Should Scott Go?

When are the board going to just get on with it and give AS the boot?

Yes it will raise a few eyebrows. Yes it will give us a Man City style reputation of being a little gung-ho, especially when he has just won Manager of the Month (based on someone looking at the results pages of the Sunday papers) and gained some headline-grabbing results this season.

However it will also prove that Brentford as a football club means business. It took QPR a few attempts to get the manager right, but now they finally have and what a manager they have got. I'm up for some Martin Allen, but oh how I would love it if Brentford was enough to tempt Coppell out of retirement.

Do l take it that you are saying "if you don't like it go and support another team"?Looking at your posts your hardly Tommy Cooper are you.
As far as Bumpy rides with Brentford l have had many over the last 50 years and so have many other fans.Nobody was moaning when we beat Hull and Everton are you surprised?we are football fans do you think we cheer when we lose?Your sort will be happy playing in front of Barnet next year with 1500 cheering on the team as they go down 3 0 ,well i wont.

Well said.

Should Scott Go?

I sincerely hope that alarm bells are ringing sufficiently at the Club so that alternative solutions
are being looked at NOW. And that, of course, means they will have to have formed a view NOW about what to do next. Waiting until Christmas to come to a decision could leave us with too big a hole to escape from.

It certainly seems that the quality of football is the main concern of supporters, not the position of the team in League One.

For the last 18 months its been my concern, I don't like losing, but I want to be entertained.

Should Scott Go?

to read all this you would think Brentford is having some kind of full-blown crisis

I was there last night and it was bad but you don't sack the manager because of unattractive football and patchy form!

So if you went out for a meal and it was really horrible would you go back again. I doubt it.

Should Scott Go?

Elimination from the FA Cup was probably the best thing that could have happened.

After two lengthy cup runs, one of them still in progress, the team have played 24 games in 14 weeks, a punishing two-games-a-week regime that no other team in the country has had to sustain (and which is due to continue until the new year). I suspect that several members of the team are running on empty.

What's depressing is not the team's current form, which is understandable, but the baying of the pack determined to bring Scott down.

The season is barely a third of the way through. With the gap between the leading and the trailing groups of teams in L1 narrower at this stage than it's been for years, there is still everything to play for.

Instead of slagging off this or that player, perhaps supporters should be thinking of getting behind the team. That includes the manager.

That is absolute nonsense. Being beaten in the FA Cup has cost us money. If we'd have had enough about us to beat Aldershot, we'd have stood a good chance of beating Dover and getting through to the next round with the really interesting clubs as possible competition. Then there's the possible TV money. Instead we are left with the JPT which probably costs us money.

Instead of slagging off the supporters, maybe you should consider the size of the squad and ask why we have so many players who are knackered this early in the season when the whole idea of having so many footballers on the books is that every position was covered? No need for the same player to be out on the pitch every game if there is cover for that position.

Should Scott Go?

I do listen, but I don't agree. We do not have a big budget, we are not Leeds United. If we were Leeds in this position, calling for the manager to be sacked would be understandable. OK we're not doing fantastic but it's not sackable territory at all.

I have been to 9 games this season, including Bournemouth home a couple of weeks ago and Aldershot last night.

I'd consider sacking the manager if and when we got relegated. We put our faith in him by giving him the budget for a full season so he deserves to be given the full season, we can judge him then.

With comments like these, its no wonder football managers last on average less than 2 years in post. The bloke had 3 great seasons, doesn't he deserve some loyalty and forebearance? Apparently not, you lot are happy to take all the success and as soon as the going gets tough you reach for the shotgun.

If AS does get the sack I will write to him and apologise for this ungrateful negativity, stress that not all fans want him out, and would consider stop watching Bees.

What absolute tosh! Do you understand nothing about football clubs? You don't wait until you are relegated before sacking someone, you get on and sort out the problem BEFORE that happens, not after.

I don't care if Andy Scott has had 10 great seasons with Brentford, he's not having one now. Most people on here are complaining about the unfathomable reasons behind substitutions and the use of players out of position leading to some atrocious football.

Write to Andy Scott all you like and if some people asking for his removal is enough to stop you coming to Brentford...well, words fail me. Go and find a bowls team where there's no dissent.

Sorry Nurse, I fear this is my fault, his lack of ambition makes me angry but it seems to have made you livid.

I don't get why we are still happy with mediocre when so much more is on offer...

Should Scott Go?

As posted above the key point about the FA Cup is that it is the competition where the prize money & TV money is potentially substantial. We have now missed out on that.

Should Scott Go?

Actually where does all this 3 great seasons come from?

AS was a big part of the management team that got us into the mess for which TB was sacked but a good run of a dozen games kept us up.The rest of the season was largely dross. The next season was certainly good. Last season was fortunately saved but could hardly be described as great - 18 points off the playoffs!

In that time there has been no real long-term team building. That is understandable given the risk of giving longer contracts to players in the financial circumstances pertaining at the time. However now the chance to start building is with us and at the moment the front 6 of our team does not, imo, look good for the medium to long term. If it did, I could accept some 'down' periods as the necessary steps towards the development of the team. It is going to take at least 3 or 4 changes to sufficiently improve that front 6 and, given the money already spent, I think that that must be a big worry to MB. We should already be much nearer to seeing that future development taking place now but, imo, we are not.

At this point I would like to remind posters that they should be basing their Scott Out arguements on the unbarca like style of play and the dwindling crowds (although the last word from the board was that crowds were "on budget")
Please drop the "terrible form / we are going to be relegated" line of arguement as we are doing better than at this time last year.

Should Scott Go?

I used to hate getting home whilst X Factor was on, my wife and daughter love this crap you see, now this is my only bit of smily stuff available on a weekend and I can't wait to burst in.

Booo and i knew you were gay, Strictly is much better than X Factor ..................and Brentford

Still relegation form though isn't it !! Same as last year was until we had a revival which pretty much started away at MK Dons on the weekend before Christmas. We could rely on doing the same this year or we could take the view that lightning is unlikely to strike twice and having taken us to the brink of the bottom 4 before Christmas for the second successive season enough is enough.

You seem to be suggesting that our form at this point last year was acceptable which is totally bizarre.

For me the conclusion that Scott is not the man to take the club forward is inescapable so I can't see what good fannying around for another few games before changing the Manager will do.

To be honest I'd get rid of AS and TB now and put Nicky Forster in charge until we can get someone permanent.

Should Scott Go?

This may not satisfy the rabid Andy Scottites but give Scott 3 games to see if we can re discover October's form before putting an untried novice in charge.

To label anyone who disagrees is bizzare.

Not rabid AS but my comment to the "give him 2 more games" or "give him till end of year" this has to be followed up by IF

If we win at Plymouth in the same fashoin as we won at Exeter does that make it better?

If we win the next two games luckily does that mean we need to keep the manager?

If we get to JPT final but get relegated does that mean we have had a good season?

The answer to all the questions above is NO so why are we bothering to keep a manager who has shown that the level his is at is the level of his current expertise. I hope AS becomes a premiership manager the same way as I always hope that players moving on become international players but we as a club have to say this is not good enough

Why does it have to be an untried novice? Scott is on 120k plus bonus, that's a tasty salary at our level.

That's another issue l have with this on budget re crowds.we double Scotts playing budget but expect to play in front of fewer fans, plan for failure in my book.

JT was suggesting Nicky Forster. I was replying with that in mind.
Most seem to be plumping for Allen, Coppell or Holdsworth.
I am not sure any of those will take the job on and do any different so I am sticking with Andy for 3 games.
I know that's bold of me and I expect an improvement in style but I have never been a boo-er.

Someone must have been responsible for lifting the club from the depths of Butcher. I think Andy had a lot to do with that and indeed the League 2 championship.

Was interesting listening to the radio tonight, saying good managers have to learn to exploit "difficult" players, and that the bad managers can't control or exploit their talents, so ignore or cut out them from the squad, thereby creating bad team spirit, again I was hearing Churchbells, I'm ringing churchbells!

Just saying, if you had a line manager like Scott, conceited, vain, blameless and a bit of a bully, would you give 100% or give 60 hoping he'd get the push?

Because half the players are giving less than 50%, and you wonder why?

Hopefully this mess will be over soon, I've been (talking of percentages) 100% Brentford since 6, so I've over 30 years of hurt here.

Please make him go soon! I want my Brentford back, not some ponce in a primark pink jumper.

Well fair enough, I'm not sure Forster was a serious suggestion, only intended to be a stopgap until we can get someone more permanent. I just don't see the point in hanging on to AS much longer. I don't expect anything will happen before Saturday but further poor performances at Plymouth and Colchester and the fat lady has surely cleared her throat and got up on stage and started her first song.

Personally until I see some informed comment on who might actually be available it is difficult to say who would do a better job. I'm not in the Allen camp (never go back) etc. Coppell has retired officially. Holdsworth a gamble certainly but his teams play decent stuff and he is no longer a complete novice.
My preference from what I have seen/heard is Magilton who took Ipswich to within 1 point of the play offs in the Championship in his first full season there as Manager. At least that is some evidence he can manage at the level we need. Scott has so far demonstrated he is a good L2 manager but unable to adapt to L1 requirements.

The argument that we are unlikely to get anyone better doesn't really wash. We need to try. (Unless we are happy to be relegation fodder that is which I suppose is one theory as to why some unambitious fans are unwilling to change) .

There are some strong points on here from the 'sack-him-now' tendency but I can't help feeling that your case would be stronger if many of you hadn't been wanting him sacked on-and-off for the last year, often in circumstances where such a demand was far less understandable than it is at the moment

Should Scott Go?

He's going to be here for at least the next two games whatever anyone says.
I really hope we get 6 points playing gritty, entertaining football.
Then again I'm also hoping Nigella will pop round to my house and gives me a soapy *** ****.

The last time I felt as strongly as I do now that he should go was on the 5th December 2009 after yet another goalless away performance at Tranmere. After that game we had managed to score a total of 1 goal in 9 consecutive away games and were plummeting towards relegation. He did turn things round after that but we are back to the same stuff again this year and personally I think he has already used his get out of jail free card last year. This boom and bust form can't go on year after year.

I would ask those of you who want him to stay two questions.

1. Do you think he can keep us up this year.
2. Do you think he can get us to a position in the future to challenge at the top end of the table.

If the answer to BOTH of these questions is not YES then we are just wasting time delaying the inevitable.

I just dont get this sh*t Smiffy. Butcher had been in Australia and was saddled with a No2 he did not choose, 24 days before the one he would have chosen would have been free to join him as he has since done at Inverness.

Scott was that No2 and his knowledge of players in the SE was paramount in his appointment. Brown, Mackie and Thorpe were his signings. They were sh*t all three of them. People think that cos Brown played in Scotland that he was Butchers man and thats just nonsense. So Butcher was lumbered with a spine of a team that was sh*t. All Scot signings! There was also Glenn Poole, Ricky Shakes and Alan Connell all signed on Scott's recommendation.

Scott was telling members of the Board then that it was only a matter of time before fortunes changed for Butchers side but outside of the Board room it was rumoured all was not well between the two and that Butcher felt Scott was undermining him at every opportunity. Butcher lasted effectively from Aug to Dec without bringing in one player that you would say was his own choice. Our Loan signings were Hamer, Starosta, Basey, Pettigrew and Sammy Moore. Were they Butchers recomendations?

The love in has to stop and the nonsense about where Butcher was taking us has to be balanced with who brought the majority of players to Butchers team.
You can go on till you are blue in the face but the fact is we would never have gone down that season. Never! There were three clubs in absolute meltdown who were always going to finish below us regardless of what you and Wanderer Paul say.

Butcher has now proven in Scotland again what he is capable of and its strange that he failed at all English clubs he has managed given what he has done. But ffs lets give the Butcher baiting a rest!

Scott has done no more or less since than what Butcher has done and yet Butcher is plying his trade in the Scotish Premier League. thats football.

Its the here and now that counts and Scott should have gone after Rochdale when it was clear we were not shaping up to achieve the target set.
He has had a decent recovery in October but we are now out of both Cups, nothing but safety to play for in the league and a chance against a better team in the JPT.

It all spells failure imho and if you fail you fall.

Its TIME for a change. Not in two games, NOW.
Give Bully the two games to ensure an appointment is made early enough for the new man to scout some players for January window and to assess current squad and who he will want to move on.

Interesting points and possibly food for thought about the Scott role during the Butcher period.

I find it difficult to believe that Butcher wasn't entirely complicit in the signing of Simon Brown who I think he would have known plenty about . Mackie's Orient connections however suggest Scott influence as you say and we have seen numerous other poor signings since - when did we last have a player that was worth something on the transfer market - under Martin Allen thats when !

Obviously AS has to take credit for the L2 Championship season but that has been and gone and we are in a different league now with different requirements.

you assume we DON'T get behind the team, and i find that offensive. how the hell do you know this? i go to every game i can and have been doing so since 1975. i have never booed any brentford team or player. i shout myself hoarse at games.
"perhaps supporters should be thinking of getting behind the team"????? s/he hardly ever turns out to support the bees and accused fellow fans of blinkered prejudice. and this talk of the baying of the pack- i salute my fellow bees for their patience, i have not heard a single "scott out" through all the utter bilge we have had to endure. do NOT confuse message board comments with support at games.

Revisionist history.....Scott done well for the club after the departure of Butcher and by getting us out of league 2.
It's clear he has signed some duds in his time, but accessed some gems too.

ROB seems to cite Glenn Poole and Alan Connell as examples of bad Scott business.
I 'll leave you with that thought.

Appalling, what a foul dinosaur,if I was the Orient chairman I would sack him on the spot.
They did very quickly after that and not surprisingly he struggled for work in the game afterwards.
