New Manager Poll

Salford, after your very noticeable "about turn" in less than 24 hours is anyone listening? :fishing:

Leroy had my support until Doncaster (FA Cup) - Gone the following Saturday
Fitz had my support until Cheltenham - Gone the Tuesday after
Butcher had my support until Peterborough - Gone a couple of weeks after
Scott had my support until Dagenham - Gone two days after

I support the manager until there is no hope of them turning it around and we produce a "capital crime" performance.

New Manager Poll

A man who 3 times failed to pick out a half decent final ball when put in a good position? I know it wasn't a great performance but how do you think he stood out Salford?

The only positive moment, aside from the goal, I can remember was seeing Grabban hare after what looked like a lost cause and get the ball in the box.

and it didn't even beat the first man

Grabban was poor, IMO, Bignall did more and showed more spirit than any of the others, and it isn't even his best position!

New Manager Poll

The slump started in March 2006 (as Guildford Bee says at Swansea) and ended in December 2007. LLLWDDDDWDDDL. That's two wins in 13. I'd call that a slump.

Looking outside his record with BFC in the League and ignoring Leicester (where he wasn't given enough time). MK Dons had the largest budget in League Two and didn't go up. He was garbage at Cheltenham. He signed about 50 players in 18 months IIRC and took them down and looked as if they could go down again.

I don't give a rats what MA's record has been since Brentford, it's irrelevant.

Look at his record with us, he didn't get us up, so what one Manager has in my lifetime, but he didn't leave us in a mess as you suggest. He gave us two and a half fantastic seasons when we either staying up,in the mix for promotion and enjoying the best days out in the cup ever. It was never boring being a bees fan and the nailbiting didn't stop until the last game of each season, B'Muff, Sheff Weds and Swansea. Don't blame Martin Allen for the failings of managers since, he didn't lose the club money through poor signings on long term deals, he made us loads by acquiring the likes of DJ, SAM S, and Turner for peanuts with huge ROI.

New Manager Poll

What about a young up and coming manager? Someone well thought of in professional circles, whose team has progressed each season under his managership. Still learning the trade and due to inexperience has made some mistakes but has learnt each time from them and come back stronger each time. A manager who is passionate, driven, doesn't suffer fools and not afraid to make changes to playing personnel if it will make the side more successful. The only black mark on his CV is a month of poor results which led to a knee jerk sacking before he was given time to turn it around.

Blimey, we have a soothsayer amongst us, as soon as the downward spiral becomes a kamikazi nosedive into the relegation zone you forecast times up.........positively Uri geller like!

Suggest you PM abee and let him know you're available for consultations as soon as the next managers starts a run of defeats.

New Manager Poll

His changes to personnel didn't resuilt in any success.
It may have been a month of poor results but the performances have been poor for longer. Scott lost my backing at the Orient away game.

About the same time for me I'm afraid, but I had a moment when I thought it might be retrievable when he started playing Sam Saunders again

The two relevant stats:

Woodman 2 goals, 4 assists.
Dickson 3 goals, 6 assists. (League One 2 goals, 3 assists)

Dickson played double the amount of games for the club than Woodman.

But isn't there main job to defend, surely you should judge them on that, its a bonus if they can get forward as well. Don't mind either of them.

:imwith: Very well put Sir.

I am still astonished that some fans still harbour resentment against MA and regard him a "loser". He gave the Club a lift and profile like never before and whilst we didnt always play pretty football it was mighty effective and you just loved having him at the helm.

I can only liken it to an employe who is straight up with you about his ambitions from early on, gives you a brilliant 2 year "shift" (got to put in footie terminology), he increases your customer base, customer satisfaction, all done on not the biggest wage, he didn't quite reach his final sales target but was still majorly in credit, then he does have a better offer...and he goes.

Are you grateful for the good he brought your Company or do you bitch about the mere mention of his name for ever and a day?

The slump started under MA (2 wins in 13), continued under LR, SF and TB.

Other managers have their record under the microscope on this thread, so should his. Allen's record is not a patch on Johnson's.

Neither do I. My original point was Woodman wasn't the waste of money as the poster above had suggested and it looks as if the majority are in agreement on that.

The point being made about Martin Allen and is tenure at BFC wsa that it was as much about the feel of the place, the atmosphere on match days, the increased press coverage that we enjoyed etc etc, as it was about winning games and stats. Whilst I dont particularly wish a return for other reasons, his time at the club was unrivalled imo for all sorts of reasons. You cannot take that away from the man.

New Manager Poll

Salford,

I don't agree with your views although i believe Woodman is a very good player if very different to Dickson who was also excellent.

However I am astonished by your assertion that you will not go to GP again if a certain manager is appointed. I was not a Scott devotee as is well known & was unhappy that he was appointed - he was part of the problem - but really wished him well as an ex-Bees player & wanted him to succeed. I don't like the thought of Wise either, but, one thing I guarantee, I am a Brentford supporter & want the next manager to succeed, whoever he may be, & it won't stop me gonig to GP.

It also won't be to boo the players or management - the only person associated with BFC I have ever done that to is W£bb on his return with Southend & would do that again. As I would to Noades.

New Manager Poll

I've said it before, I'll say it again - I want David Howells from Harrow Borough...

Interesting shout. Is that the ex-Spurs player?

New Manager Poll

No, Harrow Borough Manager's name is David Howell Ex Spurs player is David Howells

Re. Woodman. Both are very good players. I haven't missed Dickson and I think it's down to how Woodman has played. Certainly not the waste of money as garywrig9 said he was on page six.

How do you find the views of some who won't go if a certain manager isn't appointed? I want the club to succeed, whoever is in charge, but I most certainly do not want that certain manager anywhere near our club.

New Manager Poll

I dont see managers quing at the door to sign Woodman, whereas Pardew, Grayson were after dickson's signiture, AS paid too much for Woodman

New Manager Poll

Megson/sheff wed.Johnson/bees

Megson looks like getting sheff wed job, lets get Gary johnson before someone else does

New Manager Poll

We need a safe pair of hands, first and foremost to get us out of this mess and them hopefully put us in a position to challenge for promotion next season.
Wise would not appear to fit this specification. I believe that in his first season at Leeds despite having most of the season to turn things around he failed to stop them being relegated. Martin Allen would be great for the ride but he does come with something of a risk. I cannot see the point in trying to recruit anyone currently in a job, it takes too long, means forking out money in compensation that would be put to better use in the transfer market come close season, and anyway why sod up some other team when there are other options.
To my mind Johnson would seem to fit the bill, he's experienced, immediately available, sucessful at this level and in the championship and hadn't been doing too badly at Posh.

New Manager Poll

Salford,

As you may have noticed, I will support the club - although I do agree that Webb or Noades might make me change my mind.

You seem to have a pathological dislike for MA - his 'crimes' would have to be on a level with those two (if they came back) for me to not attend. You obviously did not enjoy his time here & you are obviously difficult to please - except where AS is concerned.

I have said before that AS's style of football & the lack of real development of the squad were my major criticism of his, although I did dislike the way he criticised his players and others whenever he was under pressure.

Whoever takes over now will have a very difficult job due to the composition of the squad & length of contracts etc - that will be down to AS. Leroy had that same problem due to the board not the previous manager. Btw Leroy was a 'success' according to the standards of a number of posters - he got Torquay promoted.

According to others I'm easily pleased but hey ho. You have your views which I respect.

I've never said AS was the messiah and if you read back I have criticised him (Orient, Tranmere last year) but wanted to give him as much of a chance to succeed as possible. I wanted him to succeed because the club would also succeed, something others didn't seem to want. I don't care too much about the style of football, I care about results (I'd rather win 1-0 MK style than lose 4-3).

Leroy did experience success with Torquay and I believe with the squad we had at the time he'd have taken us up at the start of the slump.

"THERES ONLY ONE MARTIN ALLEN!!!" will be ringing round the ground (ealing road) tomorrow. will Benham will give the socalled FANS what they want. :kingkev:

New Manager Poll

There is no doubt in my opinion that the days of Martin Allen will never be fogotten. The GREAT ESCAPE TO START WITH!!!!.
However, I would go for the experience of Gary Johson to lead BFC towards greater heights. If he declines then lets join the ride with MA.

New Manager Poll

We need to stop dwelling in the past as to who did what to whom and be concerned about whats gonig on now. Most people who have been associated with the club over the years have done their best including Scott, Allen and Leroy. There's only 3 people I wouldn't cross the road to P*** on if they were on fire and thats Webb, Noades and the late Mr Dunnett. The recent managers and board members could qualify for sainthood up against those three.
Whoever the board now choose we should get behind as they and the team will need every bit of support to avoid the drop.

New Manager Poll

£150,000 too much (if thats what he paid), but whatever it was it was too much

New Manager Poll

Time will tell, see if the New manager has him in a promotion chasing side, as i doubt it very much

He has been very good all season and will hopefully here for many more seasons to come. Good player.

New Manager Poll

Woodman for me has been one of the most consistant performers all season a real steady eddy and has a good eye for a decent pass. Against Charlton JPT he constantly put quality balls into the box but sadly no one got on the end of them.

Also, woodman didn't cost anything, now grow up 'beeian'

I don't get this Gary Johnson fever . He gets talked up in the media but from what I can tell, his achievement over the last twenty years is two promotions with Yeovil. Oh, and he made Bristol City play quite well. And that's about it. Nothing wrong with those achievements but they hardly make him Shankly so why the hype? If he gets the job then fair enough, I'd get behind him but I can see no reason to believe he would take us to the next level, where as I genuinely believe that Martin Allen would A) keep us up this season, B) put us in with a great shout next season and at least go very close, but if no cigar then C) stand a great chance of getting us to the Championship the season after. I can't think of anyone I'd have anywhere near as much confidence in. Martin Allen for me is so obvious .

New Manager Poll

Megson looks like getting Wednesday job ( that should go down well) so I guess that eases the path for Johnson if the Board want him. Did he not get Bristol promoted to the Championship?

I am not that bothered who gets it as long as they get us winning again but do feel that appointing MA would be going backwards.

To be fair he turned Bristol City from League 1 under-achievers to Championship play-off finalists in 2 and a half seasons. He would be a good appointment in my humble opinion. Getting MA back would be one hell of a ride. I'd be delighted with either.

New Manager Poll

MA didnt get one promotion ? Johnson has two and experience in the Championship .Again MA doesnt have experience above league one . I think Johnson is the ideal man to steady the ship as theres still time and make a play for automatic promo next season . If there were four games to go and we needed 9 points to avoid relegation I may of chosen MA as a fire fighter ,but we are not in the deep doodoos just yet /

Nicky Forsters Red and White Army !

Well i don't rule out martin allen, cos he is better thamn the rest of them. and Gary johnson is overated. if we get him i will see you all when he is fired. cos if he is the best we can do **** off Bfc I'm finished with you. If allen does not get the gig, then thats the end for me, and thats a promise.

Been nice knowing you...

I'm not sure that the future with MA could ever scale the heights of his previous term. There's a bit if me that wants him to remain a legend and worries that it if it went wrong I'd not hold in the high regard I do now.

Having said that carpe diem wouldn't it be f*cling brilliant to have him walking out as Manager again, can you imagine how mental 3 stands would go - I'm talking myself round as I type. If we can't get Coppell back, bring back MA

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking him, I just think he's over hyped. Bristol City is a big club. I would say that the second tier is their natural habitat and returning them to it is, I reckon, about par with Andy Scott returning us to ours . I'd probably say that out of the suggestions so far he'd be my second choice. But Brentford is a bit unique and takes a bit of understanding. A look at Terry Butcher's record elsewhere suggests that he isn't a bad manager. He just didn't understand Brentford. Martin understands :sorted:.

Plenty of pressure getting BCFC back up, others failed, he didn't. I will only be happy with MA or GJ
