Gary Johnson for a proficient side likely to play a brand of football which would stand the scrutiny of television coverage

Martin Allen for passion and a touch of madness

Assuming they would both be fairly successful which one would get bums on seats?

I somehow doubt whether 'being a character' is on the board's job specifications

We all know what Martin Allen brings (Iffy tactics but the X factor that has the place buzzing and BFC in the limelight) but despite my missus saying she wants him back I am worried he would clash too much with the board and end up going again and now he has his new venture with DJ may not be as focused. For me Gary Johnson has the experience and knowhow to redirect this club the right way so he would get my vote. I worry a few "failed" name managers may put their hat in the ring and I hope the board are not swayed by names over substance. For me we should avoid the likes of Stimson,Parkinson,Dillon,Burley.

Personally rule out MA cos he left under a cloud (cant see the board wanting him back and that`s almost a given IMHO) and secondly his disastrous spell at Cheltenham. He had his time here, time to move on.

Knill at Bury well worth an enquiry IMHO.

Decent track record on mickey mouse budgets, feels unappreciated at Bury and recently said " if the fans dont like it i`ll quite happily rescue another club from the crap" (or words to that effect)

He`s from this neck of the woods and if he knew what our budget was...............?

Agree about Johnson; a strong candidate. -The board will get lots of applicants and a few are sure to be "names" (i.e. managed in Prem or Championship but with little success). Hope they don't get seduced by a name like they did with Butcher (who's CV looked patchy before he came to us but was ex England captain....)

Would still like us to go after Keith Hill.

We clearly want Johnson which is why Scott went today (they saw what happened at Sheff Wed and realised that they needed to make the move to get Johnson now). Would not be a bad appointment but I think Benham and the board should do all that they can to persuade Keith Hill to come south. He has taken a perenial underachieving Rochdale and given them belief, an exciting style of football and something for the fans to be proud about. He's young, ambitious and should be seen as along term prospect. Every manager has his price and if we're serious about pushing into the championship he could be exactly what we need.

I have to say I'm leaning more toward Keith Hill as well, but somehow I don't expect the board to make a push to extract him from his job when Gary Johnson is free of any ties.
I have anxieties that Gary Johnson...........oh, who cares if he can get us into the Championship!

But I think we should look beyond the usual names - he's done a cracking job with little money. Best team I've seen at GP this season.

Just think of Scott screamingt "feckin launch it!" to Legge and Pim, almost anyone is better than him. Johnson is a proper manager, who actually has formations- tactics. It's all good now. Thank the lord!

Well i don't rule out martin allen, cos he is better thamn the rest of them. and Gary johnson is overated. if we get him i will see you all when he is fired. cos if he is the best we can do **** off Bfc I'm finished with you. If allen does not get the gig, then thats the end for me, and thats a promise.

Wise was only good at Leeds while he had Gus Poyet as his assistant. He lost his way there once Poyet left.
At Millwall, yes, he got them to an FA Cup Final, but also signed overrated players on big/long contracts, it all went tits up.
I wouldn't want him here unless he has a sound coach under him, like Ray Wilkins.
They should at least ask Rochdale permission to interview Keith Hill.

Allen now at 2/1 on Skybet. His Tweet earlier said "We will just have to wait n see ! Can't say more. Won't say more." Which on reflection, could actually mean anything!

I can't help thinking that if Gary Johnson is interested, then his record speaks louder than Martin Allen's to the board.
Put it this way, I can't see Martin Allen being the board's first choice.

I'm inclined to agree with you there. Mind you, there will be a number of dark horses in the running and MB's statistical analysis to pour over. IMHO, Allen would be a poor choice on the pitch, regardless of his off-pitch antics. Could be a replacement for PG. though.
