Why would anyone want the Brentford job, with a Board that has sacked more bosses than won games, no budget, a sh*te team on long contracts and heading towards the Conference..

I think you lot are clutching at straws..you might have to go down to The Sunday West Middlesex League to find someone..

Spoken like a true Bees fan!!! lol

Whoever we get, it should be someone we can stick with, even if we go down. Someone we can give time to, to make their own squad, and hopefully bring us back up if necessary. We can't continue to sack a manager every 6 months. That's just nuts.

Even if they are as clueless as Rosenior and Butcher? How about looking higher up Reggie (i.e. Dyke)

As for Fitzgerald's dismissal, that was pointless and uncalled for and that was just Dyke proving a pathetic point that he is in charge.

The New Manager Thread

I would welcome back Martin even if it meant he subsequently buggered off in the summer. This club needs a lift and he is the only man who can provide it. If you read this Martin, you know it makes sense. P.S. Don't bring Big George with you.

The New Manager Thread

Martin Allen if he'd come back. Neale Cooper if not.

At least with our Bees United representatives on the board the wishes of the fans should carry some real weight :fishing:

I don't disagree with you. They absolutely need to look into the correct way of publically disembowelling themselves, preferably as the half time entertainment at the Wrexham game. :)

But my point still stands we need to get someone who we can stand by, relegated or not. They have to be given a chance to build their own team. I'm not saying it should have been that way with LR or TB, but when they hire this time I yhink they need to take the longer view.

not sure how serious your post is, but to a lot of people we would still be an attractive proposition - admittedly 90% of the names bandied about are pie in the sky, including MA and Steve Cotterill I reckon, but we're a league team, with a relatively recent success at this level (P/O finals, semis, FA cup runs) and an above average media profile at this level.

As Noades said when he took over from Webb, "They would have taken to anybody given what they'd been through previously" or words to that effect, and if someone came in, steadied the ship (presumably because they "saw it as their job to motivate") and got a few wins, then we'd be shouting their name from the roof tops pretty quickly.

Someone confident in their abilities would see us as a great way to launch or kick start a career. I'd like us to be looking at an ambitious current asst manager, preferably who's on or been through that Warwick business course. A lesser light Boothroyd sort of figure.

Statistics. :nono: More people don't want him than do.

Depends which poll you use. The one on the other thread is about 5:1 in his favour !

"There are lies, damn lies and statistics"

There are always plenty of applicants for this type of job. We haven't been short of applicants on the previous 3 occasions, just managed to screw it up each time by appointing the wrong ones.

It would help improve the calibre of the candidates though if we weren't offering nearly the lowest managerial salary in the division. One for BU to sort out if they care about it.

What about Rowan Alexander or Bassett?

At the time of writing 46.51 say Martin Allen and 3.88% say anyone but AS. Martin Allen is included in "anyone but AS" and therfore takes it over the 50% mark!!!!

If you are reading this Mr Allen sir, please come back!

It hasnt stopped us in the pastlol lol lol lol

But my point still stands we need to get someone who we can stand by, relegated or not.

Losing our league status after over 100 years in the Football League is unthinkable.

Relegation is not the same as League 1 to 2, it is dropping out of the Football League and becoming a semi professional club. Our fortunes have indeed fallen low, but not that low.

Whoever we get / don't get, we must surely believe that we are better than 2 other teams in this division.

The New Manager Thread

I think we can attract a decent manager at this level. Major step towards a new stadium, some money hopefully to spend in January, club that is under-achieving, potential of above average attendances for the league if we can get some decent results going.

MA is a good motivator, but I seem to remember his long ball tactics weren't great to watch.

The New Manager Thread

From betfair apparently. They were emailed to me by a mate so I cannot conclusively say if they are from betfair. Also, I would imagine Allen would be a lot shorter when the big boys start their markets.

I dont think Betfair have next manager markets for Div 1 or 2

The New Manager Thread

Well you're probably better informed that me but I just think that at this moment in time, there would be a sigh of relief if MA were to return as we would certainly turn the corner and avoid non-league oblivion. OK, he might not be here forever, but then what manager is? I just think when all's said and done more people would accept that he'd do a job for us than wouldn't.

The New Manager Thread

So the 'betting' without Allen shows Daish and Newell clearly out in front with Clough and Cotterill heading the chasing pack...

The New Manager Thread

I fully understand the nay-sayers that don't want Allen back. Let's face facts though. We are 19th in the league, lost two games that we should have won, face a trip to an in-form Wrexham on Saturday following by a tough Christmas schedule that could well find us bottom of the league at the turn of the year.

Who do you trust most to get us out of this situation, the Devil you know or the Devil you don't? I would take all of Martin's negative points, his rubbing-up people the wrong way, and whatever else comes our way in return for salvation. Nothing is guaranteed in life (bar the same old death (and taxes for some of you)) but the most likely person to get us out of the sh*t is Allen - that is the beginning and the end.

The only issue is money.

Does the club actually have the resources to finance pay-offs to Butcher and Scott and pay salaries to Allen, Whitbeard and Doyle? Remember that if we employ Doyle it will be goodbye (and another pay off) to our current physio.

I would take Allen and Whitbread in a heartbeat, but Doyle I have many reservations about given the Owusu debarcle and what Hunt has written recently. Martin would be well rid of him but he probably values loyalty above anything else.

The only other issue is length of contract. I believe that if we give him a contract to the end of the season then I am not sure what that might achieve - if a bigger club comes along (unlikely in my opinion) then he could leave and leave us in the sh*te. Maybe we should give him a very, very long contract (say 5 or 6 years) - that way if someone comes in for him we get a really decent pay-off.

Finally, I ask: do you trust any other manager on the list to save us from relegation?

The New Manager Thread

But why would Allen take on an even smaller wage bill than he left behind ?

As he currently does not have a job even though he seams to have been applying for anything available, so i would guess that his CV will be sent in!

Would I trust Martin Allen to stay around long enough to save us from relegation? Now there's a question ...

Surely if nobody has taken a chance on him since Leicester, then nobody will, at least for this season..........

That said his 'portability' is reason for concern especially if we need results at the end of the season to stay up and a 'better' job comes up.

The New Manager Thread

i can't see why Allen would come back to be honest. our playing budget must be miniscule now compared to the one he over-stretched and then sulked over...

The New Manager Thread

Which month did we appoint Butcher? :fishing:

April, but effectively he didn't start till the off-season, some might say he never really got started.:sorted:

Not sure Allen is going to leave a club and join another to watch from the stands for a handful of games at the end of the season before starting work properly. He conceivably might have watched enough games already this season from the directors box !!

I'm not a big Allen supporter, so don't have a dog in this argument either way. I just know we need someone to stick their size 10 up the players arses and quickly !!!

The New Manager Thread

What is the fascination with Non League managers? We need someone with experience of the Lower Divisions of the Football League. Cotterill, Simpson, Newell would all fit the bill but would they come or is it a case of all we can afford is a Non League nobody who may get lucky. The board will be playing Russian Roulette with our future again.

The New Manager Thread

I'm suprised Neale Cooper is getting more of a look-in on the poll.

Pretty decent record over his career - two promotions (albeit with Ross Co - surely they have a smaller budget than we do !!!!) and two play offs in division 1 with the Pools.

There's only room for one J Harvey on here... and its not Jim!

Left in a bit of a mystery though.....

( I was told why by someone at Gills)

Wasn't it Hartlepool he left under some strange circumstances - ie just as the play offs started.

I thought he left Gillingham because they sucked after most of the first team were sold off from under him.

Not surfaced since though which might be construed as odd.

What did you hear from the Gill Markybee ??

The New Manager Thread

....................noticeable names not in the poll..........Frank Burrows, Ian McParland, Jose Mourinho................even Andy Sinton, who was touted almost as vigourously as Liam Daish last time round..........and talking of ex-Bees, what about Rowan Alexander?...........

I'd have thought there were a bunch of reasons for at least considering a successful non-league manager, including: (1) track record of success; (2) knowledge of players in a "price range" we can afford and particularly part-time players that might be able to step up to League; (3) hunger; (4) experience from learning their trade with minimum resource; (5) different perspective to recycling the dross in FLs 1 & 2.

I don't think anyone's saying it is the answer in itself, but wouldn't you at least consider someone with a consistent record of success a rung or two below us in the ladder, particularly compared to mediocrity above?

If Soccerbase is to be believed, Cotterill, Newell and Simpson's FL teams average about 1.5 points per game; Neale Cooper's a bit higher at nearly 1.6. By comparison - Rosenior 1.3, Butcher 1.2, MA 1.64.

The New Manager Thread

One name not on the list is Gary Waddock. I would've thought that a local manager top of the conference would be a strong contender.

The New Manager Thread

are we able to see who voted for who on the pole (just like in the MOM poll thread)

The New Manager Thread

agreed sir les. also, history shows that the majority of our best signings over the past three decades have come from the conference or old southern league as was.

we all know ma for what he is: a good man manager, a fans' favourite, and, just about, a griffin park god.

but also, a modest coach at best. and a very ambitious young man who will engineer a move away from us once he gets his career back on track contract or no contract. ask mkd.

if we are prepared to accept that, then he has much going for him.

maybe just on a stop-gap contract 'til the end of the season with a big bonus for keeping us up. simply make use of each other then think about things in the spring?

but if he rejoins on a contract we must be aware that if a sniff of a bigger and better paid job comes along, with a larger budget to work with, he will be on the 65 bus in a flash. he didn't like our budget last time!

PS : a hunch: ince moves to much bigger and better things and ma rejoins mkd?
