Marcel Eger

this could be a cracking signing....

Marcel Eger

Can't wait for a good cup run and an anthem led by ME.

Marcel Eger

I'd say mid to lower championship, but most German teams play hard, fast and get the ball down.

Imagine, a centre back that can play us out of defence rather than hoof it. Now that's exciting! Might mean Charlie gets a chance to receive the ball on thr ground

Marcel Eger

It was said he didn't play much last year but looked as if he was in the side that took them up.

Just seen he likes drums. Terrible signing ;) :fishing:

just checked - started 4 games last season for them and came on another 3 times as sub.

Marcel Eger

Feckin hell! My Hamburg based cousin speaks highly of this chap! :bound:

Could be another Hermann H (all be it older)!

Uwe. Uwe Uwe! :sorted:

Marcel Eger

This one caught us all on the hop. We are obviously conditioned to think in terms of potential signings from our Leagues but Uwe has brought a new dimension. I'm looking forward to a Norwegian midfield playmaker and at least one striker from Norway or Germany.

Marcel Eger

Well seeing as I am a half a Hamburger - I am very pleased with this signing! May tempt me to more games next season :-)

I agree, it's exciting being a Bees fan again, who knows if the new players we're acquiring will cut it but glad we're being different and looking overseas.

Marcel Eger

Cant help feeling that the recent odds of 33/1 are going to look stupid next season. Happy days ahead.

This one must be good-he's played in the Bundesliga which trumps League 1 I reckon ! He looks tall-anyone know his stats?

Yeah, but Dale Jennings was playing League 1 football at the very team Logan had a loan spell at.....
And he is off to a better team in the Bundesliga - Bayern Munich. Is Jennings really that good? or is the league not very good anymore that the level of players they are buying now are Championship/League 1 level? If the latter, then maybe not an improvement, more an addition.

Though, to be honest, im looking forward to seeing him, and the rest of his signings next season. Lets bring on the season!

Marcel Eger

Must CB be one on the way, maybe Pim. I can't believe we will have four "first team" CBs again....KO and Legge are too good for that and Pim will not want another season on the bench.

Jennings showed great potential and its not as if he will jump straight into there first 11!! I wouldnt expect him to get anywhere there starting 11 for a couple if not 3 years.

German football is very much played similar to the english game and would argue it comes closer to our style of football than any other European big league.

Marcel Eger

Get rid of MkCraken and replace with this fella, how our ambitions are changing. Very exciting signing. Well done everyone involved. Seems a smart move to make him captain.

The difference is that this guy has played at that level and Jennings has yet to show that his perceived potential is justified. Not so long ago the likes of Keegan, Jennings ,Beardsley , Bowles etc were bought by our First division clubs from the third and fourth divisions. It didn't mean the First division was poor. They bought potential. Maybe the Germans are prepared to invest in potential instead of paying ridiculous transfer fees and wages. If Jennings makes it, then our Premiership teams will look like mugs. But you're right-we must wait and see.

Marcel Eger

Is Jennings really that good?
He's only 18, I think. I doubt that he'll get that many starts but he's obviously got potential.

Marcel Eger

Bit worried that this would mean one of Karleigh or Leon being off as i presume he would be looking for a starting position. If that doesn't happen then we have 4 centre backs of the highest calibre :)

I can't see us keeping 4 so suspect 1 will leave, just hope we get a decent fee if it's KO or Leon.

Marcel Eger

I'm aware Charlton have put in a bid for KO, would be a shame for him to go now after finally being at the club when things are going well and the fans have taken to him.

It's a possibility. If they offer big bucks to us and a large wage increase to him, he'll go. After all, he needs to earn just like all of us. At the end of next season he can walk for nothing if I'm correct.

I went to the Tranmere away game last season and Jennings was the most exciting young player I've seen in this division for a very long time. Could be the bargain of the summer at half a million. Reminds me a bit of Messi the way he runs at and destroys defenders. Wish he was ours.

Anyway back to thread and an interesting signing. We certainly seem to be thinking outside the box now. A bit surprised that the first 2 signings are defenders and makes me wonder if Leon is off to Charlton.

Think you're right he walks next year but hope he stays. I think he'll develop with a leader and good communicator alongside and command a better salary.
If not hope we only let him go if it's a really good offer.

St Pauli are my German team, went over to Hamburg to see them last year, great ground, crazy friendly fans. Shame they went down.
I'll try and get on to their fans forum and text the lads over there to whip up some interest in us.

My Bundesliga team is Kaiserslautern. Die Rote Teufel.
St. Pauli 8-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich was when they were already relegated. St. Pauli were okay until about January, then they fell away. It's not like they were no hopers. He's played there for four seasons, so he would have been part of some of their promotion sides also.

Have they? How are you aware of this?

SSN and a couple of weekend newspapers reported that Charlton had made a bid but nothing since. Hope it's speculation but gut feeling is one of the current centre backs will be off.

Marcel Eger

But didn't Uwe say after McCracken departed, that no other squad member will be leaving this close season? Or have I misunderstood....again?

Wellcomen Marcel!

Does this mean goodbye Leon/Karleigh/Pim/Kev?

St Pauli are the foreign team I always look out for, a top club. Was in Hamburg last year when they won promotion to the Bundesliga, great atmosphere. Hope a friendly next summer is part of the deal.

Really like this signing. A bit of experience in the back line for the youngsters to feed off. St Pauli fans seem to love him, say he always gives 100%

I think he meant players being released ie deadwood. If a good deal is made then i suspect players may stilll leave.

I think there was a caveat...... can't remember but IIR unless we got offers we couldn't refuse

Marcel Eger

Sounds like a fascinating signing. Rosler's connections abroad might prove crucial in locating value, and this guys seems like he has a pedigree.

Marcel Eger

if he is a captain, then good. we do NEED a confident, bossy captain...

Marcel Eger

Again, quite excited about this one. As others are saying, the potential with leadership quality and promotion experience could be really valuable. Been waiting for a reason to follow St Pauli due to their good political ethos - now there is a link!

Whilst I accept KO may leave us, I don't understand people saying 'we can't have 4 CB's'? Surely having 4CB's is ideal, with youth/development to fill in if we have real injury problems? Just can't figure out why we would be happy with only 3 first team CB's? Is this the 'small-team' mentality we still need to shake off?

no it's about getting the most out of the wage budget-how often will both first choice centre backs be injured at the same time? Very rarely.

And if they are, that's what the development squad and loans are for.

At the end of the day, if we have a choice between a 4th centre back, or adressing a more pressing part of the squad, I know what I would choose!

I don't think it's the best use of resource, we're better off than we were before MB but we're stlll a small club with gates of less than 6000.

Marcel Eger

Interesting signing. Over the past few years, or so, his previous club have been in and out of the top league. However, if he has been there for around four years then he is better than most you will see in League 1. Could be interesting times ahead and I am now really looking forward to who else will join Uwe management team. Also now awaiting a good creative midfielder and hopefully a 25 goal a year striker.

What about suspensions?

New song for Eger?
‎"You are my Eger, my Marcel Eger, you make me happy when skies are grey - we could have Nesta, but he's a ****er, so never send my Eger away!"
Made me laugh.
