Fitz as manager?

Now Fitz has one more game in charge he has another 90 mins to prove whether he's ready for 1st team management yet

Fitz as manager?

you have to be joking about fitz. He's only worked with theyouth team. Maybe in 3-4 years he will be ready for man management. The reason we were better on saturday was, NO SKULASON. NO PINAULT. NO WINEGOM and no reject from Swindon

Onion bhaji?

Fitz as manager?

I dont want Fitz as manager, plus i don't think it's actually fair on him anyway!

Fitz as manager?

Interesting comment on the OS from Dickens that says that those directly affected by the appointment will be briefed first... could he mean Fitz here? Perhaps indicating he's not made the second interviews?

Fitz as manager?

Fitz deserves alot of credit for putting a great squad together who are willing to give 110% for him and us. I hope he is given at least next season to see what he can do, IF we should go down.

Fitz as manager?

:imwith: If he was here from the beginning we would at least be mid-table...

Fitz as manager?

There's absolutely no question about it, the guy has completely transformed the playing side of the club from a bunch of losers (Cheltenham Town away) to a team that expects to get positive results every game. They're playing with the same level of ability and commitment that they regularly showed under Martin Allen last season. He'll more than do for me. Sign him on for the next two seasons I say!

Fitz as manager?

All I'll say on the Fitz debate is...looking at the team now what on earth was Leroy on when he signed all those planks.

At least Fitz has got rid of most of the dross and we now have some players who know what a football is!!

Good luck to the guy, from what I've seen so far he looks the part, but it will be interesting to see his progress when we face the money teams in this division as we need to get points off them!

Couldn't agree with you more. What's worrying me now is if we stay up or go down we will lose the services of the likes of Shipps, Leary, Richards etc. The board must back him moneywise and not rely on the fans for there generosity. It's likely too that we will lose JK. Sorry to be so negative, but now that Fitz has shown what he can do on a limited budget, my message to the board is for god's sake BACK the man

Fitz as manager?

It's likely too that we will lose JK.
Possibly, but unless there's a Campbellesque offer for him we should definitely keep him. He's fast, small, twists up defenders like there's no tomorrow and he's fantastic. The only problem is that he's so full of energy he helps out in positions where he crosses the ball in and he's not there to receive it.
Can we start up a Kuffour cloning fund instead, coz it'd be really good if we had two.

Fitz as manager?

... if we stay up or go down we will lose the services of the likes of Shipps, Leary, Richards etc.

Shipperley could well be tempted to stay on, maybe in a player/coach capacity, as he lives locally and it would allow him an easy life. If he does a great job for us this season, he will attract other offers, though. Leary and Richards are loan players and there can be no expectation they will stay with us for more than a month anyway!

Where do you think the board will get the money from if not from the fans? It's a 'fans-owned club' FFS.

... It's likely too that we will lose JK.

Why? He's played this season in a team that's made him look good but he's hardly a top-quality striker!

Fitz as manager?

owwww hes gorgus :love2: I love fitz hes brilliant. But got to give some credit to Reeves too, Hes come in and done a good job like fitz. Good luck to both will be hero's if they get us out of the deep end.

Fitz as manager?

the problem is that contracts take negotiation - and that would mean him taking time out and away from managing the side to go through the process with the md (who is a bit of a toss pot with all his unilver graphs and hr methodology ! ) also we don't know if we are talking 1st or 2nd division money / budgets etc.

let the chairman have a quiet word and say they want him to stay on and he is doing well / job is safe etc etc but to wait 'til the end of the season to start contract negotiations....

Fitz as manager?

I think Fitz is now in a win win situation.
When Fitz took over a squad lacking in passion and belief, including players of Conference standard, joke loan signings, devoid of any set play tactics (apart from every corner being hit towards Heywood, and playing JK on the right of midfield), we were doomed to relegation. Now, whilst relegation is still looking odds on, Fitz has sorted the shambles out as has been well documented in recent posts.
So if we do go down it would be madness not to give him the job next season, and if we were to stay up the man would have probably eclipsed the great escape that he was involved in as a player. He wins either way and deservedly so.
Whoever was involved in appointing Leroy should never be allowed to have any part in appointing a manager for this Club again.

Fitz as manager?

Is it possible we could give this great escape effort the same backing as the last? T- shirts, wristbands etc might seem cheesy but last time round it not only made some money but gave a tangible feeling of excitement and hope.

Good Idea!

:nono: To the use of PMA wristbands.. but 'Great Escape' ones :sorted:

I'd wear the T-Shirt loud and proud.

Anything to help the cause I guess. :sorted:

..............hasn't Leary's loan been confirmed to the end of the season........?

...............he has shown that with the right service, he knows where the goal is.........

Fitz as manager?

If Fitz keeps us up I think we will be lucky to keep him...you get good managers but ones that perform miracles are very rare..

Fitz as manager?

Even if we're not lucky enough to stay up i can actually see a bright future for us under Fitz.
SCOTT FITZGERALDS BARMY ARMY! :hat:

ayye i would love a new design of a t-shirt:sorted:

A new design or resurrect an old one?

Fitz as manager?

Fitz and Reeves
rolled up their sleeves
And brought in Shipps, Keith, Richards and Leary
He got rid of Winegum
Onion Bhaji and more some
Now life is a lot less dreary.......................:sorted:

But let's not get carried away just yet team mates.

Fitz and Reeves only measurement of success this season should be keeping us up (playing well or ugly is optional ). All else is IMHO secondary because if we fall into League two we might just slip right through......

But 7 stonking points from the last three games and perhaps 4 points from the next two will do nicely and l will start believing again

The finishing line is the end of the season. Let's review then.

Fitz as manager?

It IS unfair to compare with something that was the past BUT it does look good and there is that continuum/analogy with what happened before and I for one would go with it :sorted:

Fitz as manager?

With MA it was like a storming of the barricades... high on passion and motivation.

With Fitz it feels more like an organised escape, like an episode of Colditz...

Fitz as manager?

What I would like to know is where are all those people, who, when Scott was appointed were holding their heads and crying:nono: :nono: I said Fitz would bail us out :sorted: :sorted: and I have no reason to believe otherwise now, hes got HIS team now and we are winning AND playing well, so come on all those who slated him , eat your humble pie lots of it:D :D :D

Long way to go as Monday proved....

Fitz as manager?

The next few games will test fitz big time, wev'e got big games coming up,
scunthorpe, bristol and oldham will tell us alot with in the next 5 games, but i do have alot of faith in him,far more than leroy......at least there's hope in fitz

Fitz as manager?

I don't think this proved we have a long way to go at all

Jason Crowe in the Chronny didn't think so either. Quoted after the match as saying that we made it very tough for them second half and if we play like that for the rest of the season we'll win more than we lose.

Can we sign him please? Not many better full backs in our division than Crowe (imo).

Fitz as manager?

Crowe is talking over a new deal as it runs out at the end of the season according to the local rag I'm reading.

Fitz as manager?

No you're right, a few more performances like that and it'll all be over very quickly....

BUT............there hasn't been performances like that recently, we've been playing well and picking up points.

Ok we were sh*te on Monday, i quite agree, but i don't think we should read into it too much, he was a bit tactically naive......but he's still learning too

  ;)

As the 2 incumbents this season, Rosenior and Fitzgerald, its time to compare records after both managers have reached 18 games !

Rosenior: Pld 18 W 3 D 8 L 7 F 16 A 29 Pts 17

Fitzgerald: Pld 18 W 4 D 4 L 10 F 13 A 26 Pts 16

But taking into account the sh*te Fitz had to work with prior to 1.1.07 his record since then hasn't been too bad.

From taking over as caretaker up to 31.12.06 Fitz's record is

Pld 8 W 1 D 1 L 6 F 4 A 17 pts 4

After 1.1.07 when additions to the squad were made his record is:

Pld 10 W 3 D 3 L 4 F 9 A 9 pts 12

So since 1.1.2007 the defence/keeping has improved enormously but the goalscoring, although doubled, is still only averaging a goal a game.........

That record over the next ten games would still take us down :(

We probably need to improve it by 50 per cent

Important to note that the signings Fitz made probably weren't available in pre-season as not many clubs want to loan out players straight away or release them until a little bit of the season has gone. I don't know who else Leroy could of signed, we've always been screwed this season.

Both records are a bit pap really and since the signings it's got a tiny bit better, don't forget some were for just a month and we haven't really built for next season. It would be impossible to go through a season on loan signing so I'm a bit concerned about next season. Hopefully we'll keep Abbey and Keith.

Bring back Leroy! We did play better attacking passing footie under Leroy :fishing:

Fitz as manager?

Interesting as well when you look at the league games Leroy lost compared to Fitz.

Swansea H 0-2 (Great game to watch, we missed loads of chances)
Yeovil H 1-2 (Terrible defending from a quick throw in)
Chesterfield A 3-1 (Rubbish performance, although they'd just knocked out Premiership clubs in cup)
Rotherham A 2-0 (Rotherham hadn't sold their players and were beating everyone at the time)
Oldham A 3-0 (Flying high at the time)
Notts Forest A 2-0 (Ditto)
Crewe H 0-4 (Close first half, terrible second half, people wanting Leroy dead come the final whistle!)

SACKED!

None of these were easy games were they?

7 League games lost

Fitz

Cheltenham A 2-0
Doncaster H 0-4
Port Vale A 1-0
Carlise A 2-0
Millwall H 1-4
Swansea A 1-0
New signings start to arrive
Bournemouth A 1-0
Yeovil A 1-0
Northampton H 0-1
Scunthorpe H 0-2
Bristol City A 1-0

Fitz has lost 11 league games.

Fitz has lost 11 league games.

I think there were some players on the pitch as well!

Today, at BCFC, Fitz changed the formation to 3-5-2 to match them up. Although we finished second in the game, it was not too shabby. He's a much better tactician than Leroy ever was but... so poor a squad, so little time.

I'm sorry, I disagree. How can Fitz be claimed to be a better tactician then Leroy?

With the same bunch of players + some added better players his record is worse. Leroy had a few injuries when our form took a dip but he managed to battle out a number of draws. Near the end of his stint we lost several on the trot, but overall his record was better.

Surely a better tactician would have a better record. We've been a lot more patient with Fitz then Leroy, probably because the loses have been spread out.

How much longer can some of us blame our season on Leroy, Willock and the 2 loan signings?

I think you're being exceptionally generous to Leroy and unduly harsh on Fitz. Aside from the 2nd half of the Bradford game, I struggle to remember a time when Brentford played well under Leroy and indeed our early season promise was in no small part down to some incredible good fortune at times.

In your previous post you mentioned the defeats at Chesterfield, Oldham and Rotherham and put one of the most favourable slants on those performances that I've heard to date.

I don't know whether you had the misfortune of being at any of those games but I can assure you that all three, with the Oldham game standing out most, were some of the very, very worst performances that I've witnessed from a Brentford team in over 20 years.

Now Fitz is in no way perfect, I think he still has a lot to learn tactically and needs to get the team playing to a style where we can really hurt opponents in the final third but he has made huge progress with the team in my eyes.

First and foremost, he has managed to improve one of the worst Brentford squads ever assembled with some astute dealings in the loan market and has managed to change the team from being humiliated on a weekly basis to being able to compete for large periods such as we did at Bristol today.

Following some of the performances earlier in the season, the results at Blackpool and Huddersfield were nothing short of remarkable and certainly would never have been seen as possible towards the end of Leroy's tenure.

Fitz has a long way to go if he is to become a successful manager but I do think that he deserves no small amount of credit for steadying the ship and at least giving us a fighting chance of avoiding the drop.
