If anyone can think of one good reason why we shouldn't refer to MW and FMP as 'Phil n Grant' - please say now. :thetruth: :mitchellbrotherssmillie:

Exactly what I was thinking. The Mitchell brothers, 10 years on!

Richard is almost too good to be true, intelligent, articulate and extremely likeable. Great role model for young pro footballers everywhere.

Quite right.Sadly some are as thick as a peice of 4 by 2 to listen and understand.

Mark Warburton

Don't know how many of you read or heard this but perhaps Uwe has already started to make plans to take our better players!

Think the attitude is spot on. MW seems to be saying there is no such thing as mates rates. MB probably didn't get where he is by selling things at cut price just to help a mate out. Being somewhat pragmatic I'm not sure UR would expect any favours.

The reality is that there is a chance that we could be rivals next year, do want to help rivals out? I don't think so.

If UR was just starting in management, in say, the Conference helping out with a few youth loans would be fine but not in this instance

If we only let players go under our own terms and for top prices, then why did we not apply this when Simon Moore went we didn't get
big money for him and it was all about not being able to stand in his way etc, why will this not apply in future?

Mark Warburton

Just heard him talking on Radio London and came across very well. Bright, positive, his own man and mentioned that of course he would say he has a good squad and wants to start off well and while taking nothing for granted as Oldham doing well he's confident.

Only my own opinion but I think we got a very good offer and decided we could replace and use the money to further strengthen in other positions?

That's not strictly true. The reason we've been able to attract the quality of young player we have is because we've made it quite clear that we'll not stand in their way if the right offer comes in. We obviously have a valuation of each player - as we did with Uwe - and if the interested party are willing to match that valuation then I assume we allow them to speak with the player in question. That doesn't mean we're giving our players away on the cheap though.

Quite right, and it's not done on trust anymore it's all contractural regarding release clauses ect.

Agree. We need to face reality; BIdwell, Foreshaw, Dean etc have signed for us in the understanding that they will be able to leave if a chance in the championship comes along. As long as they give their all while playing for us I think that's fair enough (Moore is a good example of that).

But in Benham we trust. He's bought in McParland who's had years of experience in identifying and bringing through youth players with real potential and he'll have a long list to work through. So we lose Adam and Harlee for £500k combined to Wigan and we bring in two talented young lads to replace.... And we keep with is model, bringing players in, making money on them and improving the team.

Mark Warburton

..............improving on Adam??????............that will take some doing.............

£500k combined?! Don't think we will be that generous

In my view the team is weaker without him, but that's just my view and I would have held onto him if I could unless we received a serious amount of money,
and I don't think we did, so why would we be any different with Adam Forshaw?

I think we may have got serious money for him. I said the money would allow us to spend to strengthen in other areas.
I get what you say about Adam, at the moment I think he's nigh on irreplaceable but I think Simon while a great keeper we can cope without - again just my opinion.

The Club received the fee that they wanted, although I realise whether it was enough is a matter of opinion. The same will apply to Adam and any of our other players who may attract interest from clubs higher up the football pyramid. It'd be a kick in the teeth to see anyone go, but unfortunately it's part and parcel of being a lower league club with promising youngsters.

Hopefully it will be a regular occurrence once the
academy starts and the talent starts rolling off the conveyor belt.
The whole idea is to become a sustainable, successful business and that in the mid term is by filling the 20K stadium in The Championship and beyond that who knows but we will always be a selling club, trusting that we'll keep developing players that bigger clubs are happy to pay us lots of money for.
Up until now we haven't and that's one of the reasons we're so reliant on Matthew.

Rosler can feck right off as far as I'm concerned.

We can't stop him or anyone coming in for our players unfortunately, as painful as it'd be to see any of them follow him to Wigan. I'd hope there weren't the funds to afford the likes of Adam tbh, nor do I know whether Uwe would have been privvy to their contractual arrangements.

Hopefully, seeing Simon Moore kicking his heels in Cardiff's reserves will persuade any of our youngsters that their immediate future would be better served by staying here anyway.

Yes, all good points, but if Rosler becomes a predator I expect us to do him no favours.

Mark Warburton

We attract players from other clubs as do all clubs. Wigan may want some of ours but we do the same. That is football.

And another point is that by writing into our players' contracts if the valuation of a club matches ours they can go as it is a good way of attracting players as it shows we will not stand in their way. Other young players seeing our good faith will favour joining us.

the team and club are in great shape with matthew and mark at the helm.

Mark has stamped his authority already and stated that any player Sold will AT OUR PRICE AND ON OUR TERMS and that's the way it should be, also why did we obtain players like Adam, Harley & Jake? it's probably because they might never make the grade in the Premiership, who knows, so why should Uwe come back for any, as he is looking to take Wigan back up, just a thought!, being very realistic Adam is probably the only one that MIGHT make a Premiership player.

We can attract good young players by giving them the chance to move on if a DECENT bid comes in, and that is a good policy, as already stated Simon is kicking his heals in the stiffs, albeit with more money, but some young players might be prefer to be in the shop window playing week in week out, (Take Marcello for instance, he has just been picked for the Italian U21 team!!).

We have to live with this player/manager/coaches movement in football, it’s the name of the game, it’s how you manage it that counts, and I have no worries that we will get stitched up over players transfers, like we have in the past, we are a well organised and run club now, as proved with the going of Uwe, and the seamless transition to Mark, make no mistake we are on the up.

Good luck Mark

Re the recently closed new manager thread, people on here really tickle me - "underwhelmed", "unimpressed" etc etc

Please point to one mistake MB has made in his dealings with the club. Even if this proves to be his first he can be forgiven and it certainly isn't a "cop out" or "massive risk". The guy understnads risk more than any of us but is no gambler. This will be a precentage decision which MB sees, on balance taking into account available options as well as MW credentials, working in our favour.

I do understand that Butcher was MB choice. I am happy with MW btw, but selecting managers are no easy breeze. Little luck is always useful too.

Was he Mr Benhams choice ?

I assume that Rosler will come for one or two of the current Bees squad in the January window.
We need to give him very short shrift indeed.

we are, and always have been, a selling club as are most clubs. the chelskis and mancities are the tiny minority. many moons ago i was devastated when we sold docherty, sinton, holdsworth and others.... but it is the name of the game. providing the price is right for the player concerned.

Don't you read what MB says or do you just choose not to believe him. We aint selling anyone one!

Mark's interview I think highlighted how he differs from Uwe. Softer tone , more empathetic to the players and acknowledging the role of the fans and the clubs obligation to them. Very nice touches. I always liked Uwe but felt he struggled to to be easy to warm to. MW looks and sounds a different approach and I really really hope he (us) is succesful. Good start . COYB

I agree with that, I think Warbs is a intelligent man. BFC IMO have made the right choice. This club know what they are doing, appointing someone new to the club might not have worked. Warbs know football, we have a team capable. I believe he is the right man for the job.

I really hope Mark gets us up into the Championship. His replies at the recent meeting with the supporters were probably the most sincere of any at the top table,
and his interviews on Bees Player are excellent. Also like his sense of humour at some of the replies he gives, and hope, that with Weir in place now, BFC will be
able to give a clean pair of heels to the remainder of L1 by this time next month.

I sincerely hope you're right, and believe you may well be, but we should not be blinded by MW and DW's obvious charm and integrity etc.

For football is littered with all-round Good Guys who couldn't cut it in Management - see eg Ray Wilkins or Gianfranco Zola - whilst any number of untrustworthy rogues have prospered.

I'm more inclined to put my faith in MB's private judgement of them, than how they appear to the rest of us in public.

Here's hoping :sorted:

There are also a good many quiet decent men of integrity that have been just as successful. Roy Hodgson, Arsene Wenger, are obvious examples.
Good guys don't always come last.

I note that you wisely avoided giving examples of the 'rogues'. Your libel lawyer is doing a good job

If you have so much faith in MB then you don't have to be blinded by charm and integrity.Whilst talking of those qualities where does Wilkins fit in?
