GPG Technical Issues

Interesting. So mods can spoof login as users?
No, we can only see the user experience and it's only available to admin, not moderators. It's helpful for diagnostics if a user is having issues.

Thanks for clarifying.

A feature got added this morning to inform you of the number of unread posts.

We've yet to decide if useful or not.

For those of you who have 1000s of Unread, you could simply press Mark Forums Read. Personally I do that on a regular basis.

GPG Technical Issues

122,653 unreads. Almost as many as my work email inbox

GPG Technical Issues

What do we all think then - On or Off?

GPG Technical Issues

Read Mark Data Limit currently set to 1 year. We could make that much shorter.

What do I win if i actually read all of my 100k unread?

GPG Technical Issues

I do like a play at times ......

GPG Technical Issues

In the New Posts list clicking the thread title now sometimes goes to the first post in the thread instead of the first unread post. This seems to have changed very recently, it used to go to where I’d left off but now it seems to either go to the first post or to today’s post. Or am I confused?

x2

I can’t work out what it tries to go to, but it appears to have problems where there are photos or videos involved. The twitter thread is the worst

GPG Technical Issues

Thought the "taking you back to the first post in a thread" situation only happened if you hadn't viewed that thread for a certain (long) period of time....

GPG Technical Issues

We implemented a change yesterday that was supposed to fix the horrible jumping around in threads that had embedded media. On first appearance it would appear to have worked but it is interesting that you're reporting issues. I've not seen them. Would one of you allow me to login as you (we can do that - it's all very transparent, I can't see anything I'm not allowed to) and point me to a thread that isn't working well.

The issue reported has been around for a while. If I’m not mistaken it’s actually a feature to do with what counts as a recent post. When this happens to me I just click “first new post” in the top right

@Les Beeavinu you may have changed the variable that decides how recent a recent post is when messing about with the abandoned count of new posts feature recently ?

Possibly but anything I did change was reverted. I also rebuilt a user cache so I'm tempted to apologize and ask for all to give it a few days to see if it settles down.

Ah, that makes sense! I tested it with a thread I know I’ve not read for ages and it started me back at the beginning again…

…and so I heeded this advice and was taken forward in time to where I’d left off (probably).

Clicking on a another thread which I’ve read more recently I was taken straight to the first unread.

From this it seems to be working as designed, so please file my report as a PEBKAC error and stand the team down.

Not a technical issue but I was just replying to a comment where someone @ me and noticed for the first time next to my username I had user 496 - am I therefore correct assuming I was the 496th fan to sign up to GPG?

No. It's how many people have blocked you. ?

Not for certain, no.

Except for very low numbers (those less than about 200) it is in order of joining however.

In theory, maybe. But the database was corrupted at some point and this kind of information is not accurate or reliable.

For the last few days I've been getting 'this page is unresponsive' whilst anywhere on GPG. Other sites fine. Any ideas why?

No idea. Can only assume that you have a local issue unless anyone else is experiencing the same. Log out, clear cache etc.

Always been there but I've enabled it be default. You can turn it off or change the timer if necessary.
Its great, thanks. The page refreshing was just catching my eye as I had it open on a different screen.

Might turn it off for a while when the Brennan Johnson thread reaches the top though (y)
