Centre Backs??

Tarky is the one who could play at the next level. Give him a chance to get back to form, long break out. Our passing style needs a player of his quality.

Very strong for his age.

Personally I would stick with Dean and Tarky.

100% agree on all your points :sorted:

Centre Backs??

Or a 5th - Bring back Alfie?

"The classiest CB I have seen at Lg1/2 level. Brentford must be blessed if they can allow him to stay. The comparisons with Bobby Moore mentioned are a bit OTT but can see why. Steven Taylor was the best CB I have seen on loan at Adams Park but reckon Mawson is better , just hope he keeps progressing whether with us, Brentford or higher."

That's interesting. Is he left or right sided?

Centre Backs??

Mistakes galore, yesterday, but they got away with it. Cheers, Matt Derbyshire, you really are rather poor.

Very pleased they kept a clean sheet. Hopefully that will give them more confidence, and better performances will follow. :hat:

I had a quick look on there, they are absolutely raving about him! Lots of compliments for Pierre as well, mind you Alan Bennett looked good in L2! ;)

I wrote just before Xmas that i bumped into a Wycombe fan at a work meeting and he was literally raving about Alfie Mawson and how he was the best 'footballing' centre back he had seen. Even went onto say he would one day will play for England.

Agree - Tarky looks like he can step up just needs the experience! Short term could be the occassional pain but long term we will benefit massively.

I'd like us to sign a very experienced premiership quality centre back to play with Tarky and/or Dean...so that they can both develop!

Centre Backs??

the poll so far doesn't move us very far forward does it...

Centre Backs??

Well its safe to say the Dean and JT partnership is working well and been very solid in the last 3-4 weeks.

So, who do you suggest? A seasoned premiership player who wants to stay in the premiership, a Rio Ferdinand type for 60K per week, a young player just making his name in the game who will be wanted by his current club and doesn't want to drop a division or an unknown sitting in the reserves?

Personally the only one that would interest me is the young player but who knows if he is better than what we have so what is the point, surely to keep looking at the players we are is the best policy. It is widely regarded that the bottom 5 of the prem is not a huge difference to the top 5 of the championship so the sort of players that would still be way above our price structure are not likely to be any good.

Centre Backs??

Nobody has mentioned the CBs at Norwich, I felt that one of them wasn't up to scratch but upset people if I talk about them, the pair that "can't play" together are looking better but I felt Norwich's get out of jail card was going at one of them, it was too good a win to be picky but I am really interested in what others saw. Sorry if I have offended anyone.

Centre Backs??

One of them did make more errors than the other, particularly heading...

Definitely not a Rio Ferdinand type...as haven't rated him for about 4 years now! Am just suggesting a leader with a higher level of experience

I watched on live stream, so not a fair comparison, but nor sure which one you are atalking about, assume Tarks. From what I saw Dean was solid again.

In terms of their strategy it looked to me that Norwich targeted our right channel (Moses). As soon as they won the ball in their own half, they played a long diagonal ball to our right side without even looking. Moses had it largely sown up, though there were some very tight offside decisions

They targeted our left, feeding the ball to Redmond to run at Jake. Because Norwich played Lafferty - their number 9 - on their left, Moses had a free rein as he just didn't track back. It did mean that he was often in acres of space - hence the diagonal ball - but Moses generally was quick enough to get back or Dean covered across.

Centre Backs??

Bullet proof as far as I'm concerned 3 wins on the trot 1 goal conceded.Hope the present pairing continue to improve as they are both young with there best days ahead.Im a big fan of Tony Craig and would like to think him being on the bench keeps them both focused.

Centre Backs??

Tarky is class .. But can def be frustrating at times.

Really lazy piece of control in the second half which led to them getting a corner rather then us keeping the pressure on ..

He needs to concentrate for the full 90 ..

Harlee is the more solid of two & equally as good on the ball IMO.

I agree with this but Harlee was guilty of this last season and I believe it's all part of the learning curve for this duo. When we look at the other combo's in the Championship we are not looking too unhealthy at the moment and plus I wouldn't rush to swap any of our three centre backs even though I have been a bit harsh on them at times!

Centre Backs??

If the great unwashed that are the GPG can't decide on our best pairing then MW deserves much credit for juggling 3 into 2 all season...

FWIW I think we need to look at the back 5 as a unit including Button, Bidwell and Moses to judge them fairly and so far this season they have done pretty well considering we are by nature a team that likes to attack and also play out from the back...

Centre Backs??

What about Daniel O'Shaughnessy the Finnish lad in the development squad, any news?

Centre Backs??

Thought it said a lot about Warburtons man management skills that he singled out Craig in his post match interview for his enthusiasm and commitment whilst not playing

The future is Harler and Tarky but they are both aware that Craig is lurking in the background, in the meantime they are learning to play as a partnership, there will be mistakes as both are young but with Craig and Weir helping their development the future looks pretty good

Centre Backs??

IMO we are solid in the CB position now. Main danger to us comes out wide with balls into the space behind the full backs or runners down each flank.

Centre Backs??

I'm really pleased Dean and Tarkowski seem to be working well as a centre-back partnership. While I love Craig, Dean and Tarky are the future, and it seemed crazy to have one of them on the bench.

My worry with Dean, however, is that he's a confidence player. That can be okay for a striker - I would describe Gray as one, for example - but it's not really what you want for a centre-back. For me, the most important attribute in a defender is complete consistency. Dean goes through spells where he's utterly unplayable: he was magnificent at Millwall and against Wolves and Blackburn, but has also had some complete stinkers this season (Dagenham and Ipswich).

He's crucial to how we play, and it's a thrill to see him bring the ball out of defence, no more so than for his equaliser against Fulham. He's a huge character and is great for team spirit. He loves Brentford. But it would be nice to see him cut out some of his mistakes. Yes, I know 'mistakes are inevitable' with how we play, but I don't see Tarkowski messing up as much.

So while I'm currently feeling very warm towards Dean, I'm still wary that a bad run may be around the corner. He's the obvious pick for our next captain, but he's got to become more consistent first.

So did I until Hudders and Wolves away with a bit of Ipswich thrown in, maybe that was just a really bad patch but we looked all at sea for a few games.

Most important consideration is Tarks and Dean COULD develop into Premier League CBs. Can't say the same of Craig. For that reason alone, should keep them in the team...

Sorry to say it, but that's poppycock. I'd like to believe that we don't base our team selection on what might possibly happen, some time in the future.

My son COULD develop into a Premier League CB. Should he start in place of Tarky or Dean?

Tarks ( :yuck: ) and Dean COULD develop into minotaurs. Worth considering. :thetruth:

Didn't see any of those mate. IMO most CB pairings I've seen against us have been pretty slow and from what I've seen ours don't trouble me now.

Centre Backs??

We've given up two goals in 4 league matches in January and people are complaining about our defense. Amazing.

Totally agree with what you are saying, but it does seem to be when Dean makes a mistake, it tends to result in a goal.

Centre Backs??

Because the club and teammates trusts him.

I don't think it is 'Amazing' at all. We have the worst defensive record of those teams challenging for a play off space and two clean sheets against teams near the bottom does't really mask that. Don't get me wrong: Harlee, Tarks and Craig all have their strengths, but it is at CB that we have been found out most this year, and it could yet cost us a play off place.

Centre Backs??

I'm loving this season but there is a sense of what might have been if we consider just how goals we've gifted the oppo this term?

If we scored some of the clear chances in some games we would have gained more points.

That's the thing which concerns me more. We came close a couple of times today and there would have been less questioning of Dean if Dallas’s efforts hadn't been inches the wrong way, or if Gray had been more effective. And Dean also played a good part in this not being another 4-0 defeat. It's a tough decision and would be very tough on Dean, I'm glad I don't have to make it.

Agree, we're 5th and yet I reckon we've been a bit wasteful in front of goal and gifted more than a handful the other end.
Great isn't it that we're annoyed we just narrowly lost to a top side?

Yep. We are letting in goals, which we shouldn't be, and not scoring, when we should. It's a tough division, only a couple have played at this standard before, we know you get punished for errors, but we aren't punishing teams when we should be.

Another tough decision on Saturday for Warburton. Keep the two together, Tarky and Dean? Or change it to Craig and Tarky? I'm glad I'm not choosing!

Agree, At this standard you don't take chances and you inevitably get punished. We probably should be celebrating another excellent overall performance against a top side like the one vs Derby but we didn't convert chances.

I'd be inclined to leave Harlee and Tarks together as error aside both did a really good job and won their battles against top class strikers.

Defender and keepers make mistake and they are costly, but today we were crying out for a forward on the bench to come on and change things as Andre was very poor today. We need somebody on Monday.

Just for once could you let us know a name for a forward that you might think would be a good target to consider. Personally I might try Akpom again, scoring loads at U-21 level and is big strong and quick.

Chris Wood Leicester please !
