Because he's not going to get match fit sitting on a peloton bike mate. Surely a 45 minute cameo against relatively poor opposition is better than throwing him in against a winger like Salah where he might just try a bit too hard first time out.

Alternatively, the reason we have these players is so that they can play and win the team standings points. Why would we risk playing him in a first game that is a real league match as opposed to playing him when there is less on the line?

Pointless friendly that is part of a structured pre-season program? Every game is a risk, bit of a silly comment.

I would start him off in b- team games where the environment can be better controlled, rather than against a bunch of bottom tier professional men who will be busting a bit to cause an upset. They aren’t going to hold back.

A 90% fit Rico should cruise through a game against league 2 opposition. Of course he'll break a sweat but he's not going to be over exerting himself too much hopefully in a game like that. That gives him minutes in the legs which is what he'll be severely lacking right now. According to TF he's training well so you would assume if he's selected, that the physio's believe him to be fit enough to play without breaking down. There is no other way of getting that match sharpness unless the suggestion is to play against a very tough opposition, something that could be an issue for Rico and also he could be a liability to the team if not quite ready for the Prem just yet.

I'll admit I would have expected him to have played in a BCD friendly or B team match already, although he maybe has and we just don't know about it. But I think it's a bit disingenuous to label Colchester Utd cloggers that will do everything to snap little Rico. Even in the bottom tier I think we've moved on a bit from those days.....Plus they'll have to catch him first! ;)

He has to play at some point, playing in a B team fixture is hardly going to stretch him much, in fact probably little different to a strenuous training session

Have faith in the professionals running the football they won’t risk anything but will want him to have some meaningful game time before letting him off the lead !!!

Sorry I cannot agree that friendlies are pointless, otherwise why not go straight into the league programme. There are valid reasons for these games, what happened was unfortunate, but the reality is you can get injured anywhere even in training which has happened to us many times.

He's now had 2 acl injuries and he's 27,some might think that's a bit of a risky undertaking.

He's probably not got much improvement left,i don't think he'll ever become the complete player and vastly improve his deliveries from out wide.I doubt a top 6 club would buy him and anything else would be a sideways move.His contract runs till 2026 plus a 1 yr option and if he fully recovers i can see us extending it.

I think he's perfect for us and we're perfect for him.

He passed his first medical,, when he first came to us, although he wouldn't of passed ,a medical anywhere else lol

His return will lift our level enormously. Suddenly Flekken has an out ball that sets us on a counter. Our whole left hand side reignites with direct pace and our defence becomes more resistant to counter attacks. I was gutted for Rico when he got injured. He is so underrated and undervalued. I would not swap him for any other LWB in the Premier League. His return is a very big deal.

Would imagine that the BCD friendly this week will involve a lot of the players who weren't involved yesterday, focusing more on youth players. Konak, Rico, Ji-Soo, Cox for example. Another look at VDB, a first start for Nunes, more minutes for Trevitt and some B team players to fill out the team makes sense to me.

How I see it too. He's so integral to the way we play. When he's at his best, so is the team.
