I think you're double, if not treble-counting some of the same money. Let's assume the salary is £75k pa (your figure), and look approx Jul 06 to Jun 07. Leroy did about 5 months and may have got a 3 month pay-off (I don't know, but that seems to have been the assumption here) - 8 months = £50k. Fitz will do about 7 months, which comes to about £44k - total about £94k. If Leroy got a 6-month pay-off, add another £19k, but it's still well short of £175k. And we wouldn't have got candidates like Adams or Parkinson in the summer as they were in well-paid jobs then
Whatever, but I'm fed up of hearing that we aren't a big enough catch and can't afford to appoint a decent manager and we can't attract any quality players as they don't want to play for us.
Its not as simple as that - scrimping on the Manager has proved to be a false economy and having made the mistake once, we then went and repeated it. It will end up costing us more in the long run than having got someone in with a better track record who would have cost more.
At the end of the day the whole thing boils down to the fact that we haven't got a pot to piss in and we can't go on for the next 5 years like that until Lionel Rd comes to fruition (if it ever does).
It isn't working (and by "IT" I mean the whole model we are owned and managed under) and maybe the penny for some will only finally drop when they read on Sky Sports that we are mathematically down. Football is a rich mans plaything in this country. It is sad that it is the case but the vast sums of money coming into the game for TV at the highest level make the stakes big and the knock on effect is felt all the way down the leagues. None of the various clubs who have tried fan ownership have succeeded at it and we are the latest who have failed - we just haven't admitted it yet, even to ourselves. You will be able to verify that by the replies to this shortly from BU people (along the "where is this billionaire coming from then" theme).
I for one won't be calling for Scott F to stay in the post after this season and I am baffled by the logic of those who think he has the qualifications, contacts and the experience to get us out of League 2. There is one way he will take us out of League 2 though but let's not risk that eh.
In the meantime, Yeovil is a game we MUST MUST win. How many of you have checked the table recently.
Yeovil v Brentford
Millwall v Rotherham
Orient v Blackpool
Bournemouth v Huddersfield
If 2 of the other 3 are home wins and we lose then we have to make up 10 points in 17 games having also played 1 or 2 games more.
The game is up at that stage and we may as well send all our loanees back and save the money.
So how many of you really think that getting a striker in today isn't vital !! Next week could be too late. If the recovery doesn't start tomorrow it doesn't start at all.
Today we probably have about a 10-15% chance of staying up. By tomorrow, it could be 1%.
With a striker not having been acquired in the first 17 days of the transfer window , the Fighting Chance money has been well and truly wasted. Those of you think time is on our side and we can leisurely pick one up on the 31st of Jan are the ones who are deluded.
