Available in certain parts of the ground,but not others.
You have to guess where and where not.
Why should buying a programme at a home game become so difficult ?

Queue 23 people deep at 13:58. I'd estimate it is moving much more slowly than last year (about 3x I'd suggest). Within two minutes someone has left; person behind moaning; junior has said 'is this the queue for the programmes?' in an incredulous voice.

The proof is in the pudding - completely disingenuous by the club. Just come out and say you don't want people buying programmes.

Programmes are available in the little North Stand Merch stall

Obviously nobody buying them, 'cos we've already queued up outside the South Stand

Can't understand why they don't want people to buy them?
Can't blame 'sustainability' when they seem happy enough for them to be given away (and mostly tossed aside) in the posh seats. Why must hoi polloi who want to pay for it suffer ?

No sellers at the station end of lionel road again, on in the middle, swamped. Luckily my son's friend got there early and got us one beforehand.

The West Stand has a new merch stall with a poor chap standing there and no business. I didn't see if it also offered programmes but surely it would be better if that was just a programme stall

Nope. The one in the pic was the one and only before hitting the South Stand where they was 1 seller with an impressive queue too

There was one by the tunnel for Kew Bridge station.
A fair size queue and the lad was trying his best to take payment and hand out programmes.
It is now much more difficult to buy a programme with no real reason why.
Someone did turn up to see how the lad was getting on.
So it stopped the progress.
Like I say he did his best.

What's the logic of moving to cashless? Seems to be delaying everything. Also the poor chap selling on the railway bridge couldn't see his screen so that slowed everything down. Miss the days you just wander up, get your programne quickly and you're set.

I think it's less the transition to
cashless and more about the absence of sales points. There has been a significant reduction in outlets over last season.

Tip for those in the Dug Out who are bored of playing hunt the programme seller: programmes are available from the small merchandise stall near the access to S103. You'd never know though unless you happened to spot the small pile tucked away at the counter.

It’s hard to understand the clubs thinking (as they haven’t felt it important enough to explain it!) but if they are trying to get fans to use the Merch outlets more, then they should simply communicate that programmes will be sold at every Merch outlet at the stadium. With no street sellers. The Merch outlets don’t have connection issues or sun glare issues. I have now bought my programme twice at the West Stand outlet (at about 1 hour before the game). Shortish queue (3-5 mins, 10 in line, two servers) and decided to buy the 3rd shirt as well (will get it personalised later at the superstore once the transfer window has shut !). It’s not an illogical thing to do, but the club need to respect the fans enough to explain what they are trying to achieve. We get enough commercial puff pieces from the club - why not a good article on an important change like this one surely is?

It's so some club staff don't have to do as much work. They also like it as matchday staff can't thieve. It's why you can't use cash inside the stadium. I don't advocate making all areas cash but there must be room for cash payments for food, drink, and merchandise, even if it's just one till.

I felt really sorry for him. He was having to open boxes, fill the roll on the machine with a sizeable queue. But the club was going to 'sort it' yesyerday.

I made a suggestion yesterday.
One person take payment.
One person sell programme.
One person talks the people in the queue to see if they like Blur or Oasis.
Walk up the queue to take payment.
One hands programme out.
If that's to difficult for the club then I will demonstrate it with my 14 year old and 7 year old.
My 7 years old will talk to the queue.

That is absolutely the point. Management should be supervising this key change “from the shop floor”. They are not. They seem to be treating the street sellers and the fans as experimental guinea-pigs. It’s a good thing the on-field operation is not run in such a crack-handed and “unobserved“ way.

They are trying to run it in house to make more money and now realising it’s not as easy as they think. It takes real organisation. One quick win is putting sellers on commission. I’ve no idea if that currently happens, but they desperately need more bodies on the ground.

Is this stall outside the ground in the North Stand, or you mean once you are in the ground in the main concourse where all bars are etc?

Rebus, (in my view) the number of bodies needs increasing if and only if they want to persist with street selling.

At the moment they seem to have half a strategy that’s not working. There seem to be 2 objectives: (1) increase selling at the Merch outlets (2) convert street sellers to cashless. Would be pretty sure that objective (2) is the problem, and actually works against objective (1). Fans surely just want short queues and cashless that works. Getting rid of street sellers would achieve this.

However getting rid of street sellers may not be what the club and fans want.

The Bees Store had programmes. I went in to buy Greville Waterman's latest book and was asked at the paypoint whether I wanted a programme, but I'd already bought one from the spot outside the ticket office on my walk from the station to the store. Mind you I arrived early having travelled by train from East Devon.

- Invest in/programme the pdq machines to £4, so they don’t have to key in price every time
- have flexible programme sellers who can be recalled/repurposed in the sales are slow
- I like the commission idea
- sell at merch stalls/club shop (if not increasing vendors), but have a dedicated queue

Can they not have sellers in the stands before the match - maybe at the front up to half an hour before KO.

Still no sign of my Everton programme. This really is a poor service even accounting for the post strikes.

Simple - accept cash and the queues will go. Bought programmes in cash at every away game so far and it's only taken seconds. Each card payment takes about a minute, and that's why queues build up, however many or few sellers there are.

Does a receipt have to be printed out each time. Waste of paper and time.

Yes, for 3pm kickoffs it’s just about possible to get off the train at Kew Bridge at 2.20, get into the dugout bar area, and buy a programme, a drink and the vital pre-match samosas by 2.30 :)?? (that’s the closest i can get to a samosa emoji)
