Another Manager Poll
Horses for courses. Regardless of who becomes manager, I reckon there is a huge luck element involved. A manager might be a world beater at one club and look a complete tool at another. Examples: Terry Butcher, Darren Ferguson, and although it's early days to be fair - Gary Johnson. No wins in nine games?
On the other side of the coin, Phil Holder hardly had the track record of Shralex Ferguson when he became the only manager in my lifetime to get us into the second tier. And before anyone utters that old 'Perryman's team' chestnut, neither did he! Nor, come to think of it, did Andy Scott when he dragged us back up from the fourth,
Point is, previous experience and success is, in a way, kind of irrelevant. Gus Poyet, Keith Hill, Neil Warnock, Ian Holloway, Bob Di Matteo - pick whoever you like. Just because they have had great success at their clubs doesn't necessarily mean they won't be a disaster here. On the other hand, there are no doubt rookie managers out there in non-league itching for a chance at the big time who would come in and be sensational and we'd storm the division.
Pot luck if you ask me. It either clicks or it doesn't and spending £100k or £400k ain't going to change the odds. And that's exactly why I'd give Nicky Forster at least one complete season to see how he does. My hunch is that he'd do rather well actually .
