Oh dear. In that case, don’t get your hopes up. We won’t be signing a RB any time soon.

When Rico returns, Ajer will move to RB until Hickey returns. This will allow SvdB to concentrate on CB.
Your hopes appear to be up alot more than mine. I wouldnt include Hickey in any conversation for this season.

Rico Henry

I guess we don’t know how Rico is coping. I thought the way damsgaard discussed his injury was illuminating. Half the battle is trusting your body again.

Could be the issue with Rico more than just being physically fit. In his role you are in the thick of defensive tackles etc. and if you lack confidence about your role in the physical battles you inevitably have then you can end up being second best and risk of another injury.

We can’t really afford to have another long-term injury to Rico, he’s been key to our attacking style of play, with his speed getting up the pitch and ability to hold the ball once he’s there, plus it goes without saying we need him as a left back in defence. Getting him settled into the starting XI should transform us, especially as we get Thiago and Nunes into play as the season develops.

what a team we will have with those three back and JDS , Hickey too of course but we're not hearing positive noises

What's the latest on Rico's fitness?

Rico Henry

Started to get a little concerned about his return. No more news on mins played behind closed doors since he played a couple of weeks ago.

Rico Henry

Tyrone Mings only returned to 1st team action last night (started btw) and he did his ACL on the first weekend of last season.....a full month before Rico's injury.

No two injuries mirror each other but it at least draws a parallel to the cautious approach the club have taken with regard to reintegrating Rico.

I suppose they have to be wary of secondary injuries caused by rushing back rehabilitated players and that the overall structure of the knee is up to the demands and intensity of PL football.

Think that was Mings 2nd one too, did similar at Bournemouth

Think part of the "medical review" is to bring back players with more caution. Especially those that have been out over a year.

Wouldn't expect to see him play a match before a crowd until after the next intl break tbh

However, I would be over the moon if he lined-up at left back vs Putney!

Rico Henry

The worry for me is when the season started he was a couple of weeks away. Now three months later we seem further away than before.

Why the worry?

Maybe we are being cautious. Its a major injury, look at Hickey, im sure he was one of those players rushed back which caused a set back.

We’re going to need an experienced LB against ‘Ricky’ Traoré; quick but even he doesn’t know what he’s going to do!

Rico Henry

Can I now be the first to say "its all your fault" in anticipation of his goal on Monday...
On his day, he is unplayable. It's rarely "his day" and I hope that continues Monday.

Interesting. Some at the club thought Neil Grieg took too long to get people back! All before Ben Ryan’s time, granted.

Rico Henry

I was referring to Mings!

100% agree re Rico, we miss him badly
I know - I was making the comparison, unlike them we do not have the luxury of a large bloated expensive squad and have had to make do and mend. Hopefully PG not for too much longer.

Rico Henry

I think games like last night highlight why we need a left footed back up that we actually trust to play in the Premier League. We know Ajer is going to have spells out injured every season and for me we can’t be shifting our back-up right back to left back as we just can’t rely on Mads at RWB to attack the game. He’s good defensively but is a weak link going forward, last night highlighted that again but also highlighted that whilst VdB can defend well at LB, he’s not able to attack the game in a way Rico or Ajer can.

surely you have that he wrong way round?

Every passing game highlights how desperately we need Rico back but the lack of an update is worrying

Rico Henry

We have both full backs unavailable and now the back up back is also unavailable. I think Thomas should carry out all his interviews standing on his head.

Totally agree and you could make a similar case for missing Hickey at RB. I think we have really suffered from not having a proper left back all season so far.

Mads is a great squad player but he is not what we need as first choice RB either.

If things don’t improve by January maybe we will/ should be looking at the transfer market for specialist full backs assuming Meghoma is not seen as PL ready.

Rico Henry

I think i read on here today that he's had a setback again and hurt his hamstring. Anybody heard anything?

I think we get an update in the pre-match presser every time.

Rico Henry

I don’t think we got a Rico update before the Fulham presser which I thought was odd. I really thought Thomas would be asked .. It’s the biggest part of the PC’s for me is injury news especially Rico & Igor.
Unfortunately, it’s down to the journos to ask the question...

Agree, over a quarter of the Premier League season gone and Rico yet to make a squad.

It's looking like a poor decision not to get some loan cover in, but there were plenty of voices against that on the GPG too.
