I think it's a great move by BFC. Mark knows the team inside out, and no doubt he has the full respect of the players. Like others on here I wish him well and every success.

Someone said earlier on that MW is MB's brother-in-law. Successful business people take a massive risk in appointing relatives and friends into important jobs. They don't become successful by employing people who aren't up to the job and if they do, they don't stay that way. The real cost of failure by an employee you have an important personal relationship with is far higher than where the employee is a stranger - if they fail, you can also lose an important relationship. I doubt that after all MB has put into building the club up, securing planning permission for LR and investing in a squad that not only is capable of winning promotion but of competing at a higher level when it does, he'd lightly put that at risk to appoint someone who didn't to him show a clear likelihood of continuing that progress. While MB is very wealthy, he's not an Abramovich and the sums he has spent on BFC are not insignificant to him.

It doesn't really matter that MW never played professional football, neither has the current England manager. If he'd been appointed by another club as manager, that would have been risky for them, but he knows the players and the set up at BFC.

As a previous manager used to say, keep the faith.

Mark Warburton

good luck MW.....lets hope we can finally get out of this division this season.....lets bleedin hope so......youve got the full support of all bees

So now you speak for EVERYONE? Your arrogance is astonishing. Give it 2 weeks and you'll be calling for his head.

Good luck Mark, u bees

Warburton played in the conference for a number of years, whilst also in the States, and I was under the impression that he'd been coaching throughout - meaning that his coaching experience is extensive. On top of that, I also understand he has professional management experience whilst working for a number of the investment banks too - which can only be helpful.

A backroom staff of Warburton, McParland, Kernaghan and Farrell is excellent, and is certainly experienced and talented enough to get us promoted. Would like to see a bit of the fee we received for Uwe going in to securing a player or two in the transfer window (loan transfer or otherwise).

Looking forward to supporting Warburton now :sorted:

Mark Warburton

This strikes me as eminently sensible. We are on a good run. Warbuton knows the players and how we have been set up. So, there is a strong argument that continuity is what we need right now. Hope it works.

Agreed. Uwe who?

Mark Warburton

a positive move.

good luck, mw, and well done to the owner on a decisive move rather than going through a disruptive recruitment process again at this time.

onwards and upwards....

ps and yes, i did suggest him days ago! and he wasn't even on the poll's list! :-)

Mark Warburton

So - the question is, will a Warbs/McParland management team bring us better fortunes than a Rosler/Warbs management team?

I'm hopeful, and in many ways its nice to not be part of the usual manager merry go round that most other clubs seem to be on. Got my Preston tickets - hoping we batter them.

Mark Warburton

Alright - I'll buy into this despite my reservations. Really pleased with the DoF and interested to see if their are any coaching changes as well.

Mark Warburton

Very pleased with this appointment, makes sense.
Good luck Warbs.
In Sir Benham we trust!

Mark Warburton

As corporal jones would say" don't panic captain manwaring".
Jonesy would never tell Capt. Mainwaring what to do. At least not without asking his Permission first.

Anyhow, a very interesting appointment. It is certainly a very rational one in terms of Continuity and Familiarity etc, and it's good not having to wait for another couple of weeks, say, but I'm not sure about the "for at least six months" bit.

This is a young team, which I don't suppose is given to rebelliousness etc. Nonetheless, if players, their Families and Agents are unsure about their long-term situation, then that can be unsettling. Also, any prospective new signings in January could be forgiven for hesitating over signing a permanent Contract for someone who may no longer be their Boss in a few months.

It will certainly be a test of MW's man-management skills, but I'm sure everyone connected with the club is right behind him and as I've said elsewhere, his and MB's record re Recruitment has been excellent so far, so we must trust they're on the right track here, too. :sorted:

Mark Warburton

I wasn't bothered when i heard that Uwe had gone.Nice bloke and all that but negative tacticaly. The fact that he had to be sat down by the team after Stevenage and be told how to manage which then coincided with our recent great run of form showed his philosophy of tinkering didn't work.

Now we hear that Uwe wanted to steal Mark from us and that says it all really.I've always thought that MW was the brains of the outfit and pretty sure that it's been MW that has sourced the vast majority of the players we've got in during Uwe's time with us.

I've never understood the insanity of taking an out of work manager from the merry go round of football failiure's and expecting good results so i'm really happy about this appointment and Frank McParland taking over as sporting director is just as exciting.

Mark Warburton

We should have known MB would have a plan.
No guarantee of success but reckon it's really good news.
Welcome Frank

Mark Warburton

I have to say, I was hoping for a more high profile appointment but having actually thought about it, this makes sense. with FM coming in as well, we have maintained the structure at the club.

MW certainly seems to be the brains behind the last few years and this is his squad of players as much as Uwe's so I can't see wholesale changes which is a positive for me and he get's my full support. someone else mentioned on here that they can't remember so much positivity around losing a manager. I hope that continues for the rest of the season and we can finally get out of this poxy division.

Good luck MW and FM. COYB

Mark Warburton

I imagine that to be entirely made-up newspaper talk; that sentence actually goes on to acknowledge Warburton to be Matthew's man.

I posted last week that there would be a rolling contingency plan and I guess this is it. McParland's departure from Liverpool meant an old colleague from the Watford days was on the market and probably has a similar philosophy to Matthew and Mark; the project is still on track.

Mark Warburton

The club appear to be keeping open its options. There is no way that the club will appoint a DoF until MB is sure that he wants MW to continue as manager on a permanent basis. This looks like an opportunity for MW to have a shot at first team management and see how he gets on.

I'm somewhat surprised at this announcement because I thought that one of the DoF's duties would be to find a new first team manager....
hehe

Agree to an extent but I'll give two examples of rebelliousness

1) That penalty
2) The whole Stevenage discussion

Mark Warburton

Seems to me that this keeps options open. MW has been a success (generally agreed, I think) as D of F, and could return to that role at the end of the season if that was felt to be the way forward. There will be time until then to monitor progress and make plans for all scenarios, whilst maintaining continuity in all sorts of ways.

All is positive to me - a high profile name might have worked or might not - this seems far less of a risk and a good plan to me.

Mark Warburton

... and a very cunning plan at that. Like it, like it a lot. Another move towards building a successful club.

Mark Warburton

Will be interesting to see how the team shapes up, suggestions are that the majority of the players brought in have been Warbs choice, particularly the youngsters, so they should react positively to this appointment

The older players like Sam etc who was brought in before MW might wonder what the future holds

His lack of football management does not worry me as currently he has 3 coaches and a highly respected DoF working with him to iron out any issues

By all accounts his preferred way if playing is pass and move and I have a suspicion we may move even further forward in our style from the Rosler days

Mark Warburton

I don't think Rosler would have taken us up. I have no idea if Warburton will.

Mark Warburton

We'll never know the first but we will find out about the second.

Mark Warburton

McParland isn't going to come cheap, maybe it has been used for him?

Mark Warburton

This is my feeling as well so don't think we have anything to lose. I think it would have been more play off heartache under Rosler so who knows, this could be the difference that gets us promoted

Mark Warburton

The appointments have to be seen together. Warburton because he knows the team and was involved in building it, Mac to keep the loanees and future players pipeline exciting. Stability combined with future planning. Does anyone know how much time he has been spending at training? That's what will determine the next crucial few games.

Mark Warburton

I wonder how much influence MW had when NF was in charge. We had quite a good win record with them 2, and Nicky hasn't exactly set the world on fire since. The squad was a lot weaker back then too.

Mark Warburton

For all of our sakes I hope this is a sensible appointment. Not excited about this like some are as if it goes tits up then what.Back upstairs or out the door?
One question needs an answer.

If MW is this good now then why not in 2011 when he was interviewed for the job ??

I'm thinking MW is just a stop gap, for now. To carry on with the recent successes we've had in the league under Uwe. Better for continuity at this point than a new face and all of his ideas. I would've thought that a more permanent appointment would be sorted out in the summer. It's a difficult situation (or it could be, as you and Les have put it) the club and owner have put themselves in. But we'll see soon enough.

I would hazard a guess that MB needed his input on Next
Gen that was still around and Frank Mac wasn't available.

Mark Warburton

I suspect MW will be less defensively minded than Uwe and and as said before other managers won't know his style, so I think we are in for some more exciting times ahead.

it appears all doors have been left open, both Mark and McParland's positions are until the end of the season. If we appoint a new Manager Warbs can go back to his Sporting Director role which is very good at and McP can move on. As far as I see it it's win-win.

Mark Warburton

I think this was the best option. It keeps the continuity going. If we had appointed a new manager he would have probably brought in his own backroom staff and may have changed the style and formation of the team, this may have all taken a couple of months for the players to adjust too and by that stage we may have been out of contention for automatic promotion.

That's the way I see it, although I don't see anything awkward about MB potentially saying to MW in the summer 'look, you've given the management lark a try, it's not worked out, why not step back upstairs as you are clearly a decent director of football, otherwise West Brom wouldn't have come sniffing, and an integral part of the set up here'. On the other hand, it may even work out. The most awkward moment I could forsee is if MW does a decent job but ultimately falls short of taking us up - stick or twist?

i thought i told you to "do one" cyber warrior king ??? pay attention at the back.....your stone is calling you

and anyway, if we lose the next 3 games i think you'll find that might be the general concensus anyway.....not that we will ;)

Mark Warburton

Stay on his side if things go pear-shaped.
This will be a nightmare appointment if the fans get on his back as he has worked wonders for this club and if we drive him out before the season is up I fear he may leave the club.
If we have a bad season but we leave him to it he'll be back where he belongs as sporting director for next year.
SO STAY OFF HIS BACK ( i'm talking to you new road ).

wtf ???
most negative post of the year by a million miles :(

i bet xmas is fun in your house lol lol

Mark Warburton

This might be the daftest comment ever on the gpg

But I think it would be beneficial if mw doesn't make a great start to his reign! That way he will get all mistakes out of the way sooner rather than later. We don't want us finishing the season on a downward spiral. The most important thing is to finish we'll not start well

Have to agree with you. The situation is certainly not of his making and we do not know if he asked MB or MB asked him and probably never will.
Succeed or fail he deserves support and gratitude for not jumping ship and for putting his own career on the line.
If it all goes tits up and I don't believe that it will there is only one person to blame and its not MB or MW
