Deon who?

Last night we created so many chances with pace, power, energy and skill. We had two superb forwards on the pitch with DJ on the bench.
We had nobody controlling the ball up front and sticking their backside out allowing the opposition to get into position and finally squaring it to Framps for an aimless cross into the box. :nono: We had runners from everywhere with balls into corners and behind defences, Deon had no legs so this was never an option.
The great control of the football is over and now we have some decent goal scoring ability instead. Owusu did more in that 2nd half in terms of effort than DB did all season plus he set up two goals and could have set up many more. Such a shame he couldn't reopen his Bees account. :(
Afetr IR's superb 1st goal all the Bees lads were celebrating by the far post, me being old and slow ;) only made it to the near post where a certain LO was celebrating alone looking at me with real fire in his eyes giving it large. The man is Bees thru and thru and a much better player than the goalscorer with pace that left us. :owusu: :owusu: :owusu: :owusu:

I posted someting similar yesterday. Deon controlled the football but didn't hurt the defence. Owusu's muscle causes far more problems and Rankin or DJ can live off the scraps.

Who said that MA doesn't know anything about tactics? Deon going was a tough decision to make but could be another masterstroke by the management team.

It looks like MA knows a wee bit more about players like Rankin and Hutch than we humble folk as well.

So have I and whatever happens I've had one game last night that had more thrills, spills and bellypills than anything that Deon served up last year. :sorted:

When you works as many hours as I do my bosses have no problems with me 'nicking off work' as you so eloquently phrase it... :D :D

Deon was great, we look like we might do ok without him. Well done Martin for that, but i have nothing but respect for Deon he gave us his all and never let himself down at Brentford.

Was he in the away end Aberdeen?

I'll never forget the goal he scored just before half-time against Sheffield Wednesday at home.

Thanks for the memories Mr Burton! :afro: :sorted:

On his return with rotherham I imagine he'll get a good reception from a fair few of the fans including me before the game starts then once the game starts so will the abuse and then he'll score a hat trick just like Constantine, :nono: :afro:

To right, he was a vital member of a team that got us (against the odds)to the semi finals of this division's play offs. That made it one of the top 6 seasons' or so over the last 40 years!!!

But Wednesday display was as good a performance as I can remember, no holding the ball up and going nowhere with Deon at the head of a 4-5-1.

Other websites hold a thread showing how many :owusu: scores against Deon's goals. All I know is that this is poo, as we have scored 7 goals in 4 games and only let in 2, so basically we are scoring more and letting in less. We are attacking from all angles and looking 200% more dangerous everytime we go forward. This football knocks the sh!t out of the stuff we witnessed last season. :sorted: We had the ball behind the defenders loads of times yesterday and although it didn't create loads of chances all this turning defenders will produce chances and goals in time. None of these clogging big defenders like being pulled out wide and basically last year they could stand in the centre, be strong and snuff us out.
Personally I think :owusu: has been crucial to this as his all action style hasn't slowed it all down to a frustrating snail pace nothing. We actually scare teams this year and if we can reproduce Chesterfield at a few away grounds we won't go far wrong.
:owusu: needs a goal but he is giving us something in the meantime.

:imwith: and I can't wait for his 1st home goal cos the place is going to goal mental. :bound: :owusu:

The difference this season is in MA's attitude and also the introduction of Brooker and a marked improvement in Tabby, would have loved to see Burton playing up front with :owusu: , think we would have stormed the division, but there you go!

Agreed, but must not look back only forward!

he has scored half as many goals in last 2 games that he managed for us all season. All his goals were quality yesterday and I bet he scores against us like he did in play offs.

Time to move on but there is no need to slag a player who was pure quality when he was here and did not want to leave although finishing sometimes a bit poor. If our other players could hit the target last year he would end have ended up with 40 assists.

I have no hard feelings against him and think if we could have afforded him he would have been a class act with lloyd and dj this season!

The answer though is the way Rotheram are playing football, a passing game to feet instead of high octane hoofing which is the preferred option at Brentford, I know which i prefer and it isnt ours!!!!

How many times have you seen Rotherham play this season?

I think it's more likely that he's playing alongside someone else which he didn't do for most of last season.

Deon who?

No admit i have not seen them however have a friend who has seen them 3 times, his view is they play passing football to feet on the deck, maybe he is biased maybe he is honest however playing the way we play even with Lloyd or DJ i still cannot see hime having the same goal/game ratio for us

Probably none. Or was that sarcastic? Surely not, there's not a lot of that on here is there.

It seems to be the same with many players in the last few years. Leon Constantine to name one. The only explanation can be our playing style. It doesn't seem to invite 20+ goal scorers. For instance, Lloyd Owusu is a proven goalscorer at the old Brentford and recently Reading, but on his return, he has netted just one goal in 5 games, and hasnt really come close to many others. Yet we've still scored 9 goals in 5 games, which is great! Whether it be the hoofing or something else, there has to be something in our playing style that does not suit strikers (scoring-wise).

I think he's playing alongside Butler or Procter which would surely be better for his game.

He was forced into a target man role last year which IMHO he did well but limited his opportunities further forward.
Playing off another forward will suit him better.

He missed a lot of chances for Brentford last year and could have had 25 goals even with our style of play.

Deon who?

Don't think he could have had 25 to be fair... I thought that a lot of the chances he missed last season he'd created himself. He missed a few sitters, but given the level of service he was getting, that's fair enough for me. Thought he was excellent for us, and good luck to him at Rotherham. Great to see him scoring some goals (as long as it's not against us)...
