The Gary Smith thread

Sounds pretty good news to me... what is his distribution like? Is he more of an attacking midfielder?
Questions i have in my mind... who is going to play on the left wing?
Some have been calling for another striker, but it sounds like Connell is going to end up proving his worth. What with the Ide option as well, it looks like we have it covered.
I agree - a fast centre half is what is needed.

Very good passer, he's made the play and took all the set pieces when I've seen him. Wouldn't say he was attacking though, Moore is though :)

Poole, only on the field a short time last night but was up to speed with the link up play of Ide, Connell and Moore very quickly.

A hardworking skillful midfielder who can keep the ball. He can hold or attack as far as I have seen.

Connell has been playing left wing and getting forward to help, very skillful but not physical, I think glen poole is the out and out left winger but has been injured.

I can not find him on soccerbase, but then they still have rhodes, tomlin(!!!) and fitzgerald (!!!!!!!!!!) down as our players!

I think it may be a wednesday this time because it's the 1st of a month and the start of a new pay deal. Saved us a months salary trialing him for this long. ;)

Only a 1 yr deal... I guess at 23 he's too young for a 2yr one!! :D

All beginning to sound a little more positive, though still worried about defence and attack.. Looking forward to Sat's game now though.. :)

Its not worth the risk at this club offering a two year contract.:wave:

It is quite strange but who knows..... perhaps GS only wants a year and to have a look but although I don't know much about him I sort of would have prefered a 2 yr for this one rather than some of the others.
MK fans rate him, I seem to recall him playing well against us so I'm hopeful of a good signing. Even some GPGers have been impressed so after cross referencing them with who rates Brooker it all looks good.;)

Glad to see that Smith has signed............ maybe 2 more pieces of the jigsaw to find now, a CB and a CF!!

Maybe he's the one who decided that a 1 year deal was enough - he might be on a lower wage than he'd ideally like.

After the glimpses I saw of this lad pre-season, I thought he'd be bossing our midfield but he's barely got off the bench. Also thought today he'd be first choice replacement for a midfielder but Poole came on instead.

Surprised tbh - he looked to have a bit of quality but I guess it's a testament to Mous, KOC and Moore that he's not getting a look in.

Agreed, Les. I think that it's been a case of Butcher not wanting to drop players who have played well. Smith looked to be the business in the pre-season games I saw. Maybe he'll get his chance next week, with O'Connor moving up front while Thorpe is suspended?

is this guy gay i was reading brentford's player profiles on wikipedia and found this on gary smith profile
After impressing in numerous games in pre-season whilst on trial at Brentford, Smith was offered and signed a contract at Griffin Park.

He is also a keen angler and can be commonly seen out on the river trying to catch a tasty bit of trout for his supper Paul is gay

I'm surprised though that Gary hasn;t started a game yet, maybe tomorrow at Swindon? looked best player pre season then hasn;t had a chance to play.

probably needs a run of games but you cant really change an unbeaten team (league form) or your a brave man if you do?

Could Smith and Mousinho play in the same side? Get the feeling their bit similar?

You can if you're going to improve it and I think in the long run Smith will do that. Smith and Mousinho are quite different, they both do the hustle and bustle thing but Smith is good on the ball and is able to pick out passes and execute them.. I think Smith and Moore could be an excellent CM partnership for us.. :sorted:

I have a dream…….. A player gets surprisingly released by his club and ends up with a club in the same division. We see that he can play a bit but an injury prevents him from starting the season and as the others do well he then struggles to get a game with his new club. Due to suspension he gets his chance and a legendary Brentford career begins, step forward Gary Smith.:sorted:

You could argue we had one central midfielder on the pitch, with a right back and a centre half playing in central midfield.

But only if you were being mischievous :fishing:

Pead & O'Connor have played mainly as a RB though in the last few years & Petttigrew is a CB. We seem to be converting bodies to CM, when we already have Smith. :confused:

that is not mischievious it is a fact. Pettigrew is a CB and oconnor is a RB.

Why is smith not getting a sniff?, I thought he looked our best player pre season and was glad we signed him but if the intention is to have him sitting around with his thumb up his ar5e then we should have got another forward in!

It's the strategy that will get us promoted. It will be impossible to plan your tactics against us. TB knows what he is doing.

Don't forget for parts of Sunday we had a centre back playing centre forward, a right back playing in midfield and then as a striker.

Mousinho is playing in goal against the MK Dons on Saturday. ;)
