Rico Henry

Rico Henry

Ive been saying it all season and the second half today was the first time Rico has consistently bombed on down that wing and overlapped the wide man. When he does that we are such a threat on the left and it really pushes teams back. One of the main reasons we got the win today.

Up until today he tends to hold back and sit just inside the oppo half. Seeing him taking on the last man down that side was refreshing to see as hes very good at it.

May just depend on the brief he's given. Who knows.

Rico Henry

Was very good today, but wtf was he doing at the end running about 60 yards out of position and then giving away possession....

True but then he immediately made up the ground and was there to cover the player who received the pass from his error. Pretty fast.

Rico Henry

There was a reason why he was the first player we offered a 5 year contract when we signed him. Rico is class and if it wasn't for his injuries whilst at Brentford he would be playing Premiership football by now. Hopefully he will get the chance next season with us.

Rico Henry

..............strange handball for the penalty..............

Rico Henry

Very strange from a player having a good game. Such a blatant handball.

Rico Henry

He made a mistake...……..it happens. He's been one of our best players this season, give him a break.

He did. You’re right.

The thing about Henry he seems a bit of an enigma to me. Looks like he perfectly fits the Ashley Cole mould at left back BUT as rapid As he is. Generally his final ball is lacking and he makes a few mistakes (not a lot but a few). To me he needs to grow up and fast. Keep his head up. Find that perfect ball. Keep his concentration. It isn’t experience. He has over 100 first team games now. I dunno. I’ll probably get slaughtered but it’s just how I feel.

Really good player having a really good game makes a monumental Fck up. Shhhhh. We’re not allowed to mention it. FFS

He has the odd lapse, remember Reading at home last season when he lost his rag and pushed the attacker in the back to give away a pen.
He’s still a class player who is worth a lot more than when we bought him.

Just got back from the game, Rico's handball was defiantly the turning point of the game and obviously cost us that goal, but nevertheless as frank said in his interview, when we have just conceded a goal we should be keeping the ball and keeping things tight and try not concede another goal, this is were we also needed our leaders like Jansson and Dalsgaard. I do have to mention and I no it won't mean much to most fans, but Rico was one of the best player's on the pitch up until then, he is our youngest defender at 22 in our greatly improved back 4 this season and is an important part of this improvement. I would be obliged to give him a pardon on this mistake today and I know he will learn from it and improve during the season, as we push for promotion. I don't think nobody will be more upset than Rico himself for that rush of blood to his head that lead to the handball also letting his fellow team mates down.

Yes he has been great, and had performed well up until that...but that handball was awful. Stone wall decision and the ref had no choice. 'He'll learn from it' doesnt apply when he already knows it's something you shouldn't do.

A costly mistake, positive contribution this season or not.

Rico Henry

Although he didn't "mean" to handle it I thought he was just desperate to cut out the cross. Reach was unmarked behind him and would have buried it.
Took one for the team

.............Raya would have saved it and still 1-0 to the Bees.............

Had a good game. Felt he was unfortunate with the handball

"Unfortunate" is a weird word to use - it was a blatant handball. Crazy or stupid might have been more a more appropriate adjective. And that's not a dig at Rico, who's performed pretty well for us this season, but if he'd just let the ball go, they may well not have scored and we might have ended up winning the game.

Anyway, on to Wednesday.

Rico had a great game yesterday. I was there and saw it. ‘Unfortunate’ .... let me put it is this way, he had 2 players to Mark in the box, when the cross came over. He couldn’t let the ball go, as he had someone behind him waiting to pounce. He was in a rock and a hard place at the time. Again (as can be said a lot this season) he had no cover and had to try and cope with 2 attackers .. imho, it was unfortunate. **** happens. He didn’t do much else wrong throughout the game, unlike a few of the others, who constantly lost possession and caused us to try and defend, when we could have been on the offensive

Wasn’t his fee potentially up to £5m? - although no idea what the add-on bonuses were.

Id imagine the majority of add ons relate to promotion and perhaps an international appearance

Not criticising Raya at all cos he's the best keeper we've had for years. However having seen several replays I cant help feeling he'd have saved it comfortably if he'd waited for the kicker to actually strike the ball rather than trying to guess where he'd put it. A penalty save then might have shaken the rest of the team out of their complacency enough to get their performance back on track. All hypothetical I know but having played in goal for many years I always felt a keeper has more chance if he actually dives in the direction the ball is kicked.

Rico Henry

No I agree with that, I was there and almost right behind him, he went at least a second too early and I found it a bit odd/dissapointing that he chose to do so. Made it very easy for Fletcher unfortunately.

Took one for the team

Giving away a penalty is "taking one for the team"? Hardly, more "giving one to the opposition"

As for positioning, he was himself beyond the far post and he had plenty of time to just deal with the player if he ever got good possession of the ball. I reckon that a defender and goalkeeper against a single attacker who is beyond the far post on the edge of the area is a harder opportunity to convert a goal from than a penalty kick. Is it just me?

Yeah I wasn't convinced about that either. :sorted:

I agree that, as he often does, he had a good came yesterday (apart from the handball) as I was watching the stream, but I'm still struggling to agree with your use of "unfortunate". As I said earlier, he'd have been better off letting the ball though to the SW player to his left than giving away a blatant penalty as the opposing player may have miscontrolled the ball, missed with his shot or had his shot saved. Giving away a penalty gave the opossition a better goalscoring chance, which they gleefully took and it turned out to be the pivotal point of the match.

So we'll have to agree to differ on this, I'm afraid.

I think the ref also explained this situation to the SW players, who were ‘enquiring’ why he wasn’t being sent off.

It wasn’t Rico’s fault we lost the game. I trust that we agree on that. Hopefully we as a team will learn from it ! And Rico gets better cover in future.

Re: the penalty. I was watching Eze taking one for QPHa and said he would do his hesitation trick. If the keeper stood his ground he had a better chance of saving it.

...or if he stands still a lot of the time. Richard Lee did it successfully against Charlton a few years ago.

Having it seen it back on tv I agree it was a bit more of a **** up than I thought at the time, Reach actually had a lot more to do than I (and Rico) thought

Rico Henry

Actually, I think he was innocently appealing for offside. Outrageous that they gave a penalty for this

Rico Henry

............confirmed my initial thoughts................

I loved that particular save. Wasn't it 4 out of 5 he saved in a shoot out. He'd done his research on all their takers and knew John Jackson (iirc) went straight down the middle. He just stood still and caught it. Brilliant.

I thought he saved all of them, and some were good diving saves - excellent.

Rico Henry

That was on the goal line. Hardly the same ****ing scenario is it?

I'd say in the circumstances it was the ultimate "taking one for the team"

Rico Henry

Just how good was Henry today? If it wasn't for injuries he would have been a Premiership player by now.
