Do We Need Another Forward??

People kept saying we needed another forward last year but we never got one, MW thought differently. I am not sure that MW thinks we need one now, he plays one up top and his has 3 in the squad who are feet plus TS who is supposed to be a bit of a forward too.

Not necessarily my opinion but if MW thought we were that desperate for one we would have had a loan in by now.

I suspect that may have been the case but believe we are looking - it's availability as everybody else finding goals hard to come by just as busy looking to source proven, quality strikers.

I would be very surprised if the club do not mahe a move for a forward.& I would not be surprised one bit if Trotta was not at the club next week. I know many bees fans do not want him here, but if nothing id done about a forward we will hover around the bottom six. we are not scoring goals, and we do not look like scoring, this division is tough. We all knew it would be. I only speak as someone that has seen our home games. For me now some of our players are looking tired, we have took a risk, we need to have other playing options, especially our forward line. Goals win games we are struggling, and imo if we do nothing about it we will be fighting relegation. We are more than good enough for this division but we lack a vital ingredient. Harsh for many of you on here, but true imo.

Reminds me off a young guy , called Devonshire, who I believe started his illustrious career at Southall, not five miles down the road.

Why do we miss these talents ? Debate..........

Gray has come from non league and this thread is mainly about the fact that he's finding it tough and needs help??

I'm all for local non league scouting but players coming out of non league to Championship level aren't going to score the goals we require. It's too big a jump in quality, tactics, fitness, physicality, tempo and anything else you wish to mention.

Gray has come from non league and to expect him to bang in the goals in the Championship is unrealistic. Big Nick isnt that good either. Betinho is a mystery. Scott Hogan is out. Where is Will Grigg when you need him?

In case you didn't know, we knew all about Devonshire but the decision was taken that he was too skinny, lightweight and not quick enough to make it at pro level!!!!!

We also decided against Cyrille Regis after he'd given us a really hard time in a pre season friendly that I watched with my Dad.
Lots of clubs have let stars slip through the net, we're nowhere near the most guilty and unlikely to happen again with the scouting network and excellent academy set up now.

Problem with taking on non-league players is you can never be sure whether they will be able to make the step up. For every Cyrille Regis there are 2 or 3 Ricky Reinnas and Matthew Metcalfes

Nope.....don't know nearly enough about the relative merits of strikers in our price bracket or who might be available.....but that's MW's job......I simply posed the question last week which engendered a lot of discussion with quite a lot of people suggesting that we were 'OK with what we've got'........I'm also not criticising any of those that are currently with us as I'm sure they're doing their best.......but sometimes the best efforts of what you've got unfortunately isn't good enough.......in my opinion the facts speak for themselves.......our entire forward line have score 4 goals between them in 14 League games...........we need another

Trotta may not be the best option but he is certainly better than what we have off the bench right now. I would be happy to rest Grey for Trotta but not for NP. Betinho and Smith are clearly not an option to start either.

As far as Assombolonga was compared he was never going to be sold cheap as watford, for whom he developed knew full well just how good he was and he was never going to be sold cheap. Agreed, we could probably have loaned him instead of which he went to Southend.

We do scout nonleague thoroughly and have brought in some development squad players like Greene from Chelmsford and I agree it would be great if we could find another gem like Vardy but he also cost over a million from NonLeague too.

Bargains are few and far between as scouts get cannier and there are few secrets nowadays.

Trotta is a much trickier player than AG and NP put together, and can finish too. I'd welcome him back.

Trotta is a much trickier player than AG and NP put together, and can finish too. I'd welcome him back.

AG is definitely tricky but possibly not suited to the continual hard work of being the lone target man AND then expected to poach chances in the box.

I would certainly welcome Trotta back and put him straight into the first team. Move Gray out wide right with a free license, like most of our attacking players, to play more central when required.

Our current team plays beautiful passing football which then comes unstuck at the edge of the box where oppo defences set up their defensive walls. We then play hopeful short aerial balls towards nobody who is likely to win them against Championship quality central defenders. We also to try and pass the ball into the goal (a la Arsenal) when occasionally a snapshot from the edge of the box might be a better option.

Watching the FL show it is clear that other teams score goals with such incisive strikes when the mere semblance of an opening appears - that is something Trotta has shown he can do.

I think people may be forgetting that Hogan was playing in League 2 last year, so I doubt - if he was fit- that he would have been a banging the goals in as, like Gray, it is a massive step up to make.

Possibly our Portuguese 'sensation' - if he's fit then I can only guess he's not fit enough otherwise why is he, at best, an unused substitute all the time when we are clearly crying out for a goalscorer?

We 100% need a new striker. Andre Gray is a great player but we are really expecting too much from him to be involved and leading the line on his own each and every week (including midweek games too). He needs to be up against someone that is going to be giving him genuine competition for a place, which Nick P isn't. The problem is its very difficult to get a player on loan that is of high quality and match fit. We really need to get in a loanee or lay out the cash in the January. If its option A (loan for Trotta) at least we know his level of ability and what he is going to bring to the team.

People say Trotta is not proven at championship level, but he has played at a higher level than both Andre Gray and Scott Hogan had done before they signed for us. He does have a good record of bagging goals and knows most of the players. If we loan another player from the youth team of a premiership or another top flight team (an AKPOM or a Betinho type figure for example) it really is a gamble as you don't know whether they can perform at the right level or are used to the physicality of playing men's football. I'd say Trotta is the safest choice if we do not have or choose not to spend the funds on a new striker in January.
