Spurs would be mad not to get him
It would be the logical move I agree, but if they are anything like Chelsea I think they would rather spend twice as much on a lesser player just to appease supporters. I just get the impression that supporters of the big 6 or 7 would be so underwhelmed with the signing of Raya from little old Brentford, and therein that is where we are different, we just go for the best players based on several key supporting factors, irregardless of who they play for. That is why I think if he does go it will be back to Spain as they know how good he is.

Once it becomes obvious that a player is set on leaving then I just want them out of the door. We have had enough instances of this in the past, Hogan a classic case. Really rate him as a keeper but time to move on.

As long as it focuses him on keeping on performing while he’s with us I’m fine with him moving on and earning us a big wedge. Ditto Ivan.

You're not far out on this one, Appeasing supporters of "big" clubs (I hate that word) seems to be the thing, Although saying that, a lot of these so called clubs fans forums appear to like the idea of him joining them, We will just have to wait and see.

I’ve often been surprised on looking at big club messageboards how many have fans who are quite clued up and respectful of us, particularly compared with the time it took to get that in the Championship. The youtubers going for angry clicks and dinosaurs like Crooks sometimes obscure this and maybe some of the clubs only see those sorts of comments as representative but the better run ones won’t be just trying to buy a name. If say Man U need a De Gea replacement it won’t be lost on ETH who took his place in the Spain WC squad.

Honestly you wonder where sky get these “pundits” from sometimes…..just mentioned about Chelsea and Man scum being interested and the comment was “I don’t know Brentford haven’t sorted out his contract situation…..’ wtf!!!
Just wondering if the guy thinks the player doesn’t need to sign anything in this digital world…..?

I can see whoever signs Raya might also sign/ already have another top keeper. Signing him for say £30m and giving him £100 k a week doesn't mean he will be number one keeper, far from it, these clubs just collect top players. I agree with the little old Brentford comment, one mistake and they will be on his back about not being good enough for a top club.

I’d much rather hold on to him until we are as sure as we can be that we have a quality replacement (and please don’t churn out “184 games for Lazio…”) - remember what happened when he was out of action last season

Yep we didn't have 184 games for Lazio available as a replacement.

It's obvious Man Utd don't want or probably don't have the money to continue paying De Gea 300+K a week on a new contract. Time is not on their side, they could let him move on this summer or activate a last year on current contract which is more likely.

We all know Raya would be good enough to challenge De Gea's position as number one and would be a significantly cheaper option; having a high performing GK at the club makes it more difficult for De Gea to demand the same money and would make it easier for Man Utd to stand firm, even if that means ultimately cashing in on De Gea. It's why I think if Raya does move on it'll be Man Utd he'll move to as GK is an area they need to find a top GK on a relative budget by their standards.

I wonder if Eriksen will have a word in both Ten Haag and David's ears. It always helps if another player recommends either another player or a club to join.

I think it would pain me to see him in a Utd shirt, but I'd say out of Chelsea or Spurs, they do probably offer a more consistent opportunity to challenge at the top. Provided Ten Haag continues to get support.

I'd imagine it would form part of the research but I think scouting systems these days go into a lot of detail; but having Eriksen there wouldn't do any harm.

As for Raya he lived in the North West moving through the ranks at Blackburn so probably understands a lot about Man Utd and what they bring to the area already.

Football Transfers have moving from Sheffield to Arsenal 20 Aug 2021 for €28m as do a few other sites ?‍♂️?‍♂️
Aye, I thought he was just over 20 million pounds.

30 million for Raya is good buisness, he's done us a fantastic turn, he deserves to play at the very top level and to get the money that comes with that.

David Raya

If we were to finish top half I wouldn’t be surprised if all three were here for start of next season.
Was thinking the same way. Unless it’s for a crazy wage increase why would anyone want to leave for a club finishing below us. Why move out of London to some northern s***hole.

David Raya

Seems cheap to me - was thinking 20-25 million starting price myself....

25 is the minimum I would have thought. I know he only has a year left on his contract but that is the only thing deflating his price. Without it I would say he is easily worth 30.

Fortunately, we can have full trust in the people at the club who have to make such decisions! :)

David Raya

without scrolling around what did he cost when we signed him??
Undisclosed of course ;)

But estimates are around £3-4m with adds, probably towards the upper end. There may also be a sell-on clause with Blackburn. Who knows for certain...

I'd be very surprised if the Blades sold him for only £8m more than they bought him for in the previous summer btw (profit being less when you factor in the Muff sell-on).

To be fair, Manchester is a great city, it's just full of Mancs letting it down!

Think of the absolute mansion David could treat himself and the family to up there, compared to probably a 2 bed flat of the same value in London! ?

He could probably buy most of Blackpool – the North West's benefit town, although they're trying to demolish most of it and build an education campus there, so decent medium-term property speculation.

David Raya

....as much as I dislike them....I hope DR gets Man U as an option....and chooses them....they would be his best option if he wants to win things... domestically and in Europe....over the next few years.

Although... while only having a year on his contract may be pushing Raya's price down, you'd think that having a few clubs bidding should push it back up to near to what we know Raya is worth?

We wouldn't even be thinking of selling if he wasn't entering the final year of his contract. That's the reason he's available. So you'd assume if any of the big boys can really imagine Raya as their #1 for the next 6-7 seasons, they'll stump up what he's worth and get the deal done rather than finding themselves in some bargain auction.

Much as some here did over Strakosha’s error v WH!

David Raya

As we edge close to the end of season, should we expect Strakosha to start more games? Give him chance to show what he’s about before the break?

Provably depends a lot on our league position i guess. But if we are firmly ensconced in mid table

Yeah I'd expect if we're firmly clear of the drop but Europa looks impossible we'd prioritised preparing the new number one over keeping David fresh for someone else. Though there's his transfer price to think of, we couldn't have it look as though he'd really fallen behind Thomas in the pecking order

Agree. Kane has been "leaving" Spurs for 4 or 5 seasons and banging in the goals every week.

David Raya

When every place is worth a few million, I'd hope we'd field our strongest side for as long as required to maximise income.

(164 games for Lazio in Serie A. Or 208 in total. I'll get me coat.)

Interesting interview with Raya about his history including with Bees, now on Sky PL
402 channel!

David Raya

Fascinating interview with David Raya tonight - lots of good things said about us, and filmed in one of the lounges since the Bournemouth game.

One of the things he said was how much he appreciates us fans, which in turn makes him want to do something special for us in a match.

plus, it would be good for Brentford to play in Europe, possibly v a Spanish club!

Apologies, as this interview looks like it was earlier this week, but I only saw it tonight!

David Raya

Wow! Can’t believe he is having to make so many saves from outside the box. Does that mean teams are having to shoot from distance so much because our defence is so compact?
Yes. I think we’re also right up near the top for blocked shots too. It’s the flip side of our attacking evolution from Maupay’s first season to our promotion season where we moved our average shot position from being outside the penalty area to being inside the six yard box. Now we’re pushing the average shot faced position out too.

Maybe it’s why in the FA Cup game v West Ham Strakosha was caught out partly (not wholly as he did also set up wrong to make the dive) as not as used to the strategy from regular games playing it and the defenders not closing Benrahma down as much as they might because set up to invite low chance ranged strikes rather than try passes to more advanced players with a higher chance shot available.

We are trying to reduce opponents to low-quality chances.

That means, hopefully, shots coming from distance and/or at wide angles.

Shots in the box are hopefully either being prevented or blocked before they reach Raya as much as possible.
