Because he was a great Number 2 to Ancelotti ???

And that's it in a nut shell.

He's a great number two when he's working with a great manager/coach, but not much cop on his own.

Not really done anything as a manager.
How does he keep getting work?
.............how do Pardew,Hughes,Bruce,Alladyce keep getting work????.............

That’s the trouble being part of the touring circus. The clowns are always in demand.

I don't think Hughes is that bad to be fair. And Allardyce's record prior to Everton is decent. Steve Bruce has a reasonable record as well, a lot of clubs could do a lot worse.

Pardew...pass.

It's like the likes of Steve Cotterill that amaze me....that bloke clearly doesn't know his arse from his elbow. Phil Brown is another one...

Agree with most of the above. Even Cotterill and Brown have credentials actually. About time though, that clubs got braver and more imaginative. For the good of our game, would somebody in the top two divisions please take a chance on a bright young English/British prospect, for heaven's sake.

Point is we don't know until chairmen have the insight/foresight to take a chance on someone. For example, I thought 7 or 8 years ago that Danny Murphy fitted the bill as an intelligent midfielder who spoke insightfully and eloquently about the game. I even thought at the time that Fulham might take a punt on him as successor to the Roy. Didn't happen, but this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Fair enough, young managers should really expect to have to serve their time in the lower divisions first. These days, however, there is little prospect of promotion beyond that level for the indigenous coach. What would have happened to Cloughie post Hartlepool if he had been entering the managerial arena today?

Is he off somewhere else?

We’ll probably find out soon enough. I think it more likely a Chairman/Board panicking at seeing the season going pear-shaped, right at the last knockings. March, going into April can still be deadly for Managers when their teams lose form. Scunthorpe are winless in quite a few, & just hanging on to the playoffs courtesy of others playing worse. A shame really, my outsider’s impression is of him doing a good job over several seasons without getting over the final hurdle.

Mick McCarthy to step down as Ipswich manager at the end of the season. Another one for Warbs to go for!

Think Richard Osman gets it more or less correct

"One of these days a club is going to appoint a female manager. They’ll work out they could employ the smartest female manager in the world - the female Pep or Fergie - rather than some guy who accidentally took Hull up 5 years ago."

Agree Nana, but in this day and age with the prize and money at stake, which owner or board will be brave enough to take a risk in a female with no track record at any level in the game?
It’s a catch 22 but I’d like to see lower level teams having the foresight and initiative to employ a female with sports management on their CV.

Still got his punditary work, although how someone who has failed as a manager at numerous clubs can tell us where other clubs are going wrong is a joke.

Natalie to WBA? Is this why she engineered an exit at Sky?

Though knowing English football, they'd probably prefer this one:
