The Marcus Bean thread

I am of the opinion that the best CM partnership is Bean & KOC. Due to Bean's injury we started with Hunt & KOC, and it appears that Scott feels that both have played well enough to start ahead of Bean.

It could be that Scott is being cautious in the higher league as both Hunt and KOC tend to sit deeper than Bean does, especially away from home. Hunt has the long throw & probably set pieces over Bean, but I think other than that Bean is the better player. I also think the Bean & KOC complement one another better than Hunt/KOC do.

I think overall that due in part to injuries and the wholesale changes in the squad since last season, the starting eleven this season is still evolving & that Scott's ideal staring 11 is different in probably 3, 4 or even 5 places different from the 11 that started on Saturday.

I think that by the time things have settled down, Bean will be one of those changes & will be in the starting 11.

I also think that having Bean in the team will bring out the best in Cort, he'll be further up the pitch than Hunt or KOC when Cort has the ball and will give Cort another passing option - I don't think Hunt or KOC's support the strikers as well as Bean does/would.

I know one thing...Andy Scott knows more than us lot so I think we should trust his judgement!

Brilliant post. Totally agree.

Have you got something against punctuation?

Yeah but then you end up with semi colons. After you have harvested the .... what do you do with all the spare commas? :D

We sell them to the French - much in demand n'est pas?

...............after a run out today will hopefully be playing Saturday................

The Marcus Bean thread

you missed out that up until June 07 he played 78 games, he was sub(16) times but scored 31 goals for Wolves, he then played about 15 games for 2 relegated teams Leicester and Norwich in 2 seasons:shrug:

I think you will find my post said he has scored about 3 league goals in 2 seasons, I did not say 20 games in three seasons or whatever you have responded to.

The fact is that the injuries have taken their toll and although he has a good touch and holds it up well it is just not working at the moment. We will not lose out by trying something else, he can still come in if we need him.

He has had about 10 half chances with his head and only one has worked the keeper so far this season. Injuries have dictated circumstance and he is not doing a heskey IMO.

From various other threads it is apparent that I am far from alone in wanting Marcus to be given a run out. Has he done something to upset AS?

I thought he had an injury and that AS was being cautious in bringing him back slowly.

Doubt it. It's probably more that we've not had a bad start and Hunt hasn't really done anything wrong so it'd be hard to change things. He didn't look 100% at Charlton but at Hudders he was prepared to put his foot in and do his shift. Long throws didn't work but taking them is presumably orders from the manager, not his fault. There were also one or two other changes yesterday, maybe AS didn't want to make too many at one go. Midfield yesterday looked good.

Agree. AS has a general policy it seems that if you have the shirt you tend to keep it until lesser performances lead to a change. Keeping team spirit up is a big thing with this squad and as a result being fair to your players I would guess is high on the agenda.

Fair enough, but I think we really need Bean to come back in. Really hope we see him this sat.

He must start, every week I think he'll be back and every week I am wrong.

Totally agree. We are home and need to start being more positive after a run of games of where we needed to be more defensive. Bristol ROvers will be a tough game and maybe AS will stick with Hunt, but we have some fixtures coming up where in theory we should be enjoying more opportunities to get forward and Bean is far more dangerous than Hunt in that respect.

I agree (obviously), and I have to say that I'm not convinced that Hunt offers us more defensive stability. Bean is excellent at breaking up play IMO, and his presence makes life much more difficult for opposition teams because of his energy and speed to close down.

So fingers crossed, cos I'm already having premonitions about a winning goal by a certain ex player of ours on Sat... :(

I suspect that mhead bee won't agree but I still can't see why Bean, Hunt and KOC can't play together in the same midfield. Capello recognises that Lampard and Barry are a good CM combination and that Gerrard is a better footballer than say Ashley Young or James Milner although the latter may have better claims as wingers. It could be argued that Bean is a better all round footballer than Weston, Taylor or Saunders and is hence worth his place in a slightly different shape of team without breaking up the solid CM partnership of Hunt and KOC.

Yes, I want Bean back ASAP but Hunt and KOC have also generally played well so far this season.

No balance playing 3 central midfielders, all lacking any real pace or creativity in the same team. I think we'd be falling over each other in the centre circle with huge gaps elsewhere.

Bean defends, tracks back, tackles, breaks up play, goes box to box and beyond when attacking, wins and scores headers, scores goals with his feet and works his arse off. KOC and Hunt can't do all of that together let alone on their own.

:imwith:

Really want to see Bean back on Sat.

The Marcus Bean thread

if hes fit he should be playing alongside Kevin.

Bean brings the best out of Kevin it allows Bean to go forward and Kev do the clearing up and conhtrolling. Hunt only brings throwins and set peices to the match, and weve only scored 1nce or twice from his throws and 3 or 4 from his set peices.

Bean scored i think 8 or 9 goals last year?? He is a threat and was looking like an excellent player.

Seeing that he was part of the reserve team last night I doubt if he will be considered for a start against Rovers.

Personally I can't understand why, maybe he has upset Mr. Scott.:fishing:

Alternatively as he came off after 69 mins perhaps he was just getting a gentle run out in anticipation of 90 mins this Saturday

People keep hinting this with, as far as I can see, no substance.

My impression is that those who upset AS do not last very long, either in the playing staff or back room staff.

If we wanted rid of Marcus Bean I don't doubt he would be gone.

I went to the game and don't think he'll be too tired as he barely left the centre circle

What did he play like?
Did he look fit?
Also, who were our star players in your opinion, please?

We need him back now. Hunt is a useful stopgap in injury situations but apart from the odd free kick and one throw that has led to a goal, his contribution has been fairly average. Not doubting his effort but in this division, we need a bit more.

I wouldn't say he's been average as such. He's been excellent in a couple of games Ive seen. Trouble is both Hunt and Kev are both more defensive midfielders with their main focus being to protect the back four and maintain our possession.

Both been doing their jobs well and I'd say the reason Bean hasn't got back into the side is simply because barring Huddersfield which I didn't see so can't comment on, Hunt doesn't deserve to be dropped based on his performances.

Having said that though I don't think it'll be too long before Bean does replace Hunt in the midfield as we all know the extra attacking benefits he brings to the side along with very competent defending.

If we continue to not perform so great up front then he may well come back into the side to help our attacking options

The Marcus Bean thread

i thought he would be one of the first 4 or 5 names on the teamsheet week in week out this season with or without new signings.

i suppose we cannot play all three away from home ?

1) Nor would I.

2) I sort of agree but Glenn Poole was on fire last season until Wood showed that he was a better player. GP was unlucky to dropped but a better player must play IMO, Bean is a better player.

3) Hopefully this weekend.:sorted:

The Marcus Bean thread

The Bean would have been one of most supporters' top two players last season; at worst he was the fourth name on the team sheet. Would anyone seriously have put Hunt or KO'C on the sheet before him :nono: We haven't added to the squad in his space, so if he's fit he should play, simple as that.

Play the Bean and he will score (well at least once every five games), not to mention

Just found this interesting quote in The London Paper (not the most reliable of newspapers I know) in the Bees section of "the club scene":

Marcus Bean is hoping the Bees will be "forthcoming with an offer" when his contract at Griffin Park expires next summer.

Could be causing some friction ?

Certainly did, it was like having an extra player on the pitch once he came on.

I said before the game to mates that I was going to boo Scott if Bean wasn't in the team. It was tongue in cheek but I'm yet to find a fan who doesn't think Bean should always start when fit. He is the most influential player we have FFS and we should let him know if he does it again.
Scott has been given the plaudits and rightly so but we were insulted yesterday by him and he needs to know that. We were torn apart and bullied in midfield yesterday, who knows if Bean would have changed that first half. KOC and Hunt are/were an accident waiting to happen and we let it fecking happen.
