Sam Saunders

I saw the reserve game on Monday and I think it showed exactly why Sam Saunders isn't going to progress at this club. If you can't grab the opportunity to show the watching manager what you can offer with a perfect chance like that, it's never going to happen.

I think he'll be gone before too long.

But did he impress the Wycombe manager?

Would you like to explain what happpened....how did he play?

Sam Saunders

I simply mean that he looked the Sam Saunders we have seen too often in league matches - shoulders slumped when things didn't come off for him, too much time waiting for the ball in positions where he isn't really going to be able to do anything with it if he does receive it and sometimes standing back to admire what he's done without following it up.

In that reserve game, he had enough of the ball to have made a real impression.

Despite what I've said, I do like him, but I just don't think he's going to suit the way that Brentford want to see things done.

Sam Saunders

Big shame I think.
But Saunders is wasted with the way we play.
I would love to see us passing and Sammy involved he would shine im sure.!

Remember Norwich at home, that was this time last year.. MOM that night

Sam Saunders

If Wood and Weston aren't fit tomorrow, stick Saunders on the left I say. Thought he was good against Palace in that position.

We do pass !! Did you not watch any of sat?

Sam Saunders

I honestly think he would be better in the centre will run at players, can pick a pass, will shoot .

Would like to see him play in front of dave, i think he can unlock doors and clearly not fancied by AS if we keep getting winger after winger in and play forwards or full backs on the RW before he is given a run out.

Sam Saunders

I'm starting to get disappointed with all the players that don't "fit" especially as the ones that do, don't fit together so far

Sam Saunders

I think Saunders' best position would be behind the front two, but that would mean a complete change of formation and style of play for Brentford. I reckon he'll be off soon, maybe up on a short trip up the M40

We played that way in 1962 when we had Mike Block and George McLeod.
AS is obsessed with whingers.

Sam Saunders

I can still see Mike Block scorching down the right wing and planting a cross straight on to the head of John Dick or Billy McAdams.

I think Saunders needs to play in front of an overlapping full back, otherwise his lack of pace makes it too easy for the opposing defenders. With someone willing to go past him he has the skill to bring them in or go himself, which would create enough doubt to cause the opposition defenders problems.

Trouble is, he can't defend. Added to his lack of pace, it doesn't look a great story I'm afraid ....

.......................think he will be on his way now...................looked an exciting prospect at the Dagenham away game where he scored and was glad when he joined the Bees...........ought to have been an automatic first choice by now........................off to Wycombe then????............

Sorry Sammy, it looks like you are surplus to requirements

We never saw the best of him!

Oh and come on, Andy Scott was himself a winger, no wonder thats how he sets his teams up to play.

Sam Saunders

 Saunders.

IMHO, we can't get rid of him soon enough, unfortunately he turned out to be a waste of money.

Sam Saunders

AS obviously sees something in him or I suspect he would have gone before now.

Has always looked a capable player to me, but not consistent so far at GP. Would still happily see him step up his performances and hold down a shirt

Sam Saunders

He'll be back in League Two with someone like Southend or Aldershot before long. The signing of Adams makes it seem even more likely.

Sam Saunders

Such a shame. I really thought he would do a great job here, looks a tidy enough player.

I'm guessing him and Andy don't exactly see eye to eye.

And to be fair on Mr Scott, those he has got rid of haven't exactly set the world alight and returned to bite his arse.

Maybe we did, and that's why he's down the pecking order

Yep I reackon we have, AS could play him in midfield, the trouble is he wouldn't run around in circles, just head the ball aimlessy forward and continually pass it backwards.....no am afraid he just doesn't fit the bill

Sam Saunders

Sadly I think we have indeed seen the last of him! He definately has something about him but hasn't taken his opportunities, albeit he has not really had a 'decent' run of games, and there is now just too much quality in and around the team for him to get a look in.

A real shame he didn't reach the expectation alot of us thought he would but time to move on I think!

Sam Saunders

There are times when a player just does not live up to expectations, and it is sad. It is slightly concerning, though, when the general consensus seems to be that the player never really got enough of a run in the team to show his capabilities. Mind, perhaps Saunders ought to be grateful for the several chances he did get - I'm thinking Lee, Spillane and McCracken!

Grow up, overall he has been woeful

I thought he has played alright when given the chance Palace in the friendly, Norwich spring to mind he just hasnt been given a chance you cant give him one or two games and then drop him and then say he hasnt taken the chances been given, give him a chance and he will do well for us but will probably leave soon good luck to whatever he does he certainly has talent.

He can put in a decent ball when he has the time and take a good set piece. He doesn't have the pace to beat a man though and is awful at covering his full back.

He is Glenn Poole.

Unfortunately,GP without the goals too!

SS promises so much but he has produced very little in terms of goals and assists. I also think he is a confidence player who needs to be loved and seen as the fulcrum of the team and this has never happened to him.

I hope he gets a move, ideally to Div 2 as I really think that in different circumstances he could really come good.

Shame it hasn't worked out as his signing really excited me.

Sam Saunders

I think some people are bang out of order on this thread, suggesting that he is a waste of space. Lets be fair he hasn't been given a proper chance, and those peformances against Bristol City, Norwich and that goals couldn't be done by a waste of space in my opinion.

I'd like to see him given another chance but if he doesn't I think he can feel extermely hard done by IMO.

Sam Saunders

Time and time again freekicks and corners hit the first defender, he lacks pace (can't beat a man) and simply doesn't seem fussed about helping out his full back.

Honestly, with the exception of Neil Shipperly, I've never been left more disappointed by a signing I was quite excited about.

I've got no hard feelings against the bloke, but we're carrying dead weight, and it would be better for both parties if he made a move. He may go on to great things, but he just doesn't fit into the Brentford mould for me.

Don't tell me to grow up............clearly you cannot recognise a skillfull talented footballer ?

Sam Saunders

The problem with Saunders is that at Daggers I think he played just behind the strikers or in the middle. He's not a winger despite AS playing him there. He's been overtaken by better players on the right wing now. I'd like to see him given a chance in the middle but if he goes, I'm confident we've got better midfielders than him.

Sam Saunders

Totally agree with u mate. Too many people on here wouldnt recognise talent if it hit them in the face.

We MUST have players who run round like headless chickens all game........but they give 100%

Sam Saunders

Nope. You're just incapable of changing your increasing boring record.

The problem with you mate is you just cannot cope with the fact that other people have a different view to you....just read the previous posts.

If anyone ever mentions that Sam is a very skillful player and could offer us a different option it seems to upset you, get over it.

Sam Saunders

we all agree to disagree on certain issues.

i enjoy reading views by people like nick logan and davee and nlb and northampton bee even if we often agree to disagree. years ago sweepy and i never agreed on anything but times change!

a very few posters (those who are just nasty about players whether i privately rate the player or not), well i skip their posts.

easy. try it!

Not at all. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, I just happen to object to the manner in which you choose to express yours.
