Join Bees United?

I can't "stay" Mads as I am no longer a member and haven't been for about 18 months now.

I suspect that having our ownership and direction in the hands of amateurs will ultimately leave us with an amateur club, however well meaning they are. This is the direction I feel we have been headed under BU and as yet I see no grounds to change my opinion.

Who exactly would qualify as "professionals"?

Join Bees United?

Didn't we have a "proffessional" who was highly paid,in the name of Dickson, but since he has left the "amateurs" appear to be doing one hell of a better job, and perhaps we very seldom give them the credit they deserve.

Join Bees United?

so how does one go about standing for BU board then?

I presume you mean Dickens not Dickson? Unless of course your are referring to our attacking left wing-back!

Dickens' appointment was one of the BU "triumphs" to which my anger is directed.

Blame the BFC board - not the BU one.

If you are a member, then packs will be sent out around September time. Please come forward. The board is always looking for fresh blood and I think there will be at least three open vacancies this time around.

That would presumably be the BFC board appointed under the ownership of BU? I blame the parent (company)!

You've mentioned this type of thing before. The BFC board reports to its shareholders (normally) once per year at the AGM and not Bees United.

I'm not directing blame but if you're not joining BU due to Dickens, you're barking up the wrong tree.

any chance of some extra info on time demands and so on?

I think you're looking at 10-15 hours a month, not including attending board meetings, which usually happen on a monthly basis.

It also depends on how involved you want to get.

Join Bees United?

and that time, is that just work, or hours actually being in meetings, out and about etc?

sorry to go on.

It's a combination of factors. It could be debating online with your fellow board members, or general administrative tasks. Reading papers or proposals in order to make a decision prior to meetings are important and time-consuming too.

Board meetings tend to last around 3 hours. It's a steep learning curve but if you want to see the club improve I feel it's well worth it.

Join Bees United?

and how difficult is it to get elected? do people need to like you?

Join Bees United?

actually forget that last one... i can guess... ;)

The last few postings make interesting reading, and is it possible to expand further on the actual responsibilities that you you touched upon Mark. Would it also be preferable to be located within close proximity to Brentford?

Join Bees United?

The opener to this thread is join Bees United. My question is WHY?

I have just looked at the clubs website about joining a supporters club, this refers me to BIAS and after this to Bees United. Have gone through the links to get to Bees United, I really wonder why I should join. I have no wish to get involved in the running of the club in any shape or form. I am interested in supporting them, which I do by attending matches, buying programmes Etc. and chucking loose change into a collection bucket after the match.
It would be good to join a supporters club which will give something, not much in return ie. priority booking for big match tickets, earling warning of great offers, events, promotions Etc. a loyalty card, a nice little Bees holder to keep the card in, like oyster card holders...something that is easy to join, not something that I have to trawl through several websites for. By offering some little trinkets of branded stuff will also help to raise the profile of the club. just a thought, but what do I know?

Good post Rosie. Bees United is the majority shareholder in Brentford FC, and as such is committed to the long-term future of the football club. Bees United is not a supporters club or association, but a governance body. It's important that all Bees fan remember this distinction.

You can elect members of the board, and indeed elect/re-elect Bees United nominees to the BFC board. I think Greg Dyke is up for re-election this November so if you are a paid-up member you can boot him out if you so wish!

I think what you would really like is a club membership, but I don't think BFC do this. However, if you join Bees United you will receive priority booking if there is a big match at Griffin Park.

Join Bees United?

You also get a nice membership card if you join BU. But nothing to put it in, I'm afraid.

Bees United is the community of Bees fans, through which we own the majority of the shares in the football club. As Mark says, if you join, you get to vote on who should be controlling the future of the club.

i sent my applications (mine and my sons) off 4 weeks ago, cheque not banked, no membership correspondance either. do i have to contact Bruce Powell? or can i complain on here markbfc? :fishing:

I just signed up to BU again. Mostly on the basis that the people that are hostile to BU on this site sound like borderline paranoid schizophrenics.

b***ocks, too late to edit

I have no issue with people criticising BU but some of it is just pure mentalism.

Mind, having said that, I just paid 30 quid to have me and the missus sign up and it took my money off my paypal account but didn't quite have the courtesy to ask my name and address, just flicked me back to the homepage  so **** knows who they think just joined lol :sorted:

Joined bees united paying by paypal. Literally logged into paypal and clicked "proceed" and that was it. Just wondering, obviously I joined to help the club, but I also joined for the benefits i.e. Quicker tickets, cheaper travel etc. At no point I have entered any of my details so how do I prove my memebership? And how do they know who I am?

All I can think of is if they get my information from my billing address?

Any info would be great. Cheers

I thought it would be the case, but I double checked and it was confirmed:

For paypal applications a membership card and letter are sent to the applicants address as shown on the paypal form, so as with all other members you will have a membership card to prove your membership. You would normally get an email back to let you know the application has been received and that a letter is in the post.

If that doesn't come through soon then get in touch and we'll find out what has happened.

Thanks for joining! :)

Thought it was about time I joined BU as well- least I can do from afar.
Would be great to do a push so all GPG members are also BU members... Perhaps on joining the GPG, you are given the option of joining BU?
'Be part of your club - join Bees United and use the GPG all for the price of a BU membership!'
;)

Worth a try, surely?

I'm going to do my bit and join Bees United.

Just have a quick question. As an adult its £15 to join. I'd rather do a £10 a month donation. Is is £15 per month to join, or a one off £15?

you can do either

Membership is a minimum of £15 a year ehich can be made in a one off payment or your can do as you suggest, which is eevn better and set up a standing order

Agree totally with this.I did the same last week and reckon the current £15 membership fee is fantastic, but won't give AS much money to spend next season, so why not do what I have done(if it can be afforded of course) and set up a monthly direct debit for say £10 a month. It's no good moaning next season if we haven't the resources to buy or get loan players in if we are not putting our money where our mouths are is it?

yeah i'm going to do the £10 a month, better for the club

Are there any other takers for this, or is everyone happy with the £15 per year or free with your season ticket? Otherwise, why bother having a thread re who we want AS to sign, if he can only realy rely on Mathew Benham coming up with even more money.

I think your enthusiasm and encouragement in this respect should be applauded.
Perhaps, in addition, or instead of extra monthly contributions, some folk may wish to send in single extra amounts.
Perhaps a BU official can tell us the best way to do this, and where to send it etc.

it's not 'free with your season ticket', you can take £15 off the ST price if you don't want to join.

I wonder, out of the 1700/1800 or so REB ST's sold, who didn't agree to pay the £300 and instead opted to pay £285?

Even if you know it means nothing without knowing the reasons why. e.g. already a member etc.

true, but it'll be interesting to know, some are probably life time members, some are juniors, some have SO's, etc. maybe this could've been a question alonside the -£15 bit in the form? but then again how many would bother to say why?

I give up !!

maybe we should do a Larry Signy and donate the difference in what we're saving......

Nana has a point. I took the £15.00 off both mine & my missus' season tickets but only because I do a monthly SO.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll try and recap the idea from the Beesotted site on here later. It's only a small amount - but I think it's a good idea, to tell those in charge at BFC that we appreciate all the good work they are doing.

Anyone know why I can't sign up with BU online at the moment? Is it a technical problem? Or something sinister and evil designed to prevent me from having any say about any potential ownership changes at the football club I love? :toomanyamphetaminesasateenagersmiley:

Your solution is a simple one...

lure Royal Oak Bee into a debate, in which he makes an outlandish claim about Andy Scott being the next Ipswich boss...

........ask him to back up his claims with a financial bet, to the tune of £30

.....................then instruct him to pay BU, as part of your membership renewal

Surely this is an achievable task for a nun of your powers...:sorted:
