Short memories some people I can think of a few and Paul Smith was a class act just a few short years ago!!

I have a bloody long memory when it comes to BFC and to call Smith a class act is ridiculous. Just because Southampton were daft enough to pay over the odds for him doesn't mean he was anything other than average. Oli Gottskallson was a better keeper than Smith who probably rates equal with the likes of Bond and Benstead but better than Parks (not difficult) and Dearden.

Have to disagree with you there, I would call him a class act at the time he left us and on par with anybody else we have had between the sticks for several decades.

Also, for a run of games at Southampton he showed he was the business. I remember Schmeichel doing an analysis of one game, and claiming Smith was the best keeper in the world. Ever.

I've always believed Nelson to be a very decent keeper for this level. His kicking let him down on occasions but he saved us in numerous games. With whats lined up we'd have been very lucky to keep him or Abbey.

To be honest couldn't give a flying fig about his "antics" and never quite sure why some got wound up by it. You could never accuse him of not trying like some others.

Sort of get the feeling he was let go because of his lack of popularity (by some) which is a bit of a shame really. Still those that disliked him got their way in the end so they must be happy.

Nelson was interviewed on BBC Radio London tonight. He said he had always been treated fairly be the fans at Brentford and enjoyed his time at the club (and sounded genuine about it too). Said he had rejected a couple of other offers, including one to be a no. 2 keeper in the Championship. I assume he was referring to Leicester...

Think it's unlikely.

IMHO Orient will be in the relegation places next year unless they find the money to sign 5 or 6 new players who are better than they currently have.

Nothing against the guy, he always tried for us, and he's an adequate League One keeper. I'd give Abbey a slight edge over him on the basis of last season, but there's not much between them

Goalkepers are often "big personalities" or *****, maybe it has something to do with them having to take so much abuse.

Nelson was an ok 'keeper at League One and as Bee H has stated, his record for keeping clean sheets and decent goals against tallies should be the priority for judging him. The priority shouldnt be based on the car he drives

Can't say he was my most favourite of Bees keepers, but he was an average League 1 keeper and it will be interesting to see if his replacement will be considered better. So far the names touted about don't suggest that we will be getting an improvement.

Agreed. We bemoan the lack of characters in the modern game, then get the hump with those who do try and be. Come on, admit it, when we were winning every week his antics could be great fun. It was only when we started losing every week we thought he was an idiot. Nellie, likes Framps and O'Connor, were heroes 12 months ago, and would have remained so if they left last summer, but were all tainted by the living hell that was last season. Good luck Stu.

The people who moan about Nelson's kicking... I seem to remember Abbey putting a lot more out than Nelson the season just gone, and Nelson's throws were the best I've seen from a League goalkeeper... just watch them!

Also, Abbey drives a bigger, more expensive middle class ***** of a 4x4, a shiny BMW

You'll begin to miss Nelson's qualities when we get a sub-standard keeper from the Scottish league who's a ***** and has no personality, rather than a ***** with a personality

With the exception of O'conner who isn't a bad lad but just lacked bottle and leadership, the other two are prize pricks with Nelson topping the position.
