Surely he will have to undergo a medical before joining as did Nusa, I imagine if it is a bad injury we won't be paying the full price or we won't see him at all.
I’m sure he’s had one already having actually signed

wow, that's a dangerous way to do business unless the bees have insured the potential of a career ending injury whilst playing for his current club, I am not saying the injury is career ending but relying on a six month old medical seems more than risky.

Igor Thiago

That table is wrong mate. They're equal on points with Anderlecht and have a better goal difference but the table is calculated on points first, then number of wins, then goal difference and after that goals scored, away goals and away wins. So Club Brugge are currently second behind Anderlecht as they've won 22 games to Club Brugge's 20. Makes Sundays game absolutely massive.

Igor Thiago

TBH I now have no interest in how Club Brugge finish their season. The sole priority is Thiago’s health and fitness and whether he will be available to play for us next season as we all hope and wish for.
It's only been referenced in the context of "why was he crying so much?"

Nonsense. Anything can happen. Benham and Giles, more than anyone, understand that you have to take calculated risks - we jumped in here while others were snoozing, and this is how it goes. Noone could possibly expect him to be wrapped in cotton wool until he is delivered to us.

Igor Thiago

Wow. I've just seen this and thought I was still asleep.

Shirt over the head and tears on the bench is never a good sign!

Igor Thiago

Not watching but Please God, no professional football team is going to make a player they suspect may have an ACL injury sit on the bench for most of the game ?
Although, given he’s no longer an ‘asset’ of theirs, maybe they’re slightly more relaxed about it?

Exactly anything can happen, I am not saying that he should be wrwpped in cotton wool but not having a get out clause if a player is badly injured is madness, why did we not take the chance on Nusa if that is your argument he has played many games for Bruges since we rejected him.

I'd be amazed if there isn't conditions on what player turns up on July 1st and having to satisfy medical requirements. What if he had a career threatening injury and couldn't play again?

What if he didn't?

What if the players we have out on loan "had a career threatening injury and couldn't play again?"
What if the players we don't have out on loan "had a career threatening injury and couldn't play again?"
What if the players we have making their dinner "had a career threatening injury and couldn't play again?"
What if the players we have crossing the road "had a career threatening injury and couldn't play again?"

It's life

if it's a £30 million player I would insure them, to protect my investment, would'nt you?

Pretty sure all of our contracted players are insured. And when he signed that contract he became one of our players so no doubt he's insured. but what I guarantee is that we don't have a return damaged option. We bought him. He's ours. And he'll recover from whatever injury he has. You can't go through life worrying about what if.

I thought we didn't do that kind of player insurance or has the thought process changed since the stakes got much higher?

Does anyone else get fed up with all the negativity on GPG sometimes? These really are fantastic times that I never thought I would ever see in my lifetime. Just enjoy them. COYB.
This thread seems to attract an awful lot of the doom mongers for some strange reason mate. Weirdo's the lot of em.

Igor Thiago

What if the insurance cost £100m?
you like to use the "what if's" insurance that costs more than investment is not feasable but to stop the need for it the contact normally would need a guarentee that the product/player is in a condition to do the job the payment is for.

Without being able to see the contaract we are all guessing.

That actually reads like some of the clauses on my house insurance. Liek me house insurance I don't understand it

Igor Thiago

I think we shoud remember ManU and Van Nilsterroy. They had to wait a year to see him after signing and he was worth that wait with an incredable scoring record

?‍♂️ presumably those who know much more and had a much closer look at both situations concluded that Nusa's underlying issues were more troublesome

I agree, my point was I am surprised that we have to be worried about the injury as I thought we would have a clause in the contract regarding fitness at time of transfer, but without seeing the contract I can understand the possible upset on here.

Exactly no one really knows as they don't know what contract has be signed and whats in it. It's all opinions. Unfortunately you will always get a few ruffled feathers on here if you have a different opinion.

Igor Thiago

Whilst I haven't a clue how contracts signed well in advance are formulated, I can't imagine that Brentford didn't have some safety clause in event that the player suffered a serious, or career threatening injury. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems common sense to me. Anyway, all speculation as no one knows the extent of the injury.

Igor Thiago

Wouldn't it be better to wait to hear about what the injury actually is before going into the minutiae? I just read on Facebook someone speculate he was out for a year ffs.
I agree with you. I think a lot of what people are putting woe on the site due to the unbelievable number of bad injuries we have sustained this season. Lets just all just calm down.

Don't be silly... the resident GPG/X/FB orthopaedic specialists have diagnosed and prognosed.
Worse @JaydmHarris at The Athletic then repeats it on X with the tagline "More detail on @TheAthleticFC".
Or maybe not....

Right - people are speculating wildly, when we don't really know. And some of that speculation isn't really helpful or welcome. It's very understandable, isn't it?

Igor Thiago

we'll find out pretty quick as he's having a scan today and they are making a decision as to whether he will play the last 2 games. You'd like to think they will now stick him in the cooler for us.

Would seem sensible as some on here have already decided that he is totally useless and on that basis I don't see how he will help them over the next two games ;)

Quite the opposite really

I am a generally over positive person, I come onto the GPG to bring me back to reality!

Igor Thiago

This episode with Thiago is turning into one of the most Brentford things ever. Our record signing gets injured after colliding with his team mate Nusa who happens to be the guy we turned down at the 11th hour before the surprise signing of Thiago. I guess this is why we love our club...

Igor Thiago

“The Brazilian forward will undergo further investigations in the coming days, but he is not expected to return to the selection this season.”

Could’ve been a lot worse

Igor Thiago

My very basic research indicates about 4-6 weeks out, although would be curious to hear from those who know more about this sort of injury!

Igor Thiago

Doesn't tell us much (except that it's not the year-long ACL)

Depends on the grade of the injury from here. Fingers crossed he can get a standard preseason in.
