Fernando Torres pounces, collects the loose ball and runs through on goal before squaring it for Dirk Kuyt to beat a stunned Mignolet. Referee Stuart Atwell is going to get a lot of stick for that.

I fail to understand how this 'fast-tracking' of golden chosen young individuals can lead to anything other than resentment among colleagues. As well as players, fans, everyone really...

Who knows, but this consequence of FA arrogance (who will simply not admit they're wrong re: this fast track policy) is of great benefit to us.

I hope he stays in the Premier League for a long time, because:-

1. His incompetence and the incredible variety of goals it is creating is making MOTD far more entertaining.

2. While he is in the Premier League, he is out of our hair.

"You're not fit to referee" is a well-worn terrace cliche, but Attwell fits the description perfectly. If anything, he seems to be worse this season as well.

I think he's fantastic fun and long may he stay in the Premiership. The last thing we want is for him to slip back down the leagues. :)

Interesting that Gerrard's collision was deemed a yellow card and yet Nathan got a 4 game ban wasn't it?

I don't like the boy in the slightest but having seen this a couple of times I don't think he's wrong......Turner actually was with the ball a yard or two back from where the kick was to be taken when he kicked the ball backs a few yds.....If the goalie was to take it, he should've come up the pitch.....maybe it will teach players to take kicks where they should! As for the pen - a def pen (no liverpool players complained) and Hodgson (who I like - despite having worked for the scum) says it was a compensatory pen......feeling the pressure??

turner has messed up bigtime here, the ref may have told him to take it without a whistle so cant blame him really, wellbeck should have had a pen and gerrard maybe a red but those were both 50/50

Caught a bit of Five Live today and Garth Crooks & Sanchez were giving him a major thumbs down. Not sue if this is good though :(

It does look like the powers that be are running out of patience. I don't keep much of an eye on refs, but I understand there is another young referee in the Premier League who has had one or two off-days but is on the whole far more competent.
