On paper, Macclesfield was a straightforward tie, so Attwell should be a great leveller. :sorted:

Was just about to post the same thing. Don't think he actually hates Brentford, just completely incompetent. I just hope he doesn't read the GPG

I am sure it was Attwell. he really got a real slagging off on TalkSport for something he did in his last match but for the life of me can't remember what game it was!

Was it the Wigan v West Ham game?

Lawro gave him a slating on MOTD, and said maybe he should take a break.

I am not 100% sure, I can't find the list where he was last week:sad::D

Thought I saw him hiding in the background as fourth official in a premier league match.

Stuart Attwell

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Attwell could easily go either way.

Stuart Attwell

Actually, and totally unintended, Atwell did us a huge favour.
Would AS have gone out to sign Rhodes on loan if Elder had not been suspended?
7 goals, and a few assists later, we were very grateful that the lad joined us.
And then, when Rhodes got injured the lad put in a word to Billy Clarke, that may well have played a part in him joining us as well.
Let us hope that, whatever Atwell gets up to , it somehow benefits us again!:)

4th official at the Spurs v Liverpool game...I see he sent off Sammy Lee for protesting too much over the "contraversial" penalty incidents...went up a bit in my estimation for doing that.

Mind you didn't realise the 4th official could send anybody off, thought only the ref could do that.

Er....it was the ref that did it

More on Attwell's role in events here:

Benítez was asked what he thought of the referee's overall performance. He remained tight-lipped but theatrically took off his spectacles and held them up for inspection. The non-award for the Assou-Ekotto handball shout brought the red mist down on Sammy Lee, the Liverpool assistant manager. He directed a volley of abuse at the fourth official Stuart Attwell, who is a relative rookie at the age of 26, and, at one point, Benítez had to step in to separate the pair. Lee could not remain quiet and, after continued protests, he was sent to the stands.

"The fourth official is a young referee and maybe he needs to calm down a bit," said Benítez. "He is too young. Sammy will be banned from the touchline but the only thing with Sammy is that he cannot score goals for us. So hopefully Torres will do his job."

In charge of Everton v Wolves today :)

For a complete and utter **** he's appears to have done very well for himself!

BBC described the late sending off as baffling. He really needs to get to the chapter on foul play quickly.

....................modelling himself on Mr D'Urso...................

.........................absolutely laughable the sending-off at Everton yesterday - if anyone should have gone, it ought to have been Howard for attacking Maierhof(sp?)..............

.................about time that Attwell gave up his ambition to be a referee, and went back to piano tuning for Winifred................

Stuart Attwell

He's their golden boy. Expect McCarthy to be charged for criticising the referee.

Cahill should have gone as well.

Refereeing the liverpool game tonight!! Still a ****!!

Stuart Attwell

Alan Green "Free kick but there was no contact there, I suppose that's what you get with Stuart Atwell refereeing"

Seriously how has he still got a job as a professional ref?

welcome to Brentford Stuart :sorted:

Stuart Attwell

Oh dear. How he can be so sh*t and still be praised etc. is beyond me.

Saw the liverpool game yesterday....how did Gerrard stay on the pitch? :(!

Stuart Attwell

Really quite unbelievable - what is wrong with the administrators of our game? They manage to support the unsupportable time and time again!

Of course there is the world of difference between sending Gerrard off at Anfield & Elder at Griffin Park!

Attwell's career is beginning to look suspiciously like Poll's early career & look what happened with him later. We have years of this to look forward to - what a thought!

Bearing in mind, this lapse was widely reported, I think Attwell will have been marked down by a few in the FA.
They stuck to their rules and didn't criticise in public, but am am sure they would have mentioned the elbow and punishment to Mr Attwell at some stage.

At least he is in the Prem and not in L1 :sorted:

Smiffy,

I agree with your last line, but if Attwell is getting criticism behind the scenes - which personally I doubt - it is not having any effect. Few referees can have achieved such a high profile for so many major clangers in such a short space of time, but he is still being picked to referee Premiership games. Frankly that is ridiculous & I can imagine what Ferguson would have said if Gerrard had done a similar thing in a game v MU & Liverpool had gone on to win!

One fan's summation of a lower profile game 'ref'd' by Attwell a couple of games ago was along the lines of 'ref'd by a YTS student' - sums it up for me.

Stuart Attwell

the fa are too proud to admit they've made a mistake 'fast tracking' the bloke and will never get rid of him.

Agree....Made another balls up tonight in the sending off judging by the comments on the radio. Can you name any other ref to have made such bad press the last three years, just speak to any Derby, Watford, Reading, Wigan, Brentford, Forest, (add various) fan.

I've just seen it and it looks very, very harsh. The side view shows the little rat going straight to his pocket to brandish the red:rolleyes:...couldn't get the card out quick enough. The player looked stunned :(

Stuart Attwell

I don't like Attwell, but I think around 50% of current refs would have produced a red card for Caldwell last night. It wasn't a double-footed lunge, but the leading foot was studs first and high, then his other leg hooked Tevez down in a scissor movement. I'd have said a yellow was enough, but I've seen red for less than that, and doubt if an appeal would succeed
