I don't like Attwell, but I think around 50% of current refs would have produced a red card for Caldwell last night. It wasn't a double-footed lunge, but the leading foot was studs first and high, then his other leg hooked Tevez down in a scissor movement. I'd have said a yellow was enough, but I've seen red for less than that, and doubt if an appeal would succeed

Totally disagree, only just a foul. Ridiculous descision. Tevez studs were higher.

Stuart Attwell

I think that he is a twonk but didn't he scissor him a bit last night, wasn't it a bit like Nasty Niven at Chesterfield on our Icelandic sensation? Obviously not as bad as that but he seemed to end up with two legs wrapped around him, it was a sh*t tackle to be fair.

We're not here to be fair though. We're here to pillory the useless little c*** :sorted:

lol

He (Attwell) said it was for a two footed tackle as well, which says something. Because whether it was worth a red or not, it certainly wasn't that...

Gary Neville or Paul Scholes wouldn't even have been booked for that tackle. There will also be a number of similar tackles in the P'Ship this weekend that go totally unremarked upon. Attwell allowed himself no time to think or assess the situation similar to the Elder incident.

Saw Dermot Gallagher defending Attwell on Sky tonight. Apparently SA 'lost confidence' in the last third of last season and the FA gave him intensive training in the close season to bring him back up to scratch. According to DG he has had 14 games with no problems this season!!

I respect DG but he's obviously forgotten about Gerrard's elbow. He also said that Caldwell's tackle was a red card, so how DG only gave a yellow to the Sunderland guy who shattered Diaby's leg is beyond me? But I guess he's just trying to defend a fellow referee.

The fact that a referee that the FA nominated to FIFA needed extra training shows imo, that they think that he has not been up to the job, but also that the FA will not admit that they've made a mistake by promoting him far too quickly. Sadly we're likely to have him inflicted on us for quite a number of years to come!!

When do refs ever admit they have made a mistake?

He is "one of their own" and they will defend him to the hilt, same with Mike Dean who prances around as if he is gods gift to football, gives more penalties and red cards than any other referee and yet is lauded as our best.

the best refs are those you don't notice..

I think it's one of the most difficult things to do to defend a fellow colleague in public when deep down DG probably thinks the same as most of us about SA. Sadly this happens in all walks of life and in my profession (teaching) I have had to do the same in the past to parents with incompetent colleagues. Mind you, hope they do they same for me in return :)

Back to normal...absurd sending off of Cahill for Bolton at Arsenal.....having seconds earlier missed a very obvious foul on a Bolton player.

Stuart Attwell

Just seen Cahill dismissal. Attwell just has to go. He is the most incompetent ref it's ever been my misfortune to watch. How does he get away with this level of performance?

Stuart Attwell

tw*ttwell at his best again
anyone that knows anything about football, knew it was a fail 2 seconds before Cahill got sent off
Coyle:rolleyes:

Stuart Attwell

...he is the one thing you want in a ref....consistent...

Stuart Attwell

4th official today in the Birmingham v Liverpool game. Got his moment in front of the cameras when Stevie G had a bloody ear.
I think he loves the notoriety and could go into politics soon.
Or be a traffic warden.

David Elleray is trying to get this muppet fast-tracked as a European referee as well!

1)EU citizens have the right to work anywhere with the EU.

2)It will give Platini another reason to hate us:idea:

3)The rest of Europe will be able to see what all the fuss is about

Stuart Attwell

If they win does that mean Attwell will get demoted to the FL (and possibly one of our games)?
He'll probably be put in charge of Man Utd v Liverpool

Stuart Attwell

... or even Bristol Rovers v MK Dongs; that would be entertaining!

Stuart Attwell

I hate Attwell but Cahill went through from behind and didn't get the ball. This type of challenge has been a sending off offence for quite a few seasons. The theatrics of the Gooner were embarrassing.

I agree with this, it was a foul, it was from behind and it was with exessive (sp) force and reasonably dangerous, however Attwell should have given the foul on the edge of Arsenals box 10 seconds earlier and we wouldnt have this headache.

I know what you're saying and that should have been a free kick to Bolton but two wrongs don't make a right. Cahill immediately pointed to the foul on his colleague once Attwell showed the red card which makes me think there was an element of retribution in his challenge.

Stuart Attwell

Described by the Guardian today as "a demonstration of how not to referee".

There's a big difference between the nasty challenges made from behind that you're talking about and the Cahill tackle IMO. Just seen it for the first time, if challenges like those merit a red card then there'd be 3 - 4 sendings off in every game.

Stuart Attwell

I really want Attwell to come a cropper but I bet the FA back the tw-at

Stuart Attwell

I was at the Emirates on Saturday and he is like a ticking time bomb, you know he is going to go off but it is just a question of when!

I see that Cahill is appealing against his very harsh red card - my bet is that the FA support the ref - yet again.

Stuart Attwell

How many appeals are successful? Not many

Nail hit firmly on the head. The appeal is rejected

the golden boy gets a pat on the head, keep up the good work dickhead

interesting that the appeal wasn't deemed frivolous...

Not sure about the pat on the head. I can see those tossers at the head of the FA spluttering into there G & T's and saying "Well Mr tw*twell we've backed you up yet again but this can't go on any more, next cock-up and your a gonner" .....well at least we hope that's what was said

This is the FA we are dealing with. They will not admit they are wrong/have done wrong.

So Mr Cahill, your guilty but in a not guilty sort of way.:D

The FA might be accused of many things but corruption wouldn't be one of them as far as I know.

Shatwell is the anointed one, and therefore he has got to do something atrocious to attract sanction.
I presume that noncing the mascot would be the minimum requirement.
It would appear that the old buffers will put up with almost anything rather than admit that they have backed the wrong horse.

was it not attwell who gave the phantom goal? Was he also in charge of the game where he cancelled a legit goal?

I expect that's what they said about the last 6 and will about the next 6 :(

Yes.

Watford V Reading the ghost goal

Derby V Forest the dissallowed goal.

:sorted:

Love to say he had completed the set with Palace (non) goal at Brizzle but he wasn't even there.

Stuart Attwell

The overall message that has now been sent out to all 20 Premier League clubs is not to bother appealing against any of Attwell's decisions, as the FA will back him to the hilt no matter what.

I would argue that Attwell's presence as a referee is now politicised, with every error he makes seen as an indictment on the FA's judgement, so they're covering themselves more than anything else. On the bright side, the longer he is in the Premier League, the less that the rest of us have to put up with his mediocrity.

Stuart Attwell

Interesting that the Robinson tackle on Diaby that has injured him was also reviewed by Attwell, and he thinks he was right to not even give a foul.

Prize ****.

Absolutely right. They accuse the Russians of that. I'm just glad everyone's forgotten why Graham Kelly left the FA.
