Must be reasons we're not privvy to that strakosha isn't being trusted. Maybe a part of it is that it's a bigger commitment to bench a keeper than say a midfielder, takes time for a keeper to build trust and gel with his defenders. But if strakosha was the keeper we thought he was when we bought him I'm doubtful we'd have bought flekken at all let alone that he'd last this long on such bad form. Something's got to give eventually, can't have a big 5 league number one on the bench for the statistical worst shot stopper in the league forever.

I'm also hoping that having toney to ping it to will unlock an element of flekken's game we haven't been able to fully appreciate so far, and that'll boost his confidence and the fans get behind him and performances improve in a virtuous cycle. Frankly that's the last hope I have left for him.
What is this "such bad form" comment all about????

Yeah statistically he should be doing better but I'm going to go out on a limb and say IMO I don't think there's much he could of done in the last 6-7 games apart from claiming a cross. If that's bad form then fek me.

Our defence needs to start owning our lack our clean sheets.

Brighton not at fault for any goal
Villa not at fault for any goal
Arsenal not at fault for the goal
Luton maybe could of got a hand to it. Maybe
Wolves yes he should have claimed the cross
Sheffield Utd not at fault

Where's the bad form?

What mistakes did he make in those games that werent linked to goals? None from memory.

Our defence are leaving him wide open at times.

I gave him a bit of a bashing earlier, it is the ponderous way he passes to defenders and in return they pass back.
I was always taught to move the ball forward, it is for midfield to make themselves available for the pass and then the forwards to do the same.
We were very good at the passing ball in the championship, not sure why that has gone?
Our game seems to be very slow from keeper to midfield and then relies on the breakaway via KLP, Bryan etc.
We don't need a keeper and 3/4 defenders pushing the ball to each other and then wacking it for the chase, bypassing midfield in the process.
The ponderous play seems to be a new fashion for keepers - if nothing is open, slow the game down and wait for the opposition to react. I'm waiting for complete stalemate - opposition doesn't move, keeper doesn't kick, we all get our phones out or pop to the loo.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

The problem for us fans is that so far whilst exceptional with ball at his feet he’s failed to inspire otherwise but I believe that he’s more than doing the job he was bought for where the overwhelming priority was distribution.

I'm sorry but Flekken purchase was a mistake, it's a shame but when you look at the recruitment over the last few years which has been magnificent we were due a bad one. However, I have total faith in TF and MB plus the crew to right it. If so many of us agree that the keeper is not up to it and we're right then the manager, owner etc will certainly be aware of it and I'm certain they'll rectify the situation soon. After following the Bees for 70 years this is the best owner and set up I've ever seen, have faith in these people

It's to open up the space when the opposition is pressing high.
It's the new fashion ATM with a high risk but imo a very low % of a high reward .had he or any of them just battered it they wouldn't have scored their third goal and effectively killed the game

You could argue that our predictability led Hwang to gamble and caused our second as well.

I think the management team tracked Flekkin for number of seasons it's not a mistake. They'll stick with him and rightly so. Hasn't done nearly as much wrong as some like yourself are claiming.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

TBH I find Flekken an ok keeper, no top four team or Real Madrid are gonna come begging for him, he's at a team who's league position reflects his ability, I would like to see Strakosha have a few starts
Well, Strakosha will play against Wolves next week, and then hopefully get a few more starts on our inevitable march to Wembley!

but very slowly...

and not just the GK - all the players who aren't performing.

Forest and Luton and Bournemouth have given their head coaches far more players to pick from and ring the changes.

Have you noticed the length of our “players unavailable” list?

You are of course entitled to your opinion but i'm sorry he's simply not good enough. It's not about mistakes, top keepers totally dominate the six yard box and he doesn't look at the Wolves goals, he wasn't to blame for any of them but stood on the line for one, never got near the ball for the second, not his fault but poor keeping nevertheless. Mark my words he will go and soon I hope

How many more players can we have to pick from given our injuries?
We cant have a squad of 40

He wasn’t to blame for any of the goals so not his fault but poor keeping nevertheless? I will have to have a good think about that one, yes a very good think.

"Mark my words he will go"
I think you have summed up every footballer ever....

Or that Collins made an absolute howler.
Absolutely. But Hwang beat the ball to the edge of our box because it’s not like he didn’t know what we were doing. It’s what we do. Predictably.

We were very good in the Championship but not now? Perhaps that may have something to do with a slight increase in the standard of opposition in the Premier League.
I said passing the ball, we are not passing it enough.
I do not buy into the excuses of waiting to see what the oppo do, our players should make themselves available for the pass.
More kick and chase at the moment and I totally understand difference in leagues having been a bee for near 64 years.
Anyway you have your opinion I will have mine.

I still cannot see what that has to do with Flekken.

I've seen enough , the 2nd goal take a couple of steps out to eze get in his eyesight, close the angle down , have a dive. But in the end like a lot of goals we've conceded this season , just rooted to the spot.
If Peter Bonetti was the cat this guy is the sloth

He either doesn't want to get his kit dirty or get injured diving.
Either way, I don't recall seeing a more pedestrian/static goal keeper.

Saves all the routine stuff but doesn’t wow me with anything else. Positionally he just looks flat footed. There’s no way this guy is an upgrade on Raya. Prove me wrong…

Why does he hold onto the ball for so long when he does make a save, everyone is running up to start an attack.

Don’t think anyone claimed he was an upgrade on Raya. He’s a middle of the road keeper, nothing more, nothing less. He’s not the reason we got hammered by Wolves and Palace.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

He’s not good enough for the Premier League, it’s plain and simple. Could he have done better with the goals today? maybe, maybe not but he doesn’t command his box, reactions are poor and he will not come for a cross. Doubt we will look to replace in January but if we do manage to stay up, We have to move him on and get someone better in.

All these negative posters also going on to blast Wissa for another sitter? Didn't think so.

I thought that was the club ethos. We only buy equivalent or better or we don’t buy at all.
He’s not the reason we’ve lost recent games but he doesn’t help the situation.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Not hanging the bloke and he's currently got a make shift shell shocked defence in front of him but he always looks slow and not particularly agile in his footwork & shot stopping.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Serious question, how many saves has he made this season that you wouldn’t expect a keeper to make? I can’t think of many…

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Nothing Flekken can do about today's goals, he caught and punched a couple of crosses, made several saves, yet again he's the one getting blamed.

If you're going to criticise him, at least pick some tangible errors. The most predictable scapegoating week on week you'll ever see.

The defence clearly have no faith him. A decent keeper makes saves that he isn’t favourite for. The third goal today was a prime example. Will he get hammered for not saving it? No, but a decent keeper on form gets to it. He doesn’t command his box, very poor reactions and like another poster had said, when can you recall a top save that he’s made? I can’t think of a single one. He’s been here six months! He’s at the very bottom of the expected saved stats with a -6 x saves ratio. Saying he’s anything other than having a poor season isn’t telling the truth.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

wish he catches the ball more but prefers to punch it usually back into danger and the starfish reaction, hopefully comes good. now strakosha has his chance to take the number 1 jersey at wolves.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Never saves anything low….ive had enough of this bloke …enough ?
Not as frustrating as Simon Moore getting confused were he was messing his angles up and conceding at the near post repeatedly

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Would love it if he began saving more shots than he concedes. We're so so easy to score goals against.

Pinnock whacking the ball into touch late in the game instead of trusting Flekken to come out and claim it says a lot. The defenders don't trust him and I can see why.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Thought he had a decent game. Pulled off some good saves, good distribution as usual and came out well to punch a dangerous cross into the area.

Would any other keeper saved any of the goals? Maybe one of the few at the highest level …..or maybe not.
