Isn't it quite normal to be suspended from your job if you spout off on social media and bring the company into disrepute?
That argument doesn't stand in this situation when you take into consideration all the other BBC employees who have also spouted on Social Media and nothing has been made of it.

Don’t know is it? When it’s not about the company?
When you’re freelance?
Once again this isn’t about political views, it’s about freedom to speak your mind when your opinion has sod all to do with your employer and doesn’t in any way bring them into disrepute unless they are an arm of the government which by their charter they most definitely are not.

A pitiful, laughable situation. Can't see the show going ahead tomorrow.

One wonders! Surely someone must have had the sense to see where this would lead

Write a script for Match of the Day where Gary Lineker has been banned from hosting it by the BBC due to some tweets about refugees and no other presenters show up in a show of support for him

[Opening music plays as the camera shows the Match of the Day studio, empty of presenters]

Voiceover: "Good evening and welcome to Match of the Day. Unfortunately, due to recent events, Gary Lineker has been banned from hosting the show by the BBC."

Voiceover: "It seems that Gary's tweets about refugees did not meet the BBC's high standards of impartiality and professionalism. As a result, they have decided to take action."

Voiceover: "In a bizarre twist, it seems that none of our regular presenters are willing to step in and host the show in Gary's absence."

Voiceover: "But fear not, dear viewers, for we have a special treat in store for you tonight. In honor of Gary's ban, we will be dedicating the entire show to celebrating the wonderful contributions made by refugees to the world of football."

[Cut to footage of famous refugee footballers]

Voiceover: "From the legendary striker Didier Drogba to the skillful winger Mohamed Salah, we will be showcasing some of the most inspiring and uplifting stories of refugees who have made their mark on the beautiful game."

[Cut back to the empty studio]

Voiceover: "So sit back, relax, and enjoy this very special edition of Match of the Day. Who knows, maybe after watching tonight's show, even the BBC will start to see refugees in a more positive light."

[Closing music plays as the camera shows the empty studio once again]

On my unlikely scale that is a 10000000

Brilliant ?

The BBC have been looking for the politically expedient chance to appear to be on the opposite side to conventional liberal views, especially under the latest Director General. This has provided them with the chance to do so. Lineker's status as a freelance has been contested by HMRC who maintain that he does not fulfill sufficient criteria and is "de facto" an employee therefore owing several million in tax. They are looking to get shot of him, and has happened with other high earners, and he gave them the chance.

Why haven't they done the same with Alan Sugar?

It’s going to be fascinating to see who’s prepared to sit in the three seats if Gaz and Al are AWOL… at least the Beeb are providing some entertainment at last

And presumably along with him their flagship sports programme and football coverage in general. No self respecting pundits or commentators will touch this with a ten yard pole !

Hopefully matches on 2morr, I can see a situation where players will strike if MOTD camera men pitch up at grounds !!!

MotD

In the event that the commentators booked for tomorrow join in, what would happen then , is it silent movie time?

The thing is he has looked after refugees. How about the big money top brass at the BBC. Lineker has put his money where his mouth is. At least he has principles unlike the BBC boot lickers. The big bosses looking for a peerage of some description ?

It might need him saying something like “ let’s not kill motd over my comments, it needs to carry on & let’s not crucify who stands in”
Might work?

....indeed....both parties probably furiously scripting a statement right now....which of course would have to get the approval of a third party.

MotD

Announced it will go ahead without presenters or pundits, busy just show highlights. Suppose next step will be commentators dropping out?

MotD

Going well this for the BEEB!
Utter shambles and I'm loving it. The organisation has been a joke for years. And now showing their how disastrous they truly are.

Will be a rather odd show tomorrow and considering highlights can be found on Sky sports immediately after a game. I suspect a next to nothing viewing numbers.
