good point and a fair one would have thought brentford would be a better footballing side with Wilson in it though but then football is all about opinions its a petty things could not have been handled in a better way though

Recently, we've had Leon Legge proving that he has a head for the long ball punts; we've got Bennett fit again and on the bench, Phillips back in training and Osborne in the stands. If we can secure Pim for a little longer, then Wilson is surplus to requirements. He was diabolical against Wycombe, paired up on the right with Karleigh. We need cover at right back and it's better to get a right back to do that. If we can secure Pim, then he and Phillips has got to be our best pairing, except when we're expecting an aerial bombardment.

"could not" or "could"?

My view is that I would've played Wilson in every game in his time at the club but then I just turn up every other Saturday so obviously don't have the same insight as a manager. For what it's worth, I would have loved to have seen him here permanently and therefore hope he goes on to have a good career.

diabolical is a bit harsh I thought he had a poor game but so did the other 10

wilson has been sent back to bristol surplus to requirments

James Wilson has been with Bristol City this week as he is carrying an injury and they are taking a look at the problem. He has not been sent back as surplus to requirements.

Andy Scott refers to the injury in his interview on the official website :

Andy Scott said:
James Wilson picked up a strain in his gluteal area so we are monitoring his progress as well.

:imwith:

Accept he is injured at the mo but I don't agree with him having been left out several times recently. Too good for that.

Hope it doesn't turn out to be another Simon Cox scenario .

I would love to see us sign him, then he and Legge can become the best central defenders in Div 3 :sorted:

I hope we can get him out on loan. Love to say the same about Karleigh too but he is our only cover at right back

Mark Phillips

phillips saying he wants a loan move is admiting he isnt good enough for the first team. he could stay and fight for a place. he doesnt think thats a fight he can win.

Bit of a harsh judgement IMHO. Hard to fight for a place when you can't get on the pitch. Better that he gets a few games under his belt in a loan spell

Not at all, after missing so much football in the last few years, obviously he wants to play. What lots of people seem to be forgetting is how good his performances were before the Exeter game. He played injured had his first poor game and went off with a bad injury at half time. Be more than happy with Mark coming back in should we pick up an injury.

Mark Phillips

Mark Phillips is a good ,solid player. One of the stars of last season IMHO. Admittedly he struggles with injuries, but when fit (and given a chance A.S.!) he is quality.

Mark Phillips

Have to move one of him or Bennett on as we are paying them for nothing at the moment, clearly Andy does not rate them as he continuously gets a loan in to partner Leon and you dont need 3 replacements for the first two choices and I'd keep Karleigh as he can also play RB and then you have Wood or Blake as a replacement LB

And where exactly did he say that?

I think you'll find that what he said is that he wants to play for Brentford and that he feels that he should be based on his performances before his injury, in training and in the reserve matches he has played. Going on loan is an option but the last one.

Maybe next time you should try reading the whole article and not just the attention grabbing, incorrect headline. :nono:

Mark Phillips was our best centre back before he got injured, I would be happy to see him and Legge as our 2 central defenders. IMO we have too many central defenders and if we have to loan out anyone I would send Osborne and Bennett out before MP :sorted:

Mark Phillips

...............will find it hard to regain his centre back spot at the moment.............patience maybe...............

Mark Phillips

I think that Phillips had a fine season in the 4th Division and also stayed fitter for longer than expected.

I also believe that that was his level and if we are to try and establish ourself as an upper midtable 3rd division team then he like several others from last year will not prove consistently good enough.

At his age he needs to play and better he finds another club and prove us/me wrong.

How many of us would prefer bennett and Phillips as our first chice pairing rather than Legge and Smith?

Not too many I suspect.

Mark Phillips

would prefer Mark Phillips to stay as cover and let AB go on loan, would free a fair bit of money up for the elusive striker we need!

You mean apart from Phillips and Bennett? :fishing:

But seriously friends, Phillips is an honest and decent lower league CB. Like quite a few in this current squad, he's more than good enough for League Two, but not quite good enough for the top half of League One. I like the guy and from what I've seen, think he's been an excellent pro for Brentford. He had to bide his time last season when Wilson came in, and then, when dropped for the return of Darren Powell, stepped back into the breach when Powell got himself stupidly sent off at Bournemouth. He could've sulked himself into oblivion, but Phillips came back, did a sterling job and was there to collect his championship medal. This season has again seen him plagued with injury and that is probably his biggest problem.

If he does move on, he should go with our thanks and best wishes.

Phillips has already played many games at this level comfortably for Millwall. He was also our best defender this season until he got injured.

It's all about opinions isn't it.

I think he was more than decent last season and average this season - which is not to say that he wasn't playing better than Bennett who was awful in the first half of the season.

I would be happy for him to be a squad player but do not think MP is good or fit enough to play in a team that has ambitions above and beyond mid table in our division.

I would go along with that, an extra yard of pace and he'd be fine

Mark Phillips

Cheers Mark. A very good defender. Shame about the injuries. I reckon we might be seeing him as an opposition player next season. Thanks for the injury time equaliser against Notts County and some excellent performances in the two seasons you were here.

Mark Phillips

Its a shame. He was excellent in our promotion season. Sorry to see him go.

Mark Phillips

always remembered by me for the injury time equaliser against Notts County when that **** Attwell tried everything in his powers to stop us

Mark Phillips

Good Luck Mark......Hope you find another club in League 1/2. You deserve it!

Mark Phillips

He should have no problem finding a club at this level, but Karleigh's recent performances (and lower wages) have probably swung it. He's had 2 very good seasons and will be remembered for the goal vs Notts County and performance at right-back at Elland Road. I'm sure he'll get a good reception as opposed to "Brentford reject" when we see him next at Griffin Park. Leon Legge to take his number 5 shirt?

Mark Phillips

....................good luck to Mark.....................

Mark Phillips

Very best of luck Mark

Mark Phillips

Yes - 100% behind the above. I think if we were a richer club he would have been kept as second-string, but we simply cannot afford the luxury of cover for every position.

Mark Phillips

Good luck to him.

Would have been a reasonable 3rd or 4th choice CB, but injury record may count against anyone who won't be first choice

Mark Phillips

:imwith: to all the above.

Some real gutsy performances in the last couple of seasons. Good luck to you, Mark.

Mark Phillips

:imwith: Best of luck to Mark, was our best defender early season until Exeter away. Sad to see him leave, but understandable with the form of Leon and karleigh

Mark Phillips

Very best of luck Mark . You helped get this club back on its feet again !

Mark Phillips

Good luck fella and thanks for your form at the start of this season when others struggled to make the grade

Unless we have some great signings on the horizon I think this is short sighted and may bite us in the arse.

Legge has been great but still fairly inexperienced. Karleigh is hit and miss but hopefully can continue his recent form. Bennett...well unless his time at Wycombe has transformed him, is not particularly reliable in this division. So without some solid experience coming in, I think this is going to be a great loss and hope we don't live to regret it.
