David Raya

David Raya will be number one where ever he goes. The club will take account of all factors, however, PG will not allow DR’s value to diminish. DR clearly is reluctant to sign a contract as offered. His replacement has been signed. Next summer his value could be worth less than this summer, although heroics at the forthcoming WC could affect that hypothesis. With a health warning the yellow one states that he will not leave this summer. Big clubs throughout Europe will be watching the situation closely. Thomas Frank will not wish anything to disrupt, even in the slightest, the workings of the squad.
These then are the issues as I see things.
He’s likely to be 3rd choice at the World Cup. Can’t see his value shooting up that much?

David Raya

I reckon DR wants a big wage hike to reflect his importance to the team. Doubling his wage, or even more, potentially. And probably the club have come in with a lower offer. He knows that if he goes to a big English club, he can get a lot more money, but there aren't many of those opportunities.

I agree with the general thoughts that it's only really United or Spurs when Conte crashes and burns. Or PSG, who knows.

He could go for a LOT of money when he leaves. Actually, we could be set to make an absolute fortune on the transfer market in the next couple of seasons unless we qualify for Europe. And why they hell not. Yes, there's a lot of competition now, with the top 6 plus Newcastle, WHU, and Leicester, but can you honestly say that we're considerably weaker in our first XI?

I think if we show we're gaining traction, DR will sign. Maybe then we'd sell Strak. Hedging our bets with these 2.

Rayas not long had a huge wage hike and contract extension

You may be over-thinking all of this!

David Raya

But then he had a huge season in the PL and gained an international cap...

I'm sure all of that was taken Into consideration when we improved his contract to keep him from moving to arsenal

Imo we’ve seen players leave with a year left on their contract like yves Bissouma and nick pope with varying fees but him staying another year is potentially worth £150m so I’d keep him till next summer

David Raya

I don't see Raya angling for a move yet as he's nailed on number 1 here go anywhere else and that may not be the case and if that happens he's got no hope for the WC squad
No one will pay our valuation, and then having paid that amount sit him on a Bench, and neither will he move to such a club unless perhaps Real Madrid.

Staying in the league we saw what a mess it was when he was out last season with those 2 clowns we had in goal
Why is that relevant in this discussion? Injuries should always be factored in, last seasons difficulties were in the main caused because Raya did not have a quality deputy, not because he was injured. We now have two keepers who are quality. I have not watched this new Keeper only going on his CV,

Heard on the radio this morning:
On a day at the office declared as a "Bring your child to the office" day, dad could see that his young daughter wasn't happy, so he asked her what was wrong.
"I'm upset because I haven't seen any of those clowns that you so often talk about at work" came the considered response.

For perspective, Chelsea bought Kepa Arrizabalaga for €80m.

He was Spain’s 2nd / 3rd choice GK at the time and played for Athletic Bilbao who finished 16th in LaLiga.

That should put into perspective the kind of money it would take for us to part with Raya, particularly when he has more than one year left on his deal.

David Raya

Raya has two years left on his contract, yes? The First Team summary form shows an expiry date of 2024.

If he’s not going to sign a new one, then he should be sold in January 2023. If he doesn’t go then, he can see his contract out and go for nothing in June 2024, even a sign a pre contract in Jan 2024.

2 years left means Brentford has to react. Either stay and sign or sell.

As early as Jan23? OK, i would have thought to sell him (if necessary) next summer, so at least we get the benefit of him for all of next season. But ok, if it's the Brentford way, it does seem to work!

Jan 23 will maximise the fee if there's a club anywhere in Europe (but particularly in England or Spain) that's got a serious need for a top quality 'keeper.

Kepa fee is slightly misleading though as Bilbao didn't want to sell (they never do with their prized young players) so the only way Chelsea could get him was to pay his buyout clause which is why the fee was so high. Little to do with the actual player valuation. Most experts at the time felt Chelsea paid too much especially when 6 months earlier his buyout was under £10m so I wouldn't use that fee as any kind of indication of what we should be wanting for Raya.

David Raya

Barring emergencies elite goalkeepers rarely get bought or sold in January. Unless things change contractually he should be here all season.

David Raya

You’d imagine that Courtois and Oblak are established at the Madrid clubs for the next few years and that he would not want Barcelona as an Espanyol fan who opposes Catalonian independence (I think). Not sure if Sevilla or someone would be able to stump up enough cash?

David Raya

No top club in the premier league need a goalkeeper at the moment, unless he wants to go and sit on the bench. If he wants to leave maybe there will be offers from Spain? One more year here you’d think would make sense

The financial dominance of the PL is such that the market for our most prized assets outside England is now probably restricted to fewer than 10 clubs; Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG certainly, plus arguably, Atletico Madrid, two or three in Serie A and Bayern Munich.

Its a long way from being Gillingham's feeder club.

Could this be bad news for us? Schmeichel off to nice?

They can’t afford him to start with, and David is probably more ambitious than a team that finished just 6 points ahead of us, and have made 0 signings this summer

David Raya

Looks like Raya is open to a transfer according to this

Looks like someone simply asked if he'd ever go back to Spain.

David Raya

I don't think Lazio's starting keeper would have to come to Brentford unless he and the Club were pretty sure Raya was off (maybe in Jan?) ...
