New Manager Poll

i'd seriously consider whether i am still alive or have been sent down to hell if this happened. not sure i can think of a worse candidate.

I personally would not set foot in GP or give any money to BFC in any other capacity if Stimson was appointed.

New Manager Poll

Garry Johnson is Brentford through and through ;) Comes from Hammersmith (although that may be a tad too close to Rha Rha land), once had a trial with us, one brother was in the youth team/reserves and another bro Robbie played in the first team although I must admit not remembering much about him which could say a lot.

New Manager Poll

It's all positives pointing to Gary Johnson after he declared his interest, it's now up to the board to go get him. Personally, i didn't think we would have much of a chance. Would be very happy if we got him though.

New Manager Poll

And just to make it more complicated I will not go to GP if Allen is appointed.

It is a shame if people genuinely feel like that but you would hardly be missed as crowds went up season on season under MA, and at least it would be one less ticket to chase in those MA inspired FA Cup runs .........or is just GP that you would not go to?

New Manager Poll

Gary Johnson is apparently doing the Sky job for Monday nights game, it's a funny old game !!

New Manager Poll

The process will begin next week

Interesting if the club let us have a glimspe of the process.
Will it be a 3 man task force who draw up the candidates ?
What will the criteria be ?
Will we be looking at managers who are currently employed ?

I understand BIAS are asking such questions of the club - the clearer the process, the less fans will feel in the dark.

Lots of rumours flying about - I don't think anyone at the club should be focusing on anything except for Saturday and Monday at the moment.

To be fair, the Chronicle has been told a few things this week that turned out to be false so I'd be surprised if the process hadn't started on Wednesday.

New Manager Poll

He'll probably announce after the game that he's got the job then !!. I would still prefer MA to bring back the good times

Allen would not be good for the long term future of the club - I believe he'd be the worst choice. He left us in it when he went off to the Franchise (didn't he call them a fake club or something?). IMHO he started our downward spiral which Scott actually stopped.

Johnson, on that list who is realistic, is by far and away the best manager on that list.

From Bristol City fans:

"GJ is a superb motivator, and works wonders with players without egos. He brought in some superb people into this football club, all relatively unheard of and turned them into leading NPC players. (McCombe, Basso, Orr, Fontaine, Elliott etc). All players willing to work hard. The problems started when we had to move up a level and sign players maybe not in line with his thinking. Trundle for example. A big fee and big wages. GJ never seemed struggle a bit with money.

In Trundles book, he doesnt paint GJ in a good light atall. But GJ did absolute wonders here. Ridded of the drinking culture, assembled a promotion winning squad in 6 months that wanted the shirt. Created an unbelievable spirit around AG. The list goes on.

Gary Johnson would be a superb appointment for Brentford, and although it ended badly here for him, every City fan would wish him the best of luck."

"GJ would be a great appointment for Brentford."

Promotions

2002–03: Conference National Champion (promotion to Division Three) – Yeovil Town
2004–05: League Two Champion (promotion to League One) – Yeovil Town
2006–07: League One Runner Up (promotion to The Championship) – Bristol City

His work with Yeovil was excellent and prior to his last season at Bristol City. If we want a manager to get us to the Championship, Johnson is the man IMO.

New Manager Poll

Gary Johnson - without a shadow of doubt. If he's interested, get him in. No need to interview anyone else.

New Manager Poll

Does anyone know what AN Other's managerial record is like? Would be interested to know before I cast my vote.

Andy Sinton has achieved 14th/5th/2nd & 3rd with Fleet Town from 2005-2009 as they were moved around the regional football pyramid. Beazer S-West/Isthmian South etc. Took them to around 8/9 various cup finals and basically changed the mindset and aspirations of the club from when he took over as they had never before played at the level he took them to.

Was offered the AFC Telford job and they currently sit 3rd in Conf North with 2 defeats in 24 games.
Alftreton look a shoe in but I believe they just sold on some 6ft7 centre half who apparently could be some decent very football league player and has been the lynchpin of their side.

Keith Hill working on a budget linked to 3,000 regulars at Rochdale has done a good job and they played nice attractive football last time they came here. A midfield that can pass the ball to another same coloured shirt always helps rofl

New Manager Poll

One thing that's puzzling me - it didn't take very long after Scotty left and Nicky F took over that Mark Warburton was appointed as Nicky's number two. Seems a bit quick - had feelers been put out before AS/TB left? How long a contract has Warburton got - two matches - to the end of the season - match by match?

It seems strange to appoint a number two temporarily, but if/when a completely new boss arrives he will presumably want to bring his own man in.

New Manager Poll

I have no inside information whatsoever, but I hope Chris Hughton is at least sounded out. It would certainly signal our ambition to players we want to recruit.

I'm a firm believer in the theory that every manager has his own level, which makes picking somebody with potential something of a lottery. There is no evidence, for example, that Paul Buckle could manage at a higher level. It is now arguable with hindsight that Andy Scott's level was League 2, but he may prove otherwise in future at a different club with a different set-up. On those grounds, Gary Johnson would be my second choice, as Phil Parkinson's record subsequent to Colchester implies that his promotion was as much down to circumstances and his staff as to his own abilities. I hope for everybody's sake that including Dennis Wise was done as a cruel joke.

I think you'll find he was free and available. He also worked with Ose Aibangee, who I'm given to understand has a close relationship with MB...

New Manager Poll

Woodman
Balkestein
Diagouraga
Alexander
Grabben
Wright
Saunders

I also think Scott wasted a million

Woodman - Better left back than Dickson, and already contributed more going forward than Dickson ever did.
Balkestein - I'm sure if I looked through the thread "Who should the club sign?" Pim's name would be there. Not been as good on a perm as he was on loan.
Diagouraga - As Pim.
Alexander - Scores goals. Nuisance for defenders. Would rather have him than play against him.
Grabban - Free Transfer. Was our best player on Tuesday night. Low risk signing.
Wright - Free Transfer. Has pedigree but pace is not there.
Saunders - Free Transfer. Personally don't rate him.

New Manager Poll

from the Sheffield Star (evening paper not a reality tv prog)

"BOOKMAKERS’ favourite Gary Megson is a contender for the Sheffield Wednesday job, chairman Milan Mandaric has confirmed.

The former Owls midfield player is on a shortlist of four as Mandaric aims to make a quick appointment - possibly within the next 24 hours.

But the Hillsborough chief is also considering the credentials of the other three, undisclosed candidates.

Former Bristol City and Peterborough boss Gary Johnson is believed to be interested in the job.

Mandaric could be eyeing Notts County’s Paul Ince - whom he tried to land for Leicester when the ex-England star was running MK Dons and just before he moved to Blackburn and the Premier League.

Others linked with the post include ex-Ipswich and Sunderland boss Roy Keane, and former Owls star John Sheridan, boss of League Two leaders Chesterfield.

Iain Dowie, formerly with Oldham, Palace, Charlton, Coventry, QPR and Hull, has dropped a big hint that he would like the job.

Please let it be Megson. Sheff Wed will be dropping like a stone if he's their manager.

Already contributed more going forward than Dickson ever did, hahaha, I almost fell of my chair !!

IIRC Woodman has a similar amount of goals/assists to Dickson in his Brentford career.

New Manager Poll

IMHO he (Martin Allen) started our downward spiral which Scott actually stopped.

wow. in my opinion, he had us punching above our weight for two consecutive years, and our thin budget and terrible appointments directly after Allen were responsible for our downward spiral. in fact i'm amazed that you could see it otherwise, or that you could somehow hold MA "responsible" for that

exactly. and it's Woodmans first season - Dickson was exciting to watch no doubt, but when you look at his stats. Pretty low - it's a case of rose tinted glasses i think. i'd rather have Woodman.

Two points clear, two games in hand and then his tactics of trying to hold onto a lead, which had been evident from Yeovil in December, completely backfired. Our form was poor, in the worst League One there has been, and nothing was in place for the following season. The timing of his departure meant Leroy never had a chance.

Not sure Allen had a "thin budget". The likes of Burton, Owusu, Turner and even Salako wouldn't have been cheap. He was a got manager for us but ran out of ideas, just like AS. The performances at the tail end of 2005/06 (Swindon apart) were awful. It all started when we lost unluckily at Swansea and went down hill from there. Anyone remember Pratley squaring up to the fans at Gillingham? Something had gone wrong within that squad, just like it has within this.

New Manager Poll

Salford hates Martin Allen. :thetruth:

Let that be the end of it or we'll end up with a repeat of the definitions of success and failure saga. :cutthecrap:

New Manager Poll

It off topic but... its actually difficult to compare Woodman with Dickson; Woodman is a "real" left back while Ryan is like Spillane - more adventurous (and fans' memories are of the exciting bits) but he was no 'tricky winger', a bit theatrical and iffy defensively. (The MA of left-backs, now I write this!) Woodman is also competent with his right foot, which has saved us a few times this season. All-in-all, I's prefer a left back to be a 'steady Eddie' rather than a show pony.

New Manager Poll

exactly. and it's Woodmans first season - Dickson was exciting to watch no doubt, but when you look at his stats. Pretty low - it's a case of rose tinted glasses i think. i'd rather have Woodman.

The two relevant stats:

Woodman 2 goals, 4 assists.
Dickson 3 goals, 6 assists. (League One 2 goals, 3 assists)

Dickson played double the amount of games for the club than Woodman.

In his two full seasons I never remember us not being in or around the play off spots and we made the 5th round of the FA cup twice, your argument just doesn't hold up. Oh to be in aposition this season when we're in a position to hold onto a lead sitting top of the table! I think I may have a bit of Man love for MA and while it's greta short term to have him back I don't thi nk hes's the man for the job but don't even think about blaming him for the Leroy, SF and TB debacle

Gary johnson would be bang on for us. I,m sure he would have us competing in the championship within a short time.

The slump started in March 2006 (as Guildford Bee says at Swansea) and ended in December 2007. LLLWDDDDWDDDL. That's two wins in 13. I'd call that a slump.

Looking outside his record with BFC in the League and ignoring Leicester (where he wasn't given enough time). MK Dons had the largest budget in League Two and didn't go up. He was garbage at Cheltenham. He signed about 50 players in 18 months IIRC and took them down and looked as if they could go down again.

New Manager Poll

To be fair Salford has provided stats, something I am too lazy to find , but Dicko was one of the most attack minded full backs we have ever had, ok he may not have played the final assist ball, but regularly he used to be the impetus we needed going forward.

Saying that, I prefer Woodman as he your typical left back

New Manager Poll

On what basis does Sky Bet think Dennis Wise is odds-on to become our next manager?

Dickson's boots were not as slippery as Woodman's, dont know if that means anything.

New Manager Poll

:banghead:

Why go over the same stuff again? MA left because the budgets were slashed. MA didn't leave BFC in the sh*te. The clubs directors at the time allowed what ever budget they could afford to MA, any extra funds from cup runs etc was given in bonus payments or playing budget (no doubt i'll be corrected by abee if it's incorrect) MA didn't give long contracts, all were earned on a yearly basis. Yes the games towards the end weren't great, but it was fun while it lasted, MA's seasons are up there with the best in my time at GP.

As for Woodman and Dicko, Dicko is a talented player, Woodman is a "steady eddie" type player, I'd have Dicko before Woodman because he's a better player coming forward.

now :backtotopic:

may be because before the last good run he was seen sniffing around when scott should have gone that time, and he has probably blabbed it to people.

personally i wouldnt mind him as will have the contacts to attract players from and around the higher divisions, dont have to like him as long as he does a job! i was devestated when AS first appointed but credit where it was due.

Salford, after your very noticeable "about turn" in less than 24 hours is anyone listening? :fishing:

looking at the poll above the fans want either GJ or MA, so its a guarantee we wont get either of them, its likely to be Dennis Wise (God help us if thats the case)
