Hamer & Bennett

As Bennett has now returned to Reading, does this mean his ban for 1 game will be Reading's match this weekend (FA Cup) or Reading's next league match? Or is he 'banned' from playing 1 game for Brentford?

http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/Disciplinary/SuspensionLists/ it has Elder here, and surprisingly Montague for a 3 match ban too!

http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/Disciplinary/SuspensionLists/PendingPlayers.htm Bennett is here under 'pending', banned from 4/1/09 until Brentford complete 1 game. But wil this also include Reading?

Cup tied.

Him bieng cup tied is irrelevant.

Reading play Saturday - the ban doesn't kick in until Sunday, whoever he is registered to he cannot play for on the weekend of Jan 10.

......................good news......................

Hamer & Bennett

Is this a case of seeing whether he can get a transfer to either us or someone else on the last day of the window?

Hamer & Bennett

Not sure of the loan rules - what does this mean if we want to extend him again at the end of January. Is there a limit to how many loan spells a player can have with one club in a season?

The half full glass view could be that we should know whether we have freed up enough money to keep him ourselves by then.

Hamer & Bennett

I think it means all parties keep their options open for a month. From Bennett's point of view, he keeps playing and can see if anyone else comes in for him. For the club, we have him for another month, while we see if we can get other players off the books and negotiate a longer-term deal for him

Hamer & Bennett

Gives us a bit more chance to shift the dead wood.

If I understand it correctly.........

We can sign him for a half season up until 5pm on February 2 - when the transfer window closes.

If we extend for another month at that point the maximum is three months (from today) in total.

Hamer & Bennett

My bet is that Bennett wants a permanent move and Reading want him off their wage bill but we can't commit to that financially at the moment - or might not want to.

The player is looking at being unemployed in five months time so he wants security that it doesn't appear a club can offer at the moment.

Reading would rather he left now but would probably settle for losing some of his wages until May and we can probably stomach what we are paying now but can't pay more in wages with our current budget. An extra four weeks allows all parties to have a look at things.

BTW - this is just my guess, I have no concrete information and excpect abee to correct anything that is wrong :)

Hamer & Bennett

The positive aspect of this is that by committing himself for another month when he had made it clear that he didn't want another long-term loan and if what WEB says above is correct, I'd be surprised if he would be content to find himself without a club at the end of March (after 3 months loan) when the loan window will have closed again - this suggests that this is very much an interim arrangement for both player and club.

Hamer & Bennett

Well i suppose a month is better than nothing,But i think we would all agree that we wanted a bit more this.
This does worry me a little that this probably means we havn't got the cash to keep him,but maybe just some biding time until we off load some one to compensate?....:fishing:

Hamer & Bennett

the problem we seem to have is we cant offload people, pead for one

Hamer & Bennett

What about a straight swap with Pead and Brown for Hamer and Bennett I am sure Coppell would jump at that:idea::idea::rolleyes::crazy1:

My guess is that a month's loan works for all parties. Bennett keeps himself in the shop window for the whole of the transfer window; Reading have more opportunity to offload someone not in their plans; and Brentford get to keep Bennett for another month with the possibility/probability of being able to loan him for the rest of the season come the end of the transfer window (that is if he hasn't been sold to anyone else at the close of the window).

Hamer & Bennett

I wonder if this extra months loan gives extra time for Hull to sell Turner (money from the sell on) so we can buy hime before end of January?

Hamer & Bennett

Agree that this is buying time for all concerned. I think there is a good chance he will be here for the rest of the season.

Hamer & Bennett

A little disappointed that the new loan is only for a month. However, it might just be in the interest of all concerned, so that options are left open. Nevertheless, if we lose him at the end of January, then it will be a big blow to our promotion hopes.

Reading Fan

To be honest as a long standing Reading supporter I suspect you will still have both at the end of the season. Bennett never really fitted here and has no future whatsoever with the Royals. Forget what you read elseware, he will either sign for you on a perm basis for an 'undisclosed fee' (minimal) at the end of the window if you won't take the chance on losing him or on a 'free' at the end - IF he doesn't end up elsewhere first. As for Hamer? Sorry but he is highly thought of here and won't be allowed to go. With USA about to become second choice (and so back to Seattle - as always stated) and Feds the new number one Hamer will fight it out with Anderson (and win) to become the next number 2....and he won't want to leave if we're back in the prem.

Hamer & Bennett

Sorry but he IS one for the future. Still raw, still very young and still prone to the odd 'coc&-up'. He could certainly be one for a season long loan next year though if we keep up the same sort of relationship.

Hamer & Bennett

Thanks Dave,if we can keep both to the end of the season it would be great.Lets get out of this poxy league and look for a new keeper in the close season.

I didnt read this properley. If Ben goes back and is number one in your stiffs fighting for number one in the first team,it would make sense for both clubs for us to take Anderson on a long loan.

i would've thought most of that 'income' will be used for the summer months and next seasons budget. If a transfer came off for Turner. Can''t see it though myself.

Good to see Bennett sign for the month, i'm with WEB on this one, lets see.

Hamer & Bennett

If the new loan is registered to start from Saturday 10th Jan, would Bennett be able to play at Lincoln as Reading are playing on Friday night?

I think Friday noon is the deadline to play for Saturday.

Hamer & Bennett

I am happy to see Bennett sign for another month but what does this mean as for the rest of the season, I genuinely hope it means we have a month to negotiate signing him on a permanent basis or at least till the end of the season.

I don't think it's a disaster if we don't get him for the rest of the season but if we are looking at Promotion in terms of the top 3 we need players of Bennett's quality. I personally think without Bennett or any other loaned deffenders we have enough to get in the play-off's but I want us to push for the Title!

We have a few injured players to return yet and if they can make anysort of impact (e.g. from the bench) we do have some reasonably strong back-up for the current starting line up.

I would also like us to keep Bowditch on loan for the rest of the season, I would think a few of you may disagree with me?!? but I personally think he's done ok and will hopefully get better as the season goes on. Assuming Scotty can't get a young Gem on loan from Arsenal, Tottenham etc I would think we won't get much better than Bowditch up front on loan.

Any comment on the above welcome.

Up the Bee's!

I agree totally, I really hope he stays - he looks to have quality with an ability to bring others into the game and players like that are not easy to find at this level.

I think Bennett's signing is crucial though - I don't think either James Wilson or Mark Phillips would have settled in so readily without Bennett's presence alongside them.

I would love to see a few new arrivals too because I believe - although this may be controversial to say - that as many as eight of the current squad could be lost without any detrimental impact. The likes of Simon Brown, Craig Pead, Darius Charles, Damien Scannell, Eric Odihambo, Ross Montague, Seb Brown and Moses Ademola (possibly out on loan?) could all be classed as surplus to requirements, in my opinion.

However, with the new home-grown player rule next season, I wonder if players such as Seb Brown, Darius Charles and Ross Montague will be retained simply in order to comply with the new regulations?

The home grown rule doesn't apply to Brentford only, they just have to be registered with a "home" club(s) for 3 years prior to playing for us I think.

Apart from perhaps Bennett I think the whole squad must qualify.

Not sure we could do with a back up goalkeeper to be honest:rolleyes:

Hamer & Bennett

QPR are looking for a 'story teller' to pass on what the Directors want the fans to know, can we loan or sell them Larry Signy? ;) :D

Moving both Brown's would leave us with Hamer as No 1 with Lloyd Anderson as cover unless we get another keeper in as bench warmer. Personally I would think there are more pressing areas in need of loan cover

I agree.

I don't think Lloyd is quite ready for the No2 keeper position yet but, with Andy's connections, and the helpful emergency loan rules I don't think it's a priority area for cover for what will hopefully be no more than a game or two during the rest of the season.

Hamer & Bennett

Hamer will be here for the rest of the season and then be back in Readings squad for next season. Bennett is available, he and the club have covered themselves for the Month, presumably Bennett can talk to other clubs and fix himself a deal if need be in January. I think AS knows this and will probably be looking at another Defender on Loan (Wilson?) to cover the rest of the season. I think Bennett has stated he feels he should be playing at a higher level and if an offer comes along that suits him he will put his career First before Brentford, If he does not get an offer then he could stay with us for the rest of the season. The other factor is I should think he is asking for more money than Brentford can afford.

Village idiot gets internet access..........

One month loan to cover the Jan transfer window?Does that mean no other club can try to sign him on perm during that time?Otherwise we're just keeping him in the limelight to get signed else where.I reckon this has been sorted by the grown ups at BFC and RFC and we can now relax until the end of the season.

Hamer & Bennett

his loan ends Jan 29th, transfer window ends Feb 2nd at 5pm. So theoretically he can move on to someone else!

The other way of looking at it is AS has targets in that position but in case they don't come off he needs cover and if they don't come off Bennett re-signs at the end of the window.

BTW I don't know of any targets just putting another spin on things

OK Everybody bar one. Sir Steve of Coppell used to say that after 10 games you get an idea of how you compare to everybody else. After 22 games have we got 2.2 times as much idea?

If so I say we compare pretty damn well at the moment

Isn't it a change for a player to actually WANT to play for the super bees!

Glenn Poole and Alan Connell said much the same thing in newpaper interviews....in fact, you'd be hard pressed to find a Bees player in recent history saying "I don't want to play for Brentford" in the local press.
