MLB 2017

MLB 2017

It's remarkable how all MLB teams seem to do that with their attendances. I've been to Rogers Centre many times over the years when the stadium is half full and the announced attendance is at least 10-15000 higher than the number of spectators in attendance. I watched an afternoon game at Yankee Stadium earlier this year where there can't have been more than 10,000 there. Whole sections of the stadium were empty and yet the announced attendance was 38,000+!!

To what extent it's to do with ticket holders that haven't come to that particular game I'm not sure, maybe there are other reasons. Anyway, you can usually tell when a commentator is sceptical about the attendance figure as they will make a point of emphasising the 'announced' bit before giving out the figure.

Dodger Stadium used to announce two attendances.

Paid attendance and In the house attendance.

MLB 2017

After being swept at home by the Orioles, BoSox went to Canada with the broom....:sorted:
Oh, and Skankees lost a double-header to Indians....

MLB 2017

The once dominant Matt Harvey of the Mets gives up seven earned runs in two innings to the Astros on his comeback.
Bad. Very bad.
You get okay pitchers who have a stellar season and then revert back to average, but less common seems to be the ace pitcher who just loses his stuff and can't get it back.

It may be too early to judge, as he has had injury problems, but I wonder whether David Price may fall into that category?

Is it his first or second season in Boston?
Zach Greinke left the Dodgers for Arizona in free agency and had a poor first season, but this year he's showing his quality.
Players put up stellar numbers in the final year of their contract, sign a mega bucks deal as a free agent and then are often sh*t in the first year with their new team.

It's his second year. He signed for the Blue Jays in July 2015 and played the rest of that year for them (helping to them to their first postseason appearance since 1993!), before moving over to Boston for the 2016 season. He had a very rocky start last year before improving, but this year has been rough for him all round.

MLB 2017

Dodgers are in free fall but still have a 12,5 game lead in the NL West.

MLB 2017

The Astros reinvigorated themselves by trading for Justin Verlander. The Detroit Tigers are in full on rebuild mode, having also sent out outfielder Justin Upton to the LA Angels. The Angels are now in the AL wildcard race after a good August.

In the NL, the Diamondbacks have opened up a gap between themselves and the Rockies. A powerful offense and capable pitching, good outside bet for the World Series.

MLB 2017

Dodgers have now lost 8 in a row and 12 of their last 13, coupled with the Diamonbacks wining 13 in a row, their wining streak was snapped last night in a 10-6 loss to the Padres.

MLB 2017

I've not been on here recently, seeing as The Dodgers have now lost 9 in a row and 14 of 15.

The D'Backs having gone on a tear have now lost two, meaning LA's lead is 10 and the magic number is 11.

Cleveland are on an unbelievable run of 17 straight wins.

Giancarlo Stanton now has 54 HR's.

19 in a row now for Cleveland! 1 more to match Oakland's record, which was memorably documented in the film Moneyball.

Of course, Cleveland have already had a film made about themselves. Whether another instalment of Major League will be shot remains to be seen!

Hopefully not.

The second one was awful.

MLB 2017

If you're a Dodger's fan, look at it like this: at least they're tanking in the first half of September, it can't go on forever, so maybe they get back on track in time for the play-offs.

The Washington Nationals, who have been consistently good through the season, bullpen excepted, have clinched the NL East with three weeks to go. They're generally crap in the play-offs, so maybe this will be their season.

MLB 2017

There's no stopping The Cleveland Indians at the moment.

Just won their 21st straight game.

MLB 2017

Win #22.
Not without hassle.
Four to go, to tie the all-time record of 26, NY Giants in 1916.
And yep, good old Tito is there.

They left this one a bit late.

Tied it in the bottom of the ninth and won it in the tenth.

MLB 2017

Massive series for the Cubs against the Cardinals starting tonight.

Cubs have a 3 game lead over both Brewers & St Louis -fairly similar to last weekend when the Cubs played the Brewers and lost 0-3.

Game starts at 7:10pm on BT ESPN tonight. :sorted: Should be a cracker.

Could be a fruity atmosphere, there's no love lost between St Louis and Chicago. In fact there are quite a lot of Cubs fans who travel to games from the St Louis area - I think the locals look upon them as we do the Manchester United supporters from Surrey.

Old John Lackey on the mound for Cubs.
Didn't knew he's still around, saw him @Fenway a number of years ago.
I fancy Cards tonight...

Turns out the Giants's record took place over 27 games, as in the middle of the streak they played a double-header, the second part of which was abandoned with the score tied at 1-1 and never resumed.

I pretty much hate anything to do with St. Louis or Missouri.
My least favourite US state.
Doubly annoying that the actor John Hamm, who is a really cool dude, hails from St Louis and is a Cardinals fan.

MLB 2017

All kicked off now. Cubs have had two thrown from the game. Terrible call at 2-2 against the pitcher batting a ball right down the middle called a ball. Goes 3-2. Next ball is an RBI single. All hell breaks loose. Lackey and Contreasas thrown. 2-1 down.

****s. Sake.

MLB 2017

Ha ha...all four wheels fell off.....8-2 now.

Guy at work went to Chicago a few weeks ago and was nice enough to buy me a cubs tee from the club shop. I've slept in it every since and we won all 3 put it on now and winning again. It might stink. But lucky shirt

MLB 2017

I'm at the Cubs v Cardinals game... and I've just dropped a catch in the crowd :(

Streak´s over.
Btw...strange game @Tropicana Field, BoSox scored 7 runs in the 15th!

MLB 2017

Didn't fancy going to the music festival we've come to Chicago for, so heading back to Wrigley Field again today. Hoping the animosity is still there.

Cubs beat The Cards 4-1 and now hold a 3.5 lead in the NLC.

MLB 2017

Houston clinch the AL West Division following a 7-1 win over the Seattle Mariners.

MLB 2017

Massive win for the Cubs last night @ the Brewers.

3-2 down, 2 outs in the 9th - man on 2nd, an RBI single by Baez takes it to 3-3. Bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, Wade Davis gets out of it. Top of the 10th, KB hits a 2 run HR we win 5-3.

4.5 ahead of Brewers and 5 ahead of the Cardinals with 10 to play.

Games left - 3 against Brewers and 4 against the Cardinals. (3 against reds)

6 more wins to guarantee post season!!!!!!!!!!!

LETS GOOOOOO

MLB 2017

Magic number just 1 now. Been on a really good roll at the right time.

Looks like it’s the Nats for us. Tbh I wouldn’t rule us out getting to the WS again. I would of feared the Dodgers but they’ve lost form at the worst time.

Let’s gooo

MLB 2017

Soon comes around again

I suppose The Dodgers will win the West again and then blowout in Post Season?
:

First part completed.

MLB 2017

Aaron Judge breaks Mark McGwire's record for most number of home runs by a rookie.
I genuinely hope it doesn't turn out he was on the illegal supplements as McGwire almost certainly was.

MLB 2017

AL Wild Card 99% certain to be Yankees v Twins, Twins I don't think have ever beaten Yankees in post-season, not in the past three decades.

NL Wild Card will be played in Phoenix, the Diamondbacks taking on either the Rockies, Brewers or Cards.

Five to six games to go in the regular season.

The Dodgers have reached 100 wins, but not so long ago they were on course to win as many as 115. The in-form side in the NL now are the Cubs.

MLB 2017

Probably belongs in the On This Day Thread, but looks ok in here.

1927, Babe Ruth becomes the first player to hit 60 HR's in a season.
1947, The World Series between the New York Yankees and the then Brooklyn Dodgers is the first one to be televised.
1972, Roberto Clemente records his 3,000 and final hit of his career.

MLB 2017

Yankees can still tie the Red Sox.
Both sides in action right now, Boston has a tricky series against the Astros.

MLB 2017

Yep, but BoSox lead 6-2 after 7.

I am the kiss of death to scorelines and such like. That's why I don't go on the prediction thread for Bees matches.

Anyway, Giancarlo Stanton currently on 59 home runs and Aaron Judge on 52.

Kimbrel just closed the bag.
6-3.
BoSox AL East champs.
I guess that means another series with the Astros?
