That's a bit crazy that only one of that bunch of teams get through... seems a bit broken :(

Got a good friend here who talks about Benfica almost as much as i talk about the bees, so i gather they'll be favourites...

538 Club Rankings has:
Benfica: 35
PSV: 62
Midjylland: 88
Spartak: 97

So Benfica I guess are strong favourites.

4 FCM players have tested positive for COVID-19. Mikael Anderson after the Celtic game, and Pione Sisto, Nicolas Madsen - and Henrik Dalsgaard during the weekend.

The chances of a good resultat in Eindhoven are getting smaller. :(

I saw FCM were a huge price against PSV and I guess that is why. Very tough ask.

One more central defender tested positive today. Then there were only two experienced central defenders left.

But yesterday the Brazilian football federation contacted UEFA. It seems that the new Brazilian defender Juninho had a 8 games ban in the Brazilian League. As he obviously does't play there anymore, UEFA changed it to a 6 games International ban. UEFA told FCM this morning. So no Mr. Juninho tonight.

Not a very lucky today.

Yes, that was really unlucky. Hopefully, FCM can concentrate on the league.

Just seen that FCM assistant coach Austin McPhee has joined Aston Villa as set piece coach.

Celtic could be handed a Champions League lifeline after it emerged Midtjylland fielded an apparently suspended player, Juninho, in the Danish side's win against the Scots last week. (Scotsman - subscription required)

Midtjylland are considering an appeal against Juninho's ban after being told by Uefa not to field the Brazilian in Tuesday's third qualifying round first leg loss to PSV Eindhoven. (Evening Times)

Oh yeah. When are Celtic going to play their next round against PSV who have already competed in that round?

A place awaits them as CL losers in the Europa League

So Michelin* end up 2 tiers below Celtic in the Europa League draw!

There's no justice.

Coefficient is a joke.

Celtic are higher than Leicester - albeit in same pot.

Anyway...
Group F: Braga, Red Star Belgrade, Ludogorets, Midtjylland

Just to give a insight into the path of money.
Brentford paid a shocking low 8,5 mio. GBP for Frank Onyeka. ;)

FCM has now bought the Brazilian striker Marrony from Atletico Mineiro. Initial price 3,8 mio. GBP, which makes him the record signing in the Danish League. Added bonuses could bring the amont up to 6,3 mio. GBP, but some of the bonuses will require a future qualification to the Champions league group stages within the next 3 years, which are not likely.

The first step will be to secure the present first place in the Superliga today away to Brøndby. Maronny will probably make his debut, as FCM is very short of strikers at the moment.

On a further note FCM sold the striker Anders Dreyer yesterday to the Russian club Rubin Kazan. Price: 6,3 mio. GBP
He was bought from Brighton i January 2020. Price: 870.000 GBP.

A bit of Rasmus Ankersen magic?

Currently 0-1 at home to Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) after 70 mins, in Europa League……
Bottom of their league, on 1 point from 3 games as things stand……

I suspect that they aren't taking it seriously. Winning the league and therefore qual for CL GS is the priority.

Why do you say that? They've already done it once! And the Danish co-eff is higher now meaning the champions of Denmark enter the competition later. Believe only 1 game to get to GS now.

And there's 2 places to the CL for Denmark now.

Of course every point helps keeps Denmark coefficient up which helps that qualification.

With the introduction of the Conference League there have been changes to the rules. When FCM got into the group stages last year it was quite a miracle. 3 victories as a unseeded club. It was only the third time in the history of the Champion League that this had happened.
This season Denmark has 2 clubs in the Europa League group stages and 2 clubs in the Conference League group stages. That is by far the best Danish result ever, but....

From 2021/22 the road to the Champion League group stages is divided between Champions path (Brondby in this case), and League path (runners up: FCM) Brondby was unseeded and lost their first game and went into the Europa League group stages. FCM won against Celtic and gained the access to Europa League group stages, but lost to PSV Eindhoven, and missed any chance of getting into the CL group stages. Had they won against PSV they would still have had to play another game and win in order to get into the CL group stages. By the way PSV lost to Benfica and lost that chance.

The new rules that been debated in-depth in Danish media and football podcast throughout the summer. They are quite complicated, and it is much to complicate for me to understand all the details. But bottom line is that the new rules is an advantage for the big leagues, and in the future it will be very difficult for a Danish team to qualify for the CL group stages, and get their hands on some of the lovely money.

In 2022/23 Denmark will have 2 teams in the CL qualification. They will have to win 3 matches to get into the CL group stages. They will be up against teams from the big leagues that has come through the League path. That will be very difficult. Europa League group stages seems to match the level of Danish teams better.

Furthermore Denmark is going to lose the best years in the coefficient the coming years.

From left to right 2017/18 to the current season. As I mentioned 4 out of the 5 is still competing but they have won very few point. I think we will end up in 14th or 15th place.

I hope that is makes sense.

Has anyone been to see FCM? My group has designated the long weekend between the Watford and United games a lost weekend, and one of the - many - options we’re looking at is going to FCM v Brondby on the Sunday. Anyone know how easy it is to get there, what accommodation and nightlife are like?

Fly to Billund, if that is possible, at the moment. Much closer than Copenhagen. No nothing about the nightlife around there!

FC Midtjylland

First Leg of the Europa Conference League Knockout at home to PAOK, who have Chuba Akpom playing upfront for them tonight.

Henrik Dalsgaard starts for Midtjylland.

Kick off 5.45.

I spent a few days in Billund on holiday in 2012. It’s a very quiet little town and we didn’t even attempt to find somewhere to go out in the evenings. It’s a long drive to Copenhagen (266km according to Google Maps) which does have good nightlife. We had a lovely holiday but nowhere in Jutland struck me as a place for a lads weekend, football aside. Denmark
