His name is Josh Dasilva. The missing piece of the jigsaw hasn’t changed since Eriksen’s brief cameo: an attacking midfielder who can run at players and chip in with regular goals. In short, an Italia 90 Gazza (without the baggage). Should be easy for a Geordie like Phil…
Think we've just been unlucky with injuries in this department, you're describing JDS, Milambo, and to an extent Carvalho (though he's more about trickery in zone 14 than strident carries through the thirds)The missing piece of the jigsaw hasn’t changed since Eriksen’s brief cameo: an attacking midfielder who can run at players and chip in with regular goals. oh yeah , we should be playing him thenHis name is Josh Dasilva.
Our registered Squad players (*Home grown)I'm interested to see how the equation of squad numbers plays out this second half of the season. We've offloaded Maghoma, a few out on loan....... only the Bruge lad in . But its January and we are doing well in the league so does it make sense to stick with what we have and spend in the summer ? And we have quite a few up and comings for whom next season would likely be stepping up or stepping out time. Thinking Konak, Kim, Arthur etc.
Of course this is idle thought. PG will tell you it's all about the right moment for a deal. Which could be now. For someone we've never heard of who isn't on anyones radar except his and MB's.
What a time to be a Bees fan.
I suspect Pinnock might well leave tooOur registered Squad players (*Home grown)

So having only registered 24 (including adedokun who clearly is just there as backup cos we had the space anyway) 3 are gone already with only an u21 coming in. So assuming that's it for Jan we're on 21 senior squad members with only 11 out of a possible 17 not home-grown.
From next season Kayode and Yarmoliuk will no longer be u21s. All of our first team loanees will still be u21, and of the b teamers out on loan only Brierly and Olakigbe would be over 21. There's a handful of B teamers over 21 who aren't on loan but I don't really see any of them taking up a squad place unless we've got some going spare like with adedokun this season.
Nelson as it stands will go back to arsenal so I think we can treat the possibility of him staying as a new signing rather than including him. Onyeka will almost certainly go next summer if he doesn't go this window.
So assuming no first team promotion for Brierly or Olakigbe, no permanent deal for Nelson and a sale for Onyeka, we can register 4 more senior players without moving anyone else on, and none of them would need to be home grown.
Basically I think the limiting factor is gonna be our desire not to have an overcrowded squad rather than any issues around registration numbers

At season end, not nowNot now Ajer is injured
And his understudy, MilamboHis name is Josh Dasilva.
Thanks for that good overview. I imagine the current injuries wont increase our rate of hiring this winter. We buy or loan when the time is right , not to cover injury , by and large. But equally the time is right for the likes of Onyeka and Pinnock to go. It might leave us stretched but we've had worse and only half season to see out. In a funny way Id rather we tread water a bit now so Keith and crew can invest wisely in the summer for a bumper season next time out. Again this is idle chat because we purchase on a right time/ right price basis. Our registered Squad players (*Home grown)

His name is Josh Dasilva.
We’re almost at a stage now – plus Keith and his coaching team are learning fast – where we should be able to select the formation and the players to support a specific game plan. It’s therefore possible (next season, for example) to decide, against a specific opposition, that is all about individual players who can progress the ball directly, so play Dasilva and/or Milambo tactically to achieve that.I'm a big fan, but even in the one PL season where he played a lot of games (22/23) he only started something like 14 out of 36.
lack of depth in midfieldWhat are you fearing?
Worse results than if we hadWhy? What is likely to happen?
I think it's too early to count on JDS and Milambo still a long road ahead IMO.We’re almost at a stage now – plus Keith and his coaching team are learning fast – where we should be able to select the formation and the players to support a specific game plan. These tactical options in style of play make it that no outfield player gets to play every game.

That's probably Romelle Donovan who will also be the first Brentford player to play in goal for England.I get the “horse for courses” argument but against that I’d say you need a fulcrum, a main man. I know it’s preposterous but if I could ask Santa for one thing to finish my life of watching the Bees it would be to see a peak Gascoigne, Eriksen type playmaker in our stripes… after everything else we’ve witnessed, why not?
Would somewhat make sense, pretty well stocked on defensive midfielders but a bit light on attacking / creative options with current injuries. Only issue is he probably finds himself quite far down the pecking order when Carvalho and Milambo are back next season. Imagine if we were to bring a midfielder in, and doubt we will, it would be a loan.Quite a bit of noise on Twitter from Coventry fans that Rudoni is coming. Onyeka going the other way plus cash.

lack of depth in midfield
Think a midfielder was a must in January given that we’ve been playing a midfield 4 recently with only one back up mid on the bench and now with Mikel injured ( don’t know the extent) we are very light in that position nowAgree, but it's also the quality of back up. Need at least 2 in summer as I can't see Frank, Henderson and Jensen being here in the new season.
we still need a creative back up for Dams now, but with Fabs and Antonio to come back next season they might hold out ?Think a midfielder was a must in January given that we’ve been playing a midfield 4 recently with only one back up mid on the bench and now with Mikel injured ( don’t know the extent) we are very light in that position now

The only midfield position we’ve not really go a back-up for is a №6. Janelt’s doing a storming job there but there’s a need for an understudy, at least.Think a midfielder was a must in January given that we’ve been playing a midfield 4 recently with only one back up mid on the bench and now with Mikel injured ( don’t know the extent) we are very light in that position now
I think hendo is more like for like coming for Janelt than he is for Yarmo. Maybe a young Jordan Henderson was more Yarmo like but at Brentford I think both are rood for leadership, discipline, organisation, deep playmaking and work rate but are lacking a bit in pace, tenacity and sheer ground coverage compared to Yarmo. It won’t happen this window, though.
There’s clearly a potential vacancy for a ‘proper’ №6, defensive midfielder in the grand scheme of things but… we know they’re very, very difficult to find. We never had one before Nørgaard and, at present without Onyeka, we have Janelt (not bad), with Yarmolyuk and Henderson, neither are ‘true’ 6’s.
I very much doubt we’ll sign one this window but I’d be quite certain there’s a list and July may see a recruit.
Regarding attacking midfielders, there’s so many different types but it’s the Dasilva (ball-carrying, dribbling) type we’re short of, bearing in mind we’ve got two young long-term injuries in stock.
He may be more likely given our current squad but he’s not a №6, in the Nørgaard sense. Those players are very difficult to find, as we saw when Christian joined as we’d never had one before. We’ve got Konak in the development pipeline but IMHO we’ve got a space there to fill.I think hendo is more like for like coming for Janelt than he is for Yarmo. I think the days of a clean distinction where 6s win the ball and make safe passes and the occasional diags while 8s progress the ball and keep things ticking are over. Modern 6s need to break lines with their passes, modern 8s need to win the ball higher up the pitch and cover more ground, defensive and attacking responsibilities are more diffuse in general. Especially since most teams now play a double pivot rather than an anchor man behind 2 8sHe may be more likely given our current squad but he’s not a №6, in the Nørgaard sense. Even a loan player like Harvey Elliott for example would be good, just to have some creativity in the squad to the end of the seasonwe still need a creative back up for Dams now, but with Fabs and Antonio to come back next season they might hold out ?

Three in one season I believe but could be wrongHe can't play for another English club can he?
You believe right only two English clubsThree in one season I believe but could be wrong
No, he can only play for Liverpool again as he’s already played for them and Villa this season. He can't play for another English club can he?
You can be registered with three but only play for two.Three in one season I believe but could be wrong
Ooh, will Forest sign him?Raheem Sterling released by Chelsea. Not for us in my view but talk about a fall from grace. Should do something for someone somewhere.
