Five-year rolling TAPs model??

I was just browsing the club’s website and came across an update from the Ticket Access Points (TAPs) Working Group regarding the proposed five-year rolling TAPs model. From what I can see, there was general agreement in September’s last meeting among fan groups that this system would reward high-attendance fans and allow families attending away games together to stay in similar TAPs windows.

I know there was talk about potential changes to the TAPs system, especially after the Luton game, but I hadn’t heard anything official until now. It looks like this might have been approved, but I’m not entirely sure.

Does anyone know more details about this? Is this just a recommendation, or will it definitely be implemented next year? Could it even affect season tickets?

This meeting happened five months ago, and I haven’t noticed any further communication with fans. Has anyone heard anything more?

An announcement is imminent. It was due last week but BIAS and BU both had comments on the proposed communication. The working group has been engaged on this over a long period. It would now be better to wait until the final details are published to comment. The pack of communications is quite extensive and detailed.

If something like this were implemented, it would be best to reduce the value of TAPs from 5+ years ago, rather than eliminate them entirely.

i.e. If you have 1000 TAPs that are 5+ years old, then they're reduced to ~200 TAPs. Doesn't seem right that the loyalty from our Football League days should be completely forgotten.

I think we did something similar in the first couple of years of TAPs being introduced.

Is this another way of alienating the 'through thick and thin" loyals. I'm sure this is what the club wants.
It does look that way.
I think what Fulham did with their Chelsea allocation will be done again and many clubs will follow suit.

The risk of that perception is something BIAS has worked hard on to minimise and mitigate in the actual scheme on the basis of real data.

Before you all decide this is some nefarious plot, perhaps have a look at how it will impact you personally. There will be individual comms on this. If you've not attended any games for the last 5 years then not sure why that gets you access to tickets over those that are still going to away games. Non?

Just because you're lucky enough to be over 50 doesn't mean you get tickets for life over the kids. IMHO. If we carry on just adding to TAPs forever our crowds would exclusively be OAPs eventually and no kids at all

Sure, it shouldn’t be a closed shop.
But it isn’t it?
If you’re a new fan you can easily get your taps up by attending half of all away games which either don’t sell out or become available to all members.

The idea that as of next season a fan who has been with us since the lower league days (and that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re OAPs) will have same chance at getting a Bournemouth ticket as Mohammed from Hounslow with his half and half scarf whose only started to come to the Gtech since Man Utd have come to town is not right.

So you've already decided that is the outcome of this. Fine. Has your knee already hit your chin? How about waiting for the truth before deciding if it hurts?

Going on the presumption this rumour is true
If it isn’t then delete the thread?

Interesting you chose that hypothetical name out of any others. Brown people not your thing?

Sounds a bit tough on old gits like me who have reached a decent number of TAPs, sufficient to guarantee any game, but then don't do the number of aways they used to. I have medical reasons which make a lot of travel difficult nowadays so wouldn't be looking for many away tickets anyway. Be a shame to get knocked back if that is the case.

Again, I would wait to see the details and any exception/mitigation processes that might be put in place.

Represents well the new type of fan an “all inclusive” Brentford wants to attract and prioritise, no?

Whats with the 5/9/25 date in the original post? Has some time travelling occured?

I mean lets see what comes to bear but im that 1000ish TAPS level currently because ive accrued a modest amount each season since TAPs were a thing. Can't imagine I'll be getting much special dispensation

Well if they didn't do it there wouldn't be a risk of such perception. Like so many things these days, the perception of something overrides the actual action..

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

Thought a change like this would come along at some stage. Pleased BIAS are on board with discussions and comms.

Keeping all of your taps for five years sounds fine and maybe more generous than I might have expected. You could have some more complex sliding scale so you keep some of 2013 - 2020 but then you'd probably also devalue some of say 2020-23 too so current loyalty is worth the most.

People on here have argued, at times, that games 12 years ago should be worth MORE than games now "because we were no good then" but the club have an incentive to get people to go to games now, not pat fans on the back for the bad old days. And of course there were lots of seasons and decades in the lower league which got no credit at all, what's special about 2013/14? It just happens to be when records started.

The best reason to leave it alone is that nobody that's keen really misses out very much at the moment, so is it "broke"? Interested in what the major advantages are. Giving more people certainty they can go to away games and make plans?

Overall though, whatever changes - if you go to away games, you will keep getting to go away ganes.

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

Personally have no issue with this provided it is done properly - we need to allow the younger fanbase access to tickets as they are the future of the club. Hopefully it is done on a reducing balance basis whereby you still retain your TAP's from pre-PL days but they are scaled down accordingly as us older fans will still be going even if the worst happens and we fall through the leagues.

Right-ho. I'm sure BIAS/BU have made their feelings known on this.

Do you mean representative of the borough it’s situated in? I don’t think they are prioritising anyone. If you’re going to away games at the moment and have done since we got promoted you won’t miss out.

I'm sure there was talk of only 10% being carried forwards from one season to the next, it was discussed on here at length, but I'm sure it didn't happen. It was just an idea.

"The move to a rolling model will benefit families ....."

My 10 year supporting daughter will now be in the same tier as her 15 year supporting brother and me - her 55 year supporting dad. We two longer termers might be slightly worse off (details unknown right now) but given she's been to every game we both have ever since she started going, it's only fair that she's at the same level as us - there is a massive gap right now that will never be bridged in my lifetime. I doubt anyone who still goes on a very regular basis is going to miss out at all here.

Having a change in personal circumstances in the last few years (aka 2 kids) has meant I've gone from 4-5 away games a season to 1 or 2 aways.

Of course I'd love to have priority access to every match... but realistically why should I when there are others, perhaps more recent fans who are able to support the team more than I can? If the system changes, good luck to them...

Just overt racism this ? please take it elsewhere.

Although it "gets their taps up", those fans, eg my son, are playing an impossible game of catchup with the others who keep going to those games also.
There's absolutely no chance of your made up scenario happening based on what's just been presented to us anyway.

But i am sure many ( me included ) are proud of their high TAPS total and would be sad to see that go .
But like i say , will wait to see how they intend to proceed.

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

For the higher demand/lower allocation, I just hope they apply the right tranches. It's these rare instances where it affects me.
Otherwise I'm all for the club looking to encourage new and /or younger fans. But this has to be balanced out with those who have been coming along for a while. Hard work which I don't envy. Thankfully I'm in a position where if I want a ticket, I will get one. My loyalty has earned that privilege and I don't want that to be taken away from me or others like myself. I'll wait and see

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

I’m wondering why anyone would actively want to discourage, Mohammed, a local fan from Hounslow, who has gone to a lot of games home and away over 4 seasons and would like to come to more games.

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

Lots of speculation but no point getting your knickers in a twist until the detail is in front of us. Most likely the losers will be people who don’t go anymore, and I’m not going to lose much sleep over them.
I want a gold plaque with my TAPS total on if they change it :sorted:

Agree as the future fans are the young ones now and imo they need to be able to get tickets as opposed to a lifer who went when we played Grimsby away in 1985

Because he is not the type of fan they are looking for or wanting to sit/stand next too.
