Reading have finally given Stam the boot.

Bugger they might survive now.

Personally I'd like them to survive as their ground is the closest one to me and we've picked up all 3 points on my last 3 visits there!

Couple of people mentioning Dean Smith on their forum - like he would go there! Bargepole springs to mind

MW was also asked if he was interested in the Reading job whilst on SSN earlier. He gave the typical “wouldn’t be appropriate to talk about it when Stam has just lost his job” type response.

So he's interested then?

Didn't mind applying for other jobs when he already had one though.

Doubt MWs stock is high enough to put him in the frame for another Championship job. Suspect he'd need to drop to League 1 for his next opportunity.

Not sure about that, I think Reading is a pretty decent fit for MW.

................yep..........they need a Plan B...............

He was rubbish in the remake of The Sweeney...

To be fair, couldn't do worse than Stam though.

It was a good film, only problem was they shouldn't have called the main characters Regan and Carter because they were nothing like the originals in appearance or character.

James Corden gone from Charlton having handed notice in 3 times this week. Oxford job on horizon?

Let's hope he has proved that he's all hype and without funds he's not as good as he thinks he is. One decent season with MK Dons when he broke the bank and paid stupid money to League 1 players including Alan Smith. Once he had his wings clipped he's produced very average teams and seems to have lost his swagger, he just blames everybody else, fat, lying, bin dipper.

KR actually hasn’t done a bad job at Charlton. They have a very thin squad and the current owner has been very sparse with the money for signings as well as being somewhat eccentric in running the club. They have been using their youth players to fill the squad. He has done well to get them into play off contention but it is no surprise they have drifted off recently. It is a club in absolute turmoil like Blackpool.

Bowyer and Jackson to lead Charlton forward as Robinson leaves by mutual consent.

Managerial Changes Thread 2017 / 2018

Oxford were liked to Sven, Patrick Kluivert, Mike Bassett etc, now they are linked to Alan Stubbs and Karl Robinson, KR is probably the best name mentioned but another mental owner throwing around "sexy" names.

Oxford by all accounts

15 to 1 on

Stanley, I'm biased as hate the bloke but concede he's a decent coach and tries to play good football. I still think we broke him that game when we came back from 0-3 to draw, he went from applauding us, cupping his ear
and laughing at the James Corden reference to calling for us to be thrown out by the time it got to 3-3.
I know he's got form for calling out GPGers and bottling it more than once and lying about being hit with a full pint glass.
I also recall him cuddling BWP like a paedo while he was waiting to go on for us, presumably because his stepdad was in a coaching role for them.
He's also gone from being a smart, fit young coach to a bitter, moaning, fat, scouse div who thinks he should be managing in the Premier League.

Maybe he just needs some counselling????

Might need the Sonofabee Consultancy Services special "Cruel to be kind physical " session. It's proved very effective but only for those who survive it!

Stam took them to a play off final last year,he was presumably a fine, young manager less than 12 months ago?

But the whole of the Championship knew that was a false position for them.

Where they are now is a bit more realistic.

Managerial Changes Thread 2017 / 2018

So the table does lie then? lol lol

My Reading supporting friend thought it did. He couldn’t believe they made the play offs and predicted relegation this season lol

He sounds like a D+G man who’d fit in well with the ER, predicting relegation after losing out on promotion at Wembley lol lol lol

I personally have no idea about Stam.

But it is hardly unusual for a new manager to take over a team which was basically sound and benefit from that for 12 or 18 months, before his shortcomings come to the fore and the club starts to slide.

Alternatively, a (good) manager can come into a club which on the face of it is doing ok, but has problems beneath the surface. Then he gets sacked after 12 or 18 months, i.e. before his methods have had a chance to take hold.

Then a new manager comes in and reaps the benefit, leading everyone to say he's brilliant.

Maybe Stam fell into the first category?

Basically Reading had an incredible season when everything went well last season. Now the luck has turned.

Their match stats are pretty identical from last season to this. What has changed is their luck.

They somehow managed to get over the line time after time last year mainly helped by a goalkeeper in incredible form. Now things have reverted to the mean.

Managerial Changes Thread 2017 / 2018

I still have nightmares about the Coppell season so very happy for Reading to struggle and end up in league 1.

Because he was a great Number 2 to Ancelotti ???
