?

If it's not one thing, it's another. How can you expect the manager to get it 100% right with every player in every position every time? If you want that, go watch Chelsea.

Schevchenko, Veron & Mutu cost more than £50m quid, so even Chelsea make errors and waste money. ;)

Sam Saunders

How about being more careful about the players we sign. Please
You didn't really think this through, did you?

Players are brought in because the management think they can contribute at the right price. While effort is put into making that judgement, it's never going to be 100%. Leon Legge, Cort or DJ would probably not have been considered under your criteria.

Every player in the squad is potentially going to move on; if a better player, in the judgement of the management, becomes available, then we'll get him and recycle another, that's how it works.

Sam Saunders

Yeah but Saunders was signed, then late on Taylor was signed and then that didnt work out so As dipped into the loan market..
So no was never given 5 matches in the team to show what youve got.

True but the Dagenham trio wasn't the best bit of business.

True, but again I would suggest a majority of fans who had seen them play for D&R were happy they signed for us. They also contributed toward getting us to 9th place finish last season, however to progress further we needed better. Thats how it works doesn't it?

I was not aware that there was a set amount of games that new players need to be given before a decision is made on their future. I think these situations are judged on a case by case basis, not just on the games they play as there is also all the other stuff that we dont get to see, like their attitude in training etc etc. Some players play less, or a lot more than Saunders before being shown the door, its nothing personal, its business. Sometimes Scott (Fergueson/Wenger/Redknapp) will get it wrong. Interesting though that Simpson has only played 3/4 games and everybody is singing his praises. In comparison Saunders has had plenty of chances to show his worth.

Sam Saunders

I remember at Exeter away last season Saunders screaming for the ball in the second half and not getting it. He started the season well enough but we then hit a sticky patch and it cant have helped him seeing Taylor come in who didnt grab the place either.Like most of us i was pleased with his signing but for a number of reasons it never happened for him and it looks like he will be gone very soon. Some players just dont do it at clubs. Remember Tony Mahoney? He was rotting in Fulhams reserves when Fred signed him and he could not stop scoring. Fourteen by November and then fate struck and he broke his leg. I wish Sam all the best wherever he goes. It didnt work and we move on. I hope he does well at his new club and resurrects his career.

Sam Saunders

I think everyone agrees he had talent and I still dont think he is a winger but it looks like he will move on and hope he does well wherever he goes.

Sam Saunders

Saunders was outstanding against us both home and away two seasons ago, was wanted by other clubs and I was delighted when we got him.
I doubt he's become a poor player overnight, it may be given the few consecutive games he's started since he joined he's get grips with our style. We all want him to do well but he's struggled to make any real impression and has in our midfield looked a little lightweight, maybe we are just the wrong club for Sam. I genuinely believe he is good enough for this level and hope he proves himself elsewhere if he is off.

Not saying a set amount!
just he hasnt had a decent run in the side to get his confidence up!
He gets included once maybe and then is dropped.

But we dont know what goes on at the training ground etc.
Each time I speak to Sam hes always pretty peeved off
Also he played very well at Staines scoring a wicked free kick and had a very good game vs Crystal Palace

Exactly. If we'd had Halls, Newton and Elder instead of Foster, Saunders and Strevens we would have finished lower than 9th.

Sam Saunders

Given the results last year, it wasn't that bad.

There's no logic to this, those 3 made little or no difference, to get rid of all three in a year is bad business.

Szczesny made more difference than those 3 put together and then times ten.

I'm sorry but this is rubbish.

Strevs got a couple of important goals for us, Leeds in particular.

Foster was ever present in a 9th placed team.

Szczesny had certainly more of an impact, but Fost and Strevs still did their bit.

I think that's fairly negative. They contributed to a squad that over-achieved; Saunders played a cameo but most thought there was something about him and wanted to see more, Strevens was a willing worker and played in a lot of games (including at Elland Road) and Foster played consistently at right back, albeit overshadowed by Dickson. They probably didn't cost too much and we've off-loaded two.

20-20 hindsight is clarity itself.

It would have been bad business if we had got like for like in terms of replacements but:

Adams + Simpson >>> Saunders + Taylor >>> Adam Newton

Alexander + Cort >>> Strevens >>> Elder/Thorpe

Spillane + O'Connor >> Foster >>> Halls

I don't doubt that Saunders, Strevens and Foster can play at this level but I would question whether they'd be able to cut it in a team pushing for promotion to the Championship. You seem to forget this year has been remarkably different from previous years given the significant cash injection to the playing budget. Without that cash injection I suspect all three may well have been retained this year. I consider the disposal of Strevens (for a FEE no less!), Foster and potentially Saunders in a bid to free up more cash in the budget as a good bit of business. We're on a different playing field now.

Sam Saunders

Furry muff, at least we all agree what we have now is miles better than we've seen for a fair few years. I like Sam and hope he gets himself sorted out soon without costing us any money, fingers crossed.

Sam Saunders

Bit passive aggressive by Mr Scott...

He said: “Things haven’t quite worked out for Sam, he hasn’t been playing and has seen other players brought in in his position."

Well you did that Andy, wasn't divine intervention was it?

Guess he wants to move him out swiftly, still two years to run on his contact and all, could cost us a few bob.

We will get good money for him if he's as good as some think

Spot on. :sorted:

Worth bearing in mind that Strevens played in place of a fit Cort on many occasions last season, to our our detriment in my opinion. Although we would have struggled with only Cort all season!

Not sure what my point is really!

Never forget the back story. Strevens had to come back from a preseason leg break at the start of his Bees career.

Saunders to Wycome, don't take a genius to work out that it's going to happen, Hopefully on a loan though :)

1324: DONE DEAL: Blackpool have signed Wycombe winger Matt Phillips for an initial fee of £325,000, according to the League Two club

Sam Saunders

Bit of a kick in the teeth tonight! His interview in the week suggested he felt this was his chance to make an impression while Simpson was out, but a just fit Hudson knocks him off the bench!

Sam Saunders

Might have taken a knock against Everton?

Or more likely AS thinks that a recently fit Hudson is better than him? Poor Saunders, he should have moved on in the close season.

Sam Saunders

AS makes some shocking decisions! Lee is dropped to bench and Hudson?? comes straight into the team to replace Saunders! I wont be suprised if we see few out in January most be some very unhappy players in the squad, not good upsetting squad harmony will effect team results!

Sam Saunders

Maybe he is moving to LO next week and the agreement was not to play him tonight :fishing:

JB..;)

Sam Saunders

I really hope that Saunders was injured for tonight's game or AS has some explaining to do. Saunders played almost an hour in our best win for years, and Hudson hasn't even played a reserve game this season and has never played at this level before.

Sam Saunders

Of the games I've seen Saunders play (since he signed for us) - I have never seen what he did to make Scott sign him - however, both his Everton and Hartlepool cameos he looked ok. In the limited games Taylor had with us - I remember his header at Southampton....Nothing stands out for Saunders at all (I didn't see the Norwich game as only do weekend games generally) - and he had a lot more game time than Taylor. I like Adams, think he's got a lot of tricks in him, likes to shoot and looked a real menace against Everton - but he is even more ligtweight than saunders.

Sam Saunders

as I have argued many times Saunders MIGHT be the midfield creator that we are all crying out for, he is good with both feet, has a good football brain, happy to shoot when in and around the box and has some decent tricks.

Now I may be totaly wrong in this suggestion however at Daggenham he was given a free role and created a llot of opportunities for what became a prolific forward line and it would seem foolish in the extreme not to at least see if he can perform at the same level in this division. he showed in the Everton game that he was "up for the game" and whilst his tacklingg was "interesting" he could not be faulted for lack of effort.

The problem with playing him is that Scott would have to change from his preferred options of 2 wingers or hoofball, maybe it is worth examining that change before it is to late.

Sam Saunders

As much as I have been defending Andy Scott, if Saunders was dropped into the reserves then that will really annoy me. I don't see how he can go from coming on as a regular sub and playing better than Adams to going into the reserves

Sam Saunders

Hasnt been given a fair crack of the whip IMO. especially when you consider all of those could have been moments last season. We had two or three free kicks last night with his name on

Sam Saunders

He is not the answer to our current problems folks - move on.

Sam Saunders

Sam came on vs Everton and put himself about, kicked Neville and gave away two silly free kicks with rash challenges just outside the box. He looked like he was trying too hard to impress and while he got involved he is behind Simpson and Adams fir the wide right berth IMHO and can't comment on Hudson yet but AS has to look at him so why not put him on when we are behind

Sam Saunders

Just tweeted that he is "not a happy bunny". Could be football related. Could not.

Not so sure. But from going on Sam Saunders' twitter page I learnt that:

He supports Spurs... :nono:
He's friends with Ian Poulter...
Poulter wants a signed Brentofrd shirt...
He's going to see Paranormal Activity 2...
