As for the bit in bold, i assume the set back is under the new leadership then?
Why would you assume that? Even if correct then no-one can make it perfect in 0 seconds. Never mind: another person to blame that hasn't got his windows password yet. Nor his name on the door.

Im not saying it should be perfect................ And im not blaming the new director.

But if it is a lack of communication and organisation resulting in over working Rico when he shouldnt have been................. Then that sounds like a pretty simple fek up that should of been avoided by someone. However............I'll stop the unneeded assumptions.

Good luck to the new individual in charge of it all. More importantly gutted for Rico.

Been too long without a recognised full back in this squad.

Yes I agree. On the face of it (and this is just a sliver of info, so not necessarily pandemic) it's a lack of comms within the dept.

Rico Henry

Inclined to agree that while a simple fek up is certainly annoying given our recent injury history, frustration is boiling over because :

1. The length of time we have gone without full backs is forever.
2. We don't believe what we hear anymore regarding returning players.
3. We are such a soft touch to score against.

:sorted:

Just frustrating to see this incident delaying a return that we were expecting by now.

We needed to take our time with Rico, but a mistake like this is poor IMO.

As Les B said, Rico must be pulling his hair out.

This is the one for me. Im so done with watching players being played out of position in the full back areas.

I believe it. However I cannot quite understand how a multi million pound business can miss this piece of essential communication about a major asset. Apologies for calling Rico an asset. One would have thought the medical department would be all over this no matter who was in charge ?

Rico Henry

Totally agree, he must be devastated and frustrated. (friend of a friend) Low key whisper is that the medical dept have failed him somewhat. My question back to the whisperer was; how did they? Responded; he played a high intensity game against the B team for 45mins which would suggest he was three BCD games away, before his return to the first team, that would have been this weekend. He came out of that 45min game all good but, apparenely two days after during training, he was overtrained due to the lack of communication between the medical staff. Apparently, one staff didn't know Rico had a game two days prior, however there was a setback. The whisperer wouldn't give me any details on what the setback was, but said it has put back Rico at least month (Mid December) I might get a b***ocking putting this out there, hopefully the whisperer won't read it. Then agian it might be all BS:sneakoff:
Wouldn’t Rico himself have been in the loop about how much training he should be doing? I’m not saying your info is incorrect but it seems odd that Rico himself wouldn’t have known he shouldn’t have overtrained so soon after playing? If it was me, I’d be all over every detail of my rehabilitation schedule.

Hi @Beeswaxnees

Firstly, love the name.

More importantly, and I know I speak for a few, in saying thank you for sharing this. Not just the risk of a bo***cking, but imagine if a month had passed with either no new info/he’s ‘getting closer’. Know why doesn’t speed it up, but knowing the reason alleviates even greater frustration. I completely understand why the club don’t share this, but at least we know there was a screw up. Although the ‘over training’ is something I’ve wondered from time to time

However you dress it up, if true that a lack of communication, regardless of who or when a head of medical was appointed, it's a massive feck up, and quite frankly unprofessional for a Premier League club.

Awesome stuff, and I am saying that ironically, valuable information to opposition teams posted on a public forum, in what is one of the most high stake sporting businesses in the world.

The stress some feel about not knowing how some players health is quite pointless. One, its none of our business health wise, and two, we are all responsible for our own feelings. We cant blame the club comms for our stress. An indivdiuals stress comes from how they choose to perceive events, the lack of information is not causing stress, you are, and you should learn to deal with it for your own physical and mental health and general sense of well-being

One day our ship will come ???

We are a soft touch to score against correct .. I was saying to myself watching that game the other night even at 90 mins on clock I expected us to concede . Not twice though mind. We are so open at the back its no coincidence we have conceded so many goals.

Rico Henry

What is strange about it?

What is strange is not grasping the fact we have spent 12-15M on Rico MKII for the future and we believe we have players that can get us through it until MKI returns. Ayer and VDB are just about doing that.

IMO opinion that is not a fukk up nor a strange view. We have Cover, MK1 coming back imminently and MKII.

What is strange is not doing the same at RB where we are not expecting MKI back for another year and MKII has not be procured. We have enough to get us through it, but that is now1.5 years of getting through it without making any progress of finding a MKII.

I think you are looking at the wrong side of the pitch.

Any "mid level option" would not have been better then Ajer or VDB or even the new lad.
I get your point but we have more cover at RB than we do at LB. At RB there is Mads Roerslev and Kris Ajer who can play there. Or even SVDB. At LB our only back up is a right footed defender who is better at right back or a central midfielder. Or the young player signed who clearly is deemed not ready immediately.

We had money spare to cover it and I am sure we tried to get someone in in that position other than Meghoma.

Rico will be back when he is back. The club have said they will manage it very carefully so it will take some time. I don't expect to see him until the new year

You can’t make this sh*t up.

Rico Henry

You can’t make this sh*t up.
Agree you couldn’t but what is now really worrying me is how fragile Rico is if over training has set him back up to a month rather than a few days.
These footballers are supremely fit even when not match fit and the slow and stuttering process to regain full fitness is a concern given he was back on grass training weeks ago and reported to be close but were not rushing after impressive sessions with the first team at Jersey Road.
Please God, he’s nearly there and it’s worth the wait

Of course you are right, the point I am making is that we can see Rico coming back imminently, we have planned his succession and we have a couple who are doing a decent job there in the meantime. On the right we have lost our first choice for over 2 years and there must be question marks over that, we have no succession in place and IMO Mads is simply not good enough when called upon for more then the odd game. We do have players filling in on the right but on the left we have the real deal a weeks away from a return and successor in waiting. Right has nothing but "fillers ins" trying their best.

Let's hope Rico is a few weeks away. Having not played for over a year I don't expect it to be that quickly. And similar to Sergi when he returned after a long layoff, he will be very rusty.

Whether the club were aware of this during summer I have no idea. I know Thomas said he hoped he would be back for some of pre season, but that clearly wasn't the case and we must have had prior warning. I think we should have got LB cover as it is a glaring weakness in our line up currently, our weakest position. I also think Ajer, when fit, is more than an adequate right back

Agree you couldn’t but what is now really worrying me is how fragile Rico is if over training has set him back up to a month rather than a few days.

I didn't read that as a cardio fitness thing as Rico was as fit as a fiddle last year, as you say it takes a few days to recover from over exertion. You can't compare a football fans injury to a football players injury, but as someone who has a 57 year old body but a 25 years old brain who still tries to do what I did 30 years ago I spent a lot of time down at Bisham Abbey curtesy of my companies BUPA contract. They see a lot of pro athletes down there as it is part of sport England, and the one thing that have taught me is when you injure your knee for example, the first thing you do is build the muscle around it. I can comfortably do 90-100KG on a Romanian dead lift, they had me doing it with no weights, I said it is too easy but they insist you build up over weeks/months getting everything properly engaged.

If Rico is playing his first half of football you can guarantee no amount of cardio has prepared his muscles for a football match and he will be using muscles he hasn't used for a year. If he doesn't recover properly he will over exert and tweak or pull something, it certainly looks like the case. He will have to spend 2-3 weeks building that muscle up again and strengthening everything around it first to support it, then he has to go start the whole half a game thing again to build up.

It kind of makes sense to me if that is what has happened.

I think we were preparing for the season with both full backs available or close, we have had a double injury whammy on both and I guess they saw an IT replacement as more important then cover at that point, in hindsight I think they would have brought a lefty in for 6 months.

That’s almost a relief if that is the case, thanks

I’d assume the Club – and particularly the medical team – are being incredibly cautious in getting Rico up to a point were he can play for 60 minutes in a Premier League game. It’s a balance of risk between adding his undoubted defensive abilities to the team and risking losing him for a couple of months after a first appearance.

I’d also expect that there’s a considerable amount of active tracking of alternative full backs with a mid-December deadline.

It looks like they did the exact opposite and that is what caused the 6-8 week delay to his comeback (see posts above over last day or so)

Rico Henry

Problem has always been he'd want to be starting every week, the club wouldn't have been able to promise that unless they knew Rico was months rather than weeks, which I doubt they did when the window was open.
The irony is he would have started every bloody week since August!

Rico Henry

I don't know the name. But apparently an very very very well respected individual from the world of (most recently) rugby.
But we're playing that other sport....illudes me atm....erm....

Rico Henry

I meant from the moment of this latest set-back. Thomas had mentioned a few times in the past that Rico is a very committed individual and it’s therefore possible that he himself went over-and-above guidance, we’ll probably never know. AFAIK, whatever it was, we don't actually know the detail but there will be extreme caution in managing him.

Rico Henry

Although frustrating, I'm happy to hear that both him and Thiago will be back in the next 6 weeks.

Rico Henry

Talking about long a time ago and not necessarily Brentford but have seen players rushed back when not ready. Richard Cadette springs to mind. Saying these days we seem a lot more careful which is a very good thing and the club to be applauded for their care of players and their welfare.
All of which makes your initial post pretty daft.

Rico Henry

The rumour is entirely correct.

The medical department has just had new leadership, so perhaps give him a chance eh?
Agreed. The new leadership in question is apparently rated by the players and staff, so yes he will need time.

Rico Henry

Can't believe we are persisting with what we currently have when a first team fit LB sits on the bench. Let the kid play. Sepp has been pretty poor in the last three games. Roerlsev against Fulham... how could it possibly be worse?
Surely if the ‘kid’ was up to the required standard TF would put him on at sometime even if not up to starting. Clearly the coaching staff’s view is that he is not yet ready to make an appearance in the league.

begs the question why we didn't get someone who is! Buying a player for the future is all good if we have a decent option for the present.

But that’s one of the basic principles of the GPG : those who aren’t in the team are clearly better than those who are!!!

He‘s obviously rated highly by the club, so much so that his appointment has been all over the social media outlets, even more times than the new club chaplain … oh, hold on, what’s his name again?

Would just lead to a social media pile on as with most things that the club announces. They probably just tire of it, just letting the bloke get on with the job.
