Reading go in front thanks to some terrible marking by Villa from Stephen Hunt's corner

The guy who couldn't cross now takes corners in the Premiership. Amazing transformation.

You can tell by his work rate, his personality that the guy is just so keen to go as far as he can.

Wouldn't supise me if he trains 24/7

A great role model.

Good luck to him, always good to see a good guy get good things.

Hi guys, Ireland fan here was just wondering what were your thoughts on Hunty.

Hunt has been a breath of fresh air this season, both for Reading and Ireland (but not for Petr Cech of course :) ). But before this season no Irish fan could truly say they’d heard of him, which is strange considering Irish players in England get big media coverage over here, regardless of what league they're in.

Did he show much potential when playing for Brentford? Did he look like a Premiership or International player?

Best of luck in getting out of League Two next season, except when Notts County are the opposition!

Hunty will always succeed because he is a hungry winner with a great attitude.Combine that with ability and a good manager who can get the best out of you as in Mr Coppell and you have the correct ingrediants for success.

To be fair he has exceeded my expectations and i wish him the best of luck

As you say dunphy 'a breath of fresh air'.

Has frightened many defences by running at (rather than around) them.

I expected Stephen to 'top-out' with a good Championship club. The fact that he is a regular in a good Premiership side is a credit to him and his (bloody good) manager.

I am absolutely delighted for him as he is one of the most pleasant guys I have met in my many years of supporting Brentford.

Never looked like he would reach Premiership IMO, let alone become an international. He split opinion somewhat at Griffin Park, a good dribbler and very useful on his day, but his final ball would often let him down - which I thought would hold him back from reaching a higher level. However, always put in 100% and ran his socks off and delighted to see him progress so much!

I didn't rate him much which shows how much I know. Good luck to him.

One of the biggest surprises that he has made it into the Premiershite and into the Irish team and maybe its a matter of "making hay while the sun shines" but good luck to him...deserves all the success he gets.

I didn't think he was good enough to play at the top level, but I loved him as a player. Really loved him. Played with all the enthusiasm for the game and the shirt that we fans have. And who can forget his goal at York City?

An Irish fan with the surname Dunphy!lol
Any relation?
God how I miss going to games and listening to Eamonn's little gems.

Hunty is doing well for a good Manager who believes in him, and for that matter always has believed in him. A confidence player with a very good engine and work rate for a winger. (Wish he could give old Bouffont Head a few lessons!)
Will be excellent cover for Damien Duff and a far better player IMO than the Celtic kid.

Stephen Hunt (retired)

No relation to our Eamon thankfully :)

I was at the Wales game, which was God awful, with Damien Duff having his usual 'mare. With ten mins left Duff was switched right and Hunty came on, and what a difference he made. He attacked the full-back every time, drew foul after foul, and two bookings for the Welsh. The game was lacking in class, he actually had a shout for man of the match!

Thought he'd get the start against Slovakia, but McGeady got the shout instead, thats what you get when you've a spud as a manager. Very average player, and completely right-footed.

Duff is definately feeling the pressure from Hunty, as he upped his game against the Slovaks. I'd play both of them, put Duff on the right.

has surprised me but I was a real Hunt fan but to be honest any player not rated by ourselves will go on to do well

Pity MA didn't think much of him...told him he wasn't good enough !!:fishing:

Hopefully he'll continue his form into next season. The Royals look a decent bet for Europe next season, so they'll be strengthening in the summer. Also with Bobby Convey coming back, he's gonna need to remain on top form.

Cheers for the feedback lads, and good luck for next season. Moving to London in July, so I'll make sure I pay Griffin Park a visit on at least one occasion!

I see Mr Hunt has just signed a new contract at Reading. He's apparantly going to be on 35K a week. Who'd have thought that a few years ago

Shocking tackle today, maybe going to be punished after video evidence

Stephen Hunt (retired)

I don't think he can be; ref saw it and booked him - post-match punishments are meant to be for things the ref missed

Didn't Thatcher get booked for his assault? Then later charged again. I'm sure that was a precedent set for future yellows to be re-examined. :fishing:

It was a shocking tackle and the bloke was lucky to get up and play on. I know Hunty was a fiesty little player for us but I never saw him do anything like that.

Didn't he get sent off on his debut (at Bournemouth?) for a bad tackle?

Stephen Hunt (retired)

I thought the same. He got sent off for a two footed lunge at bmouth after having scored twice. He mis-timed the odd tackle but his character seems to have changed in the last year or so. He seems to be racking a catalogue of bad tackles, confrontations and reactions to the crowd. For someone who was known as a 100%'er with a heart of gold he is building up a reputation as being a nasty little sh1t a bit like dennis wise (obviously nowhere near as bad as that but I am sure you get the point)

Make your mind up!

Sadly it seems to have fueled the fire with some people over the Cech incident. Jason Cundy had a field day saying about his previous and Chelsea mongs were happy to back him up. An awful tackle from a player I wish we'd never let go.

Stephen Hunt (retired)

judging by his reaction I dont think he meant to hurt him, I trust Hunt as an honest lad

Stephen Hunt (retired)

I think Hunt, along with most of his other team mates has been sussed by other Prem clubs.Ive seen snippets of his play this season and its poor compared to last.I also keep and eye on his reports in the papers and the last few games have been 4's and 5's.Coppells got £10m to spend in January,it wont buy much these days.Hes scared stiff of breaking the team pay structure and therefore morale, but hes got to do something in Jan as they will continue to struggle.Shame the flame haired midfielder left, hes badly missed

Stephen Hunt (retired)

Was a very bad tackle, more mistimed than anything I think.

At what point in the 'timing' of a tackle is your foot supposed to be studs up and thigh high?

As an ex-Bee it's understandable to give Hunt the benefit of the doubt for a while, but that was unforgiveable.

As well as the sending off at Bournemouth, didn't he get a Bournemouth player sent off at GP, when he decided to run at their defence having been given possession at a dropped ball - which their player not unreasonably wasn't very amused by?

Yes, the last bit is true. We all laughed at the time but it was questionable

Christ, get a f**king life why don't you. He's an honest tenacious player sadly missed at this club. TalkSport were sh.it mongering on Monday morning by presenters who are paid to court controversy. To compare Hunt to Dennis Wise discredits the sanity of your post.
