Managerial Thread 2016 / 2017
Good question. So what if they went down?
But if they don't need to go down i.e. if a new manager can keep them up (stress both "ifs"), why shouldn't they try to avoid it?
Remember, too, that had Ranieri done OK this season, then got offered a job by a bigger club than Leicester on the strength of his title last season, then he'd have been off like a shot.
As it is, he's trousering a reported £3m pay-off, so that should surely soften the blow a tad.
Many have gone down and come back up again soon after, but many more haven't eg Ipswich, Forest, Leeds etc. And you can't say they weren't "bothered" - at least if the number of times relegated clubs sack their manager is anything to go by.They've gone down before and recovered like many others have....never seemed to bother the likes of Hull Sunderland or Newcastle ....had they stuck with him and gone down it needn't have been terminal.
