Five-year rolling TAPs model??

Every PL home and away would be 770. But school kids can’t do every game.
Yes I thought @Banana himself had said about 800 at one point, so that was the basis for my estimate of at least 5 years. Low tappers can't earn in the ones that never got to their window too - which isn't many now but was all London games and some others in the first couple of years.

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

If my sheets are correct, 22/23 was 820 and 23/24 was 800. I’ve stopped counting them now as the club seem to have this under control.

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

Removing the bonus TAPs awarded just because lots of us bought something at a point in time will be the biggest boost for equity amongst our fanbase from the proposal.
Is that even legal? You sell something with the promise of a bonus of X. Then remove that bonus after they've paid?

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

I’m in the same boat. A large proportion of my TAPs were acquired over 10 years ago before I had kids.

Do I need them now? Not really, since I don’t do as many away games as I did then and as you say most away games make it on sale to all ST holders anyway.

Do I think those trips to Oldham, Preston, Mboro etc should still count for something? Absolutely.
Indeed.

Me and my brother might be good examples where I think the anticipated ‘proposals’ feel a bit off but perhaps I’m being precious.

I’m mid 40s and have been consistently going to something like about 90% of home games for about 30 years and on average I’d estimate about 8 or 9 aways during that same period (pretty average support compared to some I appreciate). Did about about 15 aways during the first couple of seasons in the Premier League but the last two seasons has been much lower trying to juggle a very young family - maybe 7 or 8 (mostly London and the south other than the odd Man U etc). I’m not one of the mega TAPs crew, but have getting on for 6,000 so have always been in tranche 1.

My brother, started going during the last season at GP and got a season ticket with one of his kids. Before that you could count on one hand how many times he’d been to watch Brentford in the past 30 years. He goes to something like 80% of home games but does a ‘lot’ of aways with the kids; maybe on average about 15 or 16 a season.

I must confess, I’ve always bathed in smugness when a game like Bournemouth comes around; feels like a very small bit of recognition for the 25 years that I was going when he wasn’t and the idea of that being eroded is eating me up a bit  Appreciate that can’t and shouldn’t go on for eternity with my current attendance level so no issue with changes being brought in but equally wasn’t anticipating having the rug pulled from under me so quickly.

Other points:
> Feels like there should be a lead in period between the announcement of the rolling TAPs system and it actually kicking in. E.g. commences 27/28 season.
> Doesn’t the last 5 years cover a period when a lot of people were buying tickets with no intention of going to games just to get their TAPs up? As someone with big TAPs already it’s not something I ever considered but would have done if I’d seen this coming.

(…Off to find my tin hat)

Hard to be sure without poring over the T&Cs at the time but if the TAPs system is not a contractual part of the ticket sale terms no. You could I suppose argue there was a misrepresentation inducing those sales contracts but it’s a bit shaky; “Yes your Honour, I really wouldn’t have ordered 6 pints with whiskey chasers at Stripes after the Doncaster game but for the loyalty points on offer”.

In practice for contracts “is it legal” comes down to “would anyone actually seek to enforce this and be likely to win?” Maybe there’s a wealthy enough Bees fan who could have a go on principle and not mind it costing more than being able to buy hospitality tickets to pretty much any games they want to attend for the next decade (though they’d probably get the costs back if they won).

Apologies if this is lawyerish flippancy.

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

Understand the 'arguments' being stated on here about changes in people's circumstances over the past few years that have meant that they can't got to as many games recently as they used to, and are therefore going to be 'punished'/lose the reward for the hard yards they did back in the day.
But, conversely, what about the people that, due to their circumstances, couldn't get to games a few years ago. And therefore couldn't build up a 'historic' high level of TAPs. But are going regularly now?
All a case of swings and roundabouts with regards to personal circumstances.................and we go back to Wayne and Roger as 'examples'...........

I guess the waters are muddied somewhat by the fact that we’re in the PL now as opposed to League One/Championship as we were when many of the TAPs that will be knocked off were acquired. It’s daft but fans will have a sort of attachment to those TAPs because they’re an acknowledgment that you were one of the 200 at Oldham as opposed to the 3,000 at Anfield

Yeah, true.
But without asking people: "Would you have gone to Oldham if you could have afforded it/didn't have kids/caring responsibilities at the time" etc. etc, and got an honest answer, who can say who's the most "deserving"..............?? ?‍♂️

No apologies needed. THIS reply was the one I wanted ;) as I suspected it was a bit iffy under numerous possible things whether trade descriptions or misrepresentation.

Just think it's all rather avoidable by just, say, raising the amount of TAPs awarded each year slightly.

Did a little adding up myself and it looks like the total TAPS available this season / pre-season, including friendlies and cup games is 970.

Disclaimer: I may have missed some and I may have got the TAPS awarded wrong since I didn't attend all of the matches in person and some haven't happened yet.

Looking at all these thresholds (more points available than I expected)...personally I think the system is largely fine as it is for the "new Brentford" who do loads of aways and is going to pretty quickly going to catch up in points, in a few years, with those who've been going for a long time, but not doing loads of aways.

I think it's more of an issue for "new Brentford" who don't do many aways, since the TAPs for aways are much higher, and they could find it hard to catch up without going for a very long time. I guess the question is "should they catch up", at the expense of people who've been loyal for much longer, likely in lower divisions.

Perhaps continue to use the existing TAP tiers, but simply reserve 15% of away tickets, for a ballot, that goes to any member or ST holder, who didn't manage to purchase once the 85% are sold out. That way they all get a shot at a ticket. Without it being guaranteed.

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

I’m not sure why someone who goes to lots of away games should have to spend 5+ years to make getting to go to those games as easy as it is for someone who doesn’t go to away games now and doesn’t want to go to any now but did go to games more back in the day. It makes it sound to me a little like we’re starting to treat going to games in 2013 as a penance (Doncaster and Yeovil games aside!), watching the 2014 L1 promotion a hardship, the 2015 Championship play off charge needing lifelong compensation.

I can see an argument for recognising the small band of hardy souls who subjected themselves to Butcher in 2006. But that’s probably more appropriately a medal or statue. And even then we all went to and go to games principally because we think it a fun thing to do. When Burton away became un-fun at 3-1 down at half time several decided to hit the nice pubs instead. I think they probably would still have done so if they had been told that they only got the TAPs for staying to the end.

Barring Bournemouth away, if they've been going to most games for 3 or 4 years, they're probably going to get a ticket for most aways aren't they?

I really wish we could have this debate without using the term “new Brentford”. It’s needlessly divisive. My kids never saw us in the lower leagues because they weren’t alive then, are they “new Brentford”?

I am. Because the person who has "lots" of TAPs now has built them up over many seasons. A new Bee will also build there TAPs over a number of years - or when do you think they should achieve parity? A month, a week, immediately?

I am very grateful for all that BIAS, BU and others do for the fanbase - and I realise what a fortunate relationship they have with the Club on our behalf on many things - but I can't help but feel that you and others have spent many hours "resolving" a non-issue.

Who said there was a problem and what was the remit that you were all working to?

If they descended from old Brentford then they’re not new Brentford

It wasn't meant to be.....it's just a lot quicker to say that "fans without a load of taps because they haven't been going for more than half a decade".

Good list. So Banana was close when he said 1000 then.

But if you remove the school night out of London aways (Newcastle x2, Villa) and the games that didn’t go to low taps (Muff, Ful, think that’s it but was more previous seasons), a junior fan could earn a maximum of 795 this season.

No it's complete illegal under the Parliament Hates Brentford Act 2013.

Kurt should be locked up next week when this all goes through. Double bonus

:imwith: I’ve read a few times why should someone who doesn’t go as often get a ticket over someone who goes regularly.
Doesn’t make much sense to me.
If they go regularly then they are getting the ticket and building taps, and the people who don’t go often will fall behind eventually if they continue not going.
How the system should work.

Yeah. I'm struggling to see much of an issue here.

Yes, don’t disagree with all that. But atm it’s v hard for junior fans to catch up. If my 10 year old keeps attending every game he possibly can it will still take 6+ years to get a Bournemouth ticket at the current rate as he can only close the gap by around 400 a year on someone only doing home and 1-2 away who already has 4k+ taps.

This is one of many reasons why I agree with the change and my taps are being chopped in half.

Yep, I think a 'catch-up' period of 6+ years under the circumstances you've described is too long and demonstrates why some tweaks are required. However, if you doubled, tripled or even quadrupled current TAPs awarded for individual games it would dilute the 'legacy' TAPs and make the catch up period much more 'reasonable' whilst allowing existing top TAP'ers to remain at the top (if they're still going regularly). I'm sure some will say that it's the tranche you're in and not the amount of TAPs you have that matters but isn't there a possibility we might draw someone with a tiny away allocation like Harrogate, Sutton, Salford, Barrow(!) etc one day in the cup? In which case, you'll need to be at the very, very top to be in tranche 1.

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

Ok well my family have been going to Brentford since the 1930s so I think we’re good then! ?
We go back to the 30s as well and my grandson is a fifth generation Bee. As his TAPs build up it will be poetic justice if it is me he displaces in the TAPs rankings.

Five-year rolling TAPs model??

As there’s too many replies to read can I just assume that if you have a season ticket and do all of the home games and a large majority of the away games then you have nothing to worry about ? Asking for a friend ???

So if a 10 year old boy has 3310 TAPs all earned since 2017 he will not lose any points or does he also lose points from pre 2021 ?

He may qualify for a Bournemouth ticket tomorrow, but may not be sold one because he is too young and his old man may have already bought one and those that are left could be at the back and because he is under 5 foot he will see not a lot.

Not an easy one to reply too Mr C i know.

It's not only Bournemouth, Fulham or Luton. It will probably include all the other London games at normal Saturday 3pm kick off (Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Palace and WestHam). Recently these have been moved around for TV, which helped the likes of us that only started in the last years of the championship.

Bournemouth sold out yesterday...problem solved ;)

It is an easy one to answer?... once the policy is announced.
It sounds like he will lose points from 2017 to 2020, but it won't be as many as those like yourself who also attended before that. If he's attended regularly 2021-25 and continues to do so, he'll move up the queue, not down.
Your TAPs will get closer together and this will actually make it easier to buy seats together at away games in future.

Okay with that tbh,but i will tell him he will definitely be there next season if this system we are implementing works.;)

You are 100% correct. I have never in my life read such twaddle in one tread over a non issue. Absolutely beggars belief.

People obviously have too much time on their hands, and that includes posters on here probably knocking up spreadsheets counting TAP's, BIAS, Beesotted, Club, etc.. What an absolute joke and get a life.

Yeah soon it will be like Zimbawian currency and 200000000000000 TAPs for Arsenal at home

or we could have a straightforward rolling window. I know which one is more straightforward to explain.

Let me try again. The issue with your suggestion is it is not a permanent fix. It is a sticking plaster that would require fixing again and again and again until it gets to the point where quadrupling TAPs every season would mean handling very large numbers to the point of ridicule. Hope that explains it better.

So someone on 0 TAPs now will take 10 years to get as many TAPs as someone who has taken 10 years to build up a shed load of TAPs. Seems very reasonable.
But then they would have to take another 10 years to get as many TAPs as someone who has been attending 20 years ( by then). Meanwhile you, with your 10 years of TAPs, are behind no-one that attended for 10 years before you came along.

Not really fair is it?

I wasn't suggesting that it needs regular increases- just a one off to water down big legacy TAPs in the short term whilst a rolling system is introduced and embedded over a period of time rather than overnight. I thought the primary ‘target’ of the cull were big TAP holders that don’t go to games regularly anymore but under the anticipated proposals that we’re hearing about it seems as though a lot of top TAP’ers (who are still attending regularly) will immediately become equals to those that have ‘only’ been attending regularly for 5 seasons (4 of which are Premier League). I guess some might say that is correct but I personally think the it’s too soon to erase all recognition of legacy TAPs.
