take the tinted glasses off, he doesn’t read this forum, stop protecting his feelings and the decision of the scouting / sporting director.

Keeping the ball out of your net firstly, presumably distribution second ?.What are the most important attributes of a keeper in this new world of pressing football?
I can think of one very good one against Palace at home and a great follow up block but apart from that I am struggling. He did come for a couple of crosses today and did a decent punch under pressure. The problem with the goals he is conceding at the moment is that they are very big chances and in fairness he probably could not stop any but by being so static, we will never know. It is not a good look but it has been the same since the first couple of minutes of his debut against Fulham in America.Serious question, how many saves has he made this season that you wouldn’t expect a keeper to make? I can’t think of many…
I know what you mean, but unfortunately the trap lots of football experts have fallen into is that a goalie good with his feet is ahead of a goal good with his hands. What are the most important attributes of a keeper in this new world of pressing football?
See, this is where modern football disagrees with you.I know what you mean, but unfortunately the trap lots of football experts have fallen into is that a goalie good with his feet is ahead of a goal good with his hands.
you need a balance (Allison, Ederson) but you don’t need extremes (Onana, Flekken) , let’s find good goalies FIRST good passers SECOND.
Well, let’s agree to disagree, to save a shot on goal is more effective than to chip the ball to the wide players in my opinionSee, this is where modern football disagrees with you.
An 11th footballer on the pitch is far more important than someone that can occasionally pull off a 1974 Banks save.
Anyone can save 90% of shots on target.Well, let’s agree to disagree, to save a shot on goal is more effective than to chip the ball to the wide players in my opinion
It was 1970. By 1974 Banks only had one eye.See, this is where modern football disagrees with you.

Flekken can'tAnyone can save 90% of shots on target.
Blimey there’s some vulnerability out there today … Saman at AFCON, Banksy in 1974… and this is the guy who is convincing everyone we will stay up because xG says soIt was 1970. By 1974 Banks only had one eye.
That's why I said 1974.It was 1970. By 1974 Banks only had one eye.
He would have been a perfect fit for Gillingham ..,It was 1970. By 1974 Banks only had one eye.
So he couldn’t save anything then? That's why I said 1974.
He stood no chance of getting that cross!First goal today, the ball comes into the six yard box to where the forward is finishing it from close range at the far post.
Surely a good goalkeeper is reading that situation and coming to claim (or punch) the ball?
Of course it is very rare to see Strakosha punch a cross as opposed to catching the ball.wish he catches the ball more but prefers to punch it usually back into danger and the starfish reaction, hopefully comes good. now strakosha has his chance to take the number 1 jersey at wolves.
You would be better advised directing your criticism of Flekken towards Thomas Frank. On the other hand it probably won’t be long before the Flekken detractors will begin to focus their hatred of Flekken in the direction of Thomas Frank himself. Who will be the first to cast the first stone?Strakosha deserves to play the cup game, and if he plays well he should get the opportunity to start vs Forest. Flekken’s not a kid learning his trade, he’s 30 years old in the prime of his career and has been here 6 months now.
The clips from 4.20 here show that he would have a chance if he was prepared to try and dominate his six yard box. We used to have a goalkeeper who would go for balls outside of the six yard box!He stood no chance of getting that cross!

wolves had 4 shots on target 4 goalsAnyone can save 90% of shots on target.
Surely you can't be putting 3 of those on Flekken?wolves had 4 shots on target 4 goals
did i say that ?the previous poster said anyone can save 90% of shots on targetSurely you can't be putting 3 of those on Flekken?
Of course it is very rare to see Strakosha punch a cross as opposed to catching the ball.
Because it came into the six yard box where in my view he should be attempting to dominate. It wasn't way over his head when it got to the back post. I have seen a previous goalkeeper claim harder crosses. If we have to disagree then I am very fine with that too.@W13 Bee You might laugh but please tell me how a dominant keeper would have dealt with a cross way over his head beyond the far post. I don't get it I'm afraid. It's the full back and left centre back's job surely?
I'll have to watch it back but my sense is no keeper is getting that cross so it's down to the left back to make sure the winger doesn't get on it.Because it came into the six yard box where in my view he should be attempting to dominate. One and a half, two and a half to CollinsSurely you can't be putting 3 of those on Flekken?
Sounds like you are ? No one else has ?You would be better advised directing your criticism of Flekken towards Thomas Frank. How dare come on here, and besmirch our No. 2 goalkeeper!Or pushing the ball straight out in front of him for a forward to tap in...(Man Utd away anybody ?)
One occasion today he came out, when there was no real danger, and it seemed easier to catch the ball, but chose to punch it, and it went straight to a Palace player.wish he catches the ball more but prefers to punch it usually back into danger
I can think of one punch, but he was under no pressure, seemed easier to catch it, and it went straight to a Palace player. He did come for a couple of crosses today and did a decent punch under pressure.
He claimed 3 decent crosses today but dint let facts get in your way ?He’s not good enough for the Premier League, it’s plain and simple. Could he have done better with the goals today? maybe, maybe not but he doesn’t command his box, reactions are poor and he will not come for a cross. Doubt we will look to replace in January but if we do manage to stay up, We have to move him on and get someone better in.
As Roy Keane would say "That's his job."He claimed 3 decent crosses today but dint let facts get in your way ?
Then people can't moan that he doesn't when he clearly did his job todayAs Roy Keane would say "That's his job."
We're not talking about Banks-esque saves (which was 1970 btw) but simply saves that top keepers should be making.See, this is where modern football disagrees with you.

Perhaps we're not appreciating which are the more important skills for a keeper? The guy is elite level with the ball at his feet. But shot stopping and commanding his box I think he is League One.
I get what you're saying, but where do you draw the line? You could stick Janelt in goal and we'd obviously be stronger at playing out from the back. There has to be a minimum level of competence at the fundamentals and, from what I've seen, he falls short of that for a PL goalkeeper.Perhaps we're not appreciating which are the more important skills for a keeper?
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the moment near end of match where Flekken could have straight caught the ball but *shock* let it bounce first before holding it...One occasion today he came out, when there was no real danger, and it seemed easier to catch the ball, but chose to punch it, and it went straight to a Palace player.
I will always try and be supportive of all Brentford players, but enough is enough for me now. He doesn't command his area, doesn't come for crosses, can't catch even the basic of crosses, under no pressure, can only make the most basic of saves, doesn't even dive for some.
Strakosha would probably have been given the gloves against Wolves anyway, but he deserves a decent run in the team.
What happens if that doesn't work?
God only knows.
No, he's not that good.I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. He is David Button MK 2.
We've had worse keepers than Clark Masters.Blokes on par with Clarke Masters
Wouldn't it have been a corner anyway? The one thing I didn’t like about him today was when Pinnock thundered that back pass, which surely Flekken saw was going past the post, and yet he put it out for a corner. I know ‘better safe than sorry’ and all that, but a keeper usually knows to the nth degree where his posts are, and I wouldn’t expect a keeper to lose his bearings like that.
