mr Stokes, not sure any one can defend that behaviour.
I think the video tells a story. If you are acting in self defence you surely don't play the aggressor role that the video seems to show Stokes doing. Out at 2am mid series, knocking the crap out of someone and now taking the piss out of a poor disabled kid. Maybe he's just not a very nice chap.WP not arguing and like usual you're the voice of reason unlike a few others on this thread. if he's guilty and without mitigation he's in trouble but I'd rather wait to hear the full story.

I find "mocking disabled son" a rather dramatic way of describing that part. I'm sure plenty of people won't agree with me on this but no change there then......
Personally I think it's like if someone's young daughter said "hello you ****" to one of you in a group of lads.....you'd all probably piss yourselves laughing (and also wonder what on earth was going on with the parenting such that they know the word and are repeating it).
Hell, people even sell friggin T-Shirts with the phrase on (directly related to this)! Which doesn't make it OK but I'd question if a T-Shirt directly mocking a disabled child would sell anything.
It's not really the word people are laughing at, it's simply a child saying it that makes people laugh, which due to the disability he is effectively like in some ways. In the same way you'd not be laughing at a child who said the same phrase I don't think he's mocking Harvey as such.
Maybe but we don't know the full story. I've never met him or anyone who has and he could be a creep. A high profile International sportsman out out late getting involved in ag isn't to be admired but that video doesn't necessarily tell the whole story as we don't know what was said or happened before?

Don't think the video of the assault comes across well though, initially it could be explained as self defence but Stokes continued to throw punches even as they were trying to get away.
You may be right, but should an international sportsman really be filming himself doing this? It's a bloody unintelligent thing to do, if not cruel.
