Watching in a bar in Belgium. Just chatting to one of the patrons. Apparently he had a heavy collision with a team mate and his knee seemed to flex unnaturally if I’m understanding what is being said. He’s on the bench now with his knee in a protective brace. ?

Let’s hope it’s strained ligaments not the acl…

Can you get something showing the injury? I'm with Patto, he wouldn't be sitting there if it was serious... probably just knows he's done for the next few weeks i.e. rest of this season

I don’t want to put a downer on it (and I haven’t seen the incident), but I remember Rico walking off the field at Newcastle when I expected him to be on a stretcher - so we will just have to wait and see what the scans show, etc. Fingers crossed that it isn’t as bad as it seems.

They’re top of the league on goal difference, he’s got 2 games left at the club, 1 of those being this weekend away at Anderlecht who are 2nd. It may well just be fear of missing that and potentially losing the title.

I'd be surprised if he was sat on the bench if it was an ACL injury. I'd expect him to be fully rested with ice packs back in the treatment room. Unless Bruges don't care about him now that's he played his last game for 'em!

Nobody will know the extent of an injury like that until the initial swelling has gone down and the appropriate scans undertaken.

Not watching but Please God, no professional football team is going to make a player they suspect may have an ACL injury sit on the bench for most of the game ?

To be fair when I did mine in I then went in goal for the rest of match!!
Lets just wait and see but I wouldn’t rule anything out yet.

Hopefully he's just got a knock and we've got nothing to worry about, but there's not an awful lot you can do about torn ACLs for a good few days after.

They're fairly uncomfortable but not hugely painful unless there are other bits of the leg that are injured at the same time. I remember seeing Wilson partially rupture his for Bournemouth years ago - maybe against Stoke? - before coming back on the pitch after treatment and it fully going pop!

A grade 2 (moderate) MCL tear generally takes four to six weeks to heal with treatment. A grade 3 (severe) MCL tear can take six weeks or more to heal with treatment."

I refuse to believe that he can ascertain what the injury is from a quick view at pitchside. If he can then perhaps we should sign him as Head of Players' Health.

Thanks to my just now brush up on ligaments an MCL would almost certainly be a lot better with a much shorter recovery time ranging from a few weeks to a few months.

I suspect they suspect it due to his ability to walk without too much pain. Whichever one it is he will be out for the rest of their season hence the tears. ?

Well "we do not know whether he can play in the last two games" is about as positive an update as we can expect tonight.

About 20 years ago when I was still refereeing on the National League, I went skiing. During a moment when I suffered a significant ability versus enthusiasm deficit, I had a major high-speed wipeout and substantially damaged my medial ligament. I went to a clinic that evening where they diagnosed it pretty much straight away from the swelling and the source of the pain. Once back home, I went to a specialist who told me I had a significant tear. I remember him saying that if I was a professional sportsman, they would probably do surgery but that actually it would heal on its own pretty well if left untouched, which is exactly what happened. I had (from memory), 6 to 8 weeks where I really couldn’t put any stress on the joint , but could up my training again after that and ended up getting back to exactly where I was with no further problems with the knee in 3-4 months. Anyway, I guess what I’m saying and @grepo would probably have much more knowledge than me, is that a damaged medial is generally a decent result if compared with a torn acl.

Surely he will have to undergo a medical before joining as did Nusa, I imagine if it is a bad injury we won't be paying the full price or we won't see him at all.
