Ben Stokes
So victims get charged as well??
If 2 people have a fight, who's the victim and who's the suspect? Affray usually involves charges against more than one person.
So victims get charged as well??
I am struggling why are the blokes Stokes had the altercation with standing in the dock next to him??
Are they not the victims?
If they have all been charged for being part of the fight would the best outcome have not been shake hands and move along?
Agreed. Seems a bit much to describe it as a "pisshead incident" when one of the protagonists is beaten unconscious. The CCTV of Stokes knocking out cold the 2 other defendants is pretty damning!
If this wasn't a case involving a well known sportsman I hope the police would treat it the same as they have here
Stolen from Twitter but do you think when they are watching the footage of the Stokes fight they say 'can you just rock and roll that' ?

How the f*ck do some of these court artists keep getting paid.
You'd think that was a deformed old man not a young athlete looking at that picture.

It's a pretty tough job. They can't draw in court. They have to draw outside and dash in and out remembering what they saw....
Or in this case they could look at a picture of Ben Stokes and draw that?
On a wider point why are court drawings actually needed?
In this case I would agree! Then colour-in his clothing...

Exactly. If ever there was a chance to get a drawing looking half decent this was the opportunity.
Going back to Rebus' point, it does seem a bit odd that the police cam footage has been released and I don't actually see why there would be a need to release it to the media What I would say though is that it probably helps Stokes as he doesn't come across as drunk/aggessive.

Presumably strategy by his team. It’s summing up day yet the 2 gay guys and Hales not called as witnesses for defence. Which seems odd to me.
Found not guilty![]()
Believe that the ECB will be considering disciplinary action now that the case is over. So doubt we will be seeing him at Trent Bridge
I think missing an entire overseas tour is punishment enough.
The one thing I can’t work out in this case is why three key witnesses Hales and the two gay guys were not brought to give evidence.
I honestly believe Stokes is a very lucky lucky man. Literally everyone I spoke to at Lords last week thought he was a goner. However, my judgement is based solely on what was reported in the press and the evidence I have seen.
One can only trust the jury have made the correct decision but with here Key witnesses not appearing did they have the full evidence.
He missed it because he was under police investigations. No charge has ever been brought against him for drinking a 2am whilst on international duty with England.
Make the punishment retrospective and its job done then.
Can only assume that neither defence or prosecution felt comfortable with using gay guys and it’s their non appearance for either side that helped the most to find not guilty two both men
It’s for the ECB to decide the next steps. You can’t have international players of any country whilst on duty getting into brawls at 2am. Sadly there appears to be a drinking culture within this England set up as evident during the ashes.
