Personally I'm happy with the squad as it is.

Deadline day signings, particularly in January, are signs of a desperate, poorly run club - that's why you're seeing Notts Forest linked with a bunch of players who are rejecting them. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule, such as the rare misfortune of injuries to several key players in a short space of time, key players being poached very late or long term negotiations being delayed by the selling club due to a one in, one out policy. Nothing like that applies to us. There are no new serious injuries since Fabio (touch wood it stays that way) and nobody that has left this window (or is rumoured to leave in the next few hours) has had a meaningful impact on this season.

We're 7th in the league, performances have been largely very good and we've either taken or deserved something from the game since beating Wolves 9 games ago. The current first team squad has earned this position and the right to play out these last 14 league games, plus whatever comes of the cup run, in search of a special end to the season.

Roll on Newcastle!

3 midfielders for 2 roles in midfield, wouldn't want Jenson and Damsgaard in the Henderson and Janelt role from yesterday.
Just feel we have left ourselves short if Frank goes.

Jensen wouldn't be so bad, he's played as a lone 6 before he can definitely be the more advanced of 2 6/8s in a double pivot.

Both he and Damsgaard can also be 8s in a 433 if we go back to that

I want a good old fashioned fax machine whirring car park to car park driving midnight transfer fiasco.

We’ve extended a few contracts and lost anyone big as of yet happy with that

Shuts at 7 .....
Exactly. If its still going at midnight (like it used to) its been a fiasco.
If it doenst involve Harry Redknapp or Barry Fry hunched over a fax machine in the dead of night its not worth the paper its written on.

Really worried with the squad depth with all these players leaving. Yes it's right some of them needed to go, but the lack of incomings have left us a bit short squad wise. We are still fighting on two front and hope we give it a real go in the cup.

Window Over, 2 contact extension were excellent work, but the lack of incomings leaves us short for the run in. Need to make quite a few signings in the summer as I can see Henderson, Jensen, Pinnock and maybe Schade going in the summer. Let's hope we dont get any injuries until the summer as the bench is already looking a bit threadbare.

Henderson has a two year contract. No reason why he’d leave this summer.

You forgot KLP. It's the strongest squad we've ever had without question. I think we could have 30 internationals and Magic would still be after a couple of creative midfielders. We don't need anyone else. Simples!

I'd grant you "slight concern", but "really worried" is ridiculous melodrama - pull yourself together man. And when on earth will Messers Benham, Giles et al actually earn your trust

Agree Mr Tree well over the top, we are not going down, but we are 7th and after this set of fixtures we have a good run of games. I felt a players that could booster the squad starting 11 could have helped. I dont want the season to fall flat because of a couple of injuries as the squad is very thin now. Apologies for the previous comment.

🤝 no worries at all. I'm a little surprised we haven't bolstered the midfield, but hey, maybe they think Luka Bentt is the next big thing. And maybe there was just noone available who they fancied.

I was out at 7:00pm. Can anyone confirm if the window slammed shut? Or was it a gentle closing?

Absolute b***ocks. The Piccadilly was suspended between Hounslow Central and Heathrow at that time. Signal failure at Hatton Cross. Not one tube came through the half I was stood at Hounslow East and the station was then shut.

Raheem Sterling on a train when he probably has a different G Wagon for each day of the week is quite amusing.

Seems like a pretty quiet window all round with Palace the biggest net spenders at £58m and 5 clubs not spending or receiving a penny including some of the usual big hitters , Chelsea , Liverpool and Man Utd , no wonder Skys usual deadline day show was such a damp squib !
We were 7th biggest net spenders at £7.7m so further signs we are a big club even at such low amounts !!
The Times quotes us as spending £8.7m (Furo) and receiving £1m ? No idea where they get the £1m from could be nonsense but maybe a loan fee ? Didn’t think we got any for Peart Harris ?
Hard to believe we are ‘selling’ a player for £1m and I’m not sure who the money is for !!? Remember the day when we sold DJ Campbell for £750k and it practically saved the club ! It just doesn’t seem that long ago !!!

Norwich City have paid an undisclosed fee to Premier League club Brentford for midfielder Paris Maghoma.

Yeah, the idea that RS wants to bring his family up in or near London, so that he can use the Tube! Could be thought of as insensitive given his holdup/kidnap/robbery dramas of the past few years.

Straying into politics, but, Schengen (which I agree we weren’t part of) is not the same as freedom of movement.

Pre Brexit an EU passport holder did not need a visa to relocate for work within the UK (and vice versa), whereas now they do. However if the person earns enough (and pays a chunky fee) then getting a 3/5 year skilled person visa isn’t too tricky.
Ok. Thanks. Noted.

But we (Brits) used to be able to live in Spain, Portugal etc now only 90 days in 180. (The reason I now own in South Africa)

I think this has been a good window. Obviously as fans we always want to see signings but January is not the best time . Instead we've off loaded a few players who wont make it and loaned out a fair few who need game time and should be in the picture for first team action next year. The departures allow B team players to step up or at least the paths are there.
I get this all potentially leaves us a bit thin on the ground for the here and now but it feels like a window with next year in mind. Clear the decks, allow some players to go off and develop. I'd suggest even with injuries our first team squad is stronger in depth that is was two seasons ago.
I appreciate PG and MB call the shots on recruitment and who comes in but this all feels to me like Keith moulding the squad into what he wants and its started by clearing the decks a bit.

I think KA will be very happy. Sad to see Paris go but MPH and the loanees were never going to get much time on the pitch while taking up time and space on the training pitch and team meetings that can now be devoted to a much leaner group of regular starters.

Is it disclosed then, come in spill the beans.
I think it would be a stretch to interpret "disclosed but only to banana" as "disclosed" rather than "undisclosed" in the context of a journalist's headline.

Given that, its deducible from the premises

1. Norwich did sign Paris Maghoma from Brentford.
2. It is not true that Norwich paid an undisclosed fee
3. The fee was not disclosed.

that Norwich signed Paris maghoma from Brentford but did not pay a fee

It really isn't, at all. You are never happy unless you are worrying about something that isn't worrying.

None of the players leaving are anywhere near the first team, we have loads of cover, far more quality cover than we have had in the last 5 years. The lack of incomings is 100% fine, giving youngsters yet to get a minute in the first team out on loan for games a and then Frank who simply isn't good enough is absolutely fine. We don't need cover for any of those.

The thing with squad depth after this cull is everyone who's left we know is good enough (with the exception of Furo who just got here), and many of them are good enough in multiple positions. So in the event of an injury crisis we know we'll be relying on good players instead of making do with players who aren't at the level. There's gonna be no equivalent to when we had to go for long periods relying on the ghoddosses and roerslevs and onyekas of this world (appreciated as their contributions are) as before, because we have multiple players of starting quality in every position who can be moved around safely in the knowledge that their position will be filled by someone of near equal quality.

For example, let's say we have an injury crisis at Right back, Hickey and Kayode both out. Instead of relying on a Roerslev or a ghoddos or canos like we might have done in our first few seasons, maybe now we move Ajer to right back. We don't have to worry about this, because he used to start for us there and we know SVDB is more than capable of filling his spot. Now let's say we need to substitute Ajer. Ok, Sepp moves to RB and Pinnock, who also used to start for us, comes in. Maybe he's lost a yard of pace but he's a top pro and can definitely be trusted to see out a game. But maybe we want to play too high a line for Pinnock to be a safe option, so maybe Janelt moves to LCB, which we know he's capable of, and Hendo moves into Janelt's spot. But oh no! Now Yarmo needs to come off too! Not a problem, Jensen joins Hendo in the double pivot. If Jensen was playing RM, replace with Dango. If Jensen was playing AM, replace with Damsgaard. If Damsgaard had started on the left cos schades banned, replace with KLP. If Damsgaards had another bloody baby, congrats Romelle here's your chance at the 10. You almost can't go wrong because every man on the pitch will be someone we know we can depend on no matter how you slice it.

It also keeps the many top players we do have happy because we're almost forced to play them all for as many minutes as possible, and it keeps the kids who aren't quite good enough yet developing; and what a brilliant bunch of moves we've got them! One in each of the old firm, 2 in the championship, one in the 2. Bundesliga, we've got as yet un-promoted b teamers playing in leagues 1 and 2, one of them even plays in the Belgian first division and starts for Nigeria!

If it were up to me would we maybe have a bit of an upgrade on Pinnock and nelson, and another athletic ball winning 6/8 to deputise for Yarmo? Sure, why not, if we've got the budget. But the people who know best clearly didn't feel it was all that necessary, at least not enough to make any deals we wouldn't have made anyway. And I just can't fathom bed-wetting about it when we're 7th and have the most premier league quality players in a squad we've ever had.

And you never know, maybe this Luka bentt, or some other kid in the b team or academy, is the absolute b***ocks and we'll only ever learn this because there's enough daylight poking through the canopy for them to grow now.

/Rant

A well-constructed rant highlighting the very essence of why we have done so well over recent times. It is the players’ versatility that help us achieve results, sometimes unexpectedly, that you do not see in many other PL teams. These results are only achieved by intelligent people understanding what they have been asked to do and also doing it without any fuss and nonsense. Even the three players you have mentioned, in particular, have this talent even if their skills were not quite at the level we have now reached and all did the task they were called upon to do.

The amount of due diligence that the recruiting team do to attract and bring highly-skilled players to the club is, simply, second to none and as we extend our time in the PL then we can only benefit from enhancing the talent pool.

Much is spoken and written about the club’s motto; togetherness, but if your team doesn’t have it then you are missing a very important element when trying to reach your end goals.
